Michelle Obama Declines Opportunity to Discuss Wright

ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Back on the campaign trail, Barack Obama reitereated his disappointment in the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, defending his denoucement of his former pastor in a press conference on Tuesday.

"Frankly, what he said over the last few days and in some of the sermons that have been excerpted were unacceptable and weren't things that we believed in or cared about or cared to believe in," Sen. Obama, D-Ill., said in response to a voter's question at a campaign event in Indianapolis, Ind., "I've made a statement (on Tuesday) that was hard to make but it was I believed."

The questioner had asked about "turning his back on someone who had been a good friend" but Obama, with his wife Michelle by his side, did not take issue with the tone.

"I mean, it is true that part of the job when you're running for president is that anybody who is tangentially, you know, even remotely associated with you is somehow fair game and that's unfortunate because most of us in our lives –- we meet people, we know people, some people we work with or we sit on a board with -- we don't really go vet them and find out all the terrible things they might have done because, you know, we don't know or what they said to see if it's politically correct," Obama continued.

Obama changed the subject rather quickly to talking about how he and Michelle came from modest backgrounds, but when wrapping up, the candidate looked at his wife seated on a picnic table next to him and asked, "So Michelle, do you have anything to add to that?"

Mrs. Obama shook her head indicating no.

"You do but," the Senator said, trailing off, leaving the incomplete thought in the air before adding, "Remember there are a lot of reporters around though."

It's happening, people...

Fox News has her up 3 nationally today. Gallup has her up 1 nationally.

Remember, those supers can change at any time.

Hey Ron, many of those supers are already committed, the campaigns trickle them out when they desire, these committments were made long ago.

So you want to move past this unpleasantness huh? I bet you do. I am highly critical of Senator Obama for this long term relationship and that does not make me a racist. I know many Obama voters thinks it does or they dismiss me with, "you're not voting for him anyway". Which is another way to say I am a racist bigot.

Well here is a news flash. Senator Obama wants to be my president too. Get it? He wants to represent me. Even though I am am a "typical white person". DO YOU GET IT?!

I suppose that as a supportor of his it makes perfect sense that everyone would just pass this by since he is so brilliant, right? He doesn't want to be just your president. He wants to be mine too. If he wants that, then he needs to prove he loves what I hold dear and at least have some appreciation for those who look different that him.

A reader in georgia: ...and you would know this because.....

Posted by: ron | Apr 30, 2008 4:53:33 PM

Jon: he doesn't need your support...he won't be begging for your vote...he can win without you!

Posted by: ron | Apr 30, 2008 4:55:33 PM

What does Jeremiah Wright have to say about Obama throwing him under the bus?
After all, Obama claimed that he could no more disown Jeremiah Wright than he could the black community and his own grandmother. Obama would probably throw his wife under the bus if he thought she was keeping him from the Democratic nominimation.

Nobody would care what the Amazon Michelle had to say anyway. She's as hateful as Wright.

Obama will never win in the G.E. without the 33% of Hillary supporters and countless independents that WILL vote for McCain if Obama is the nominee. Get use to it, ron. Obama will NEVER be president.

After the way the press has gone after them the last couple of weeks and even this story shows the taste for blood these "reporters" are looking to find I do not blame either of them. No one in their right mind would. Sunlun or whatever her name is needs to get a grip and figure out she isn't near as important as she seems to think she is. I just picture her taking a dump and then her opinion matters not at all LOL

Hey Ron,

You're probably right he doesn't need or want my vote. The fact that he won't be getting it doesn't bother you either much, apparently.

In the general you will see how important guys like me are. It will be too late then though.

Wow, that was awkward.

Obama asks his wife if she has anything to say, and she declines, and Obama trails off with "yeah, there's a lot of reporters here..." Huh????

I don't know what we are to make of this except that Michelle is even more upset than Barrack and she wouldn't be as nice about it??

Who knows, that was a very weird exchange at the end of the press conference.

@ tom:

At least I have an imagination, and I don't need to drink gallons of Kool Aid to imagine Hillary as president. You, on the other hand, have a race-baiting, elitist, incompetent, narcissist to bank your hope on.

I'd much rather be the kid with imagination than the guy who has nothing when the Kool Aid runs out.

Emily: "It's okay, she just has an active imagination. In fact I think you'll like some of her stories."

Bye bye Jon.

The Honorable Jeannie Dahl has spoken!
Now we must listen! LOL!!

Guess he was talking about Ayres here sitting on a board with him and working for Ayers for 8 years and still not knowing what Ayers did when he was young.

It is really strange Obama mixes with all these radical people and never knew anything about them, never read, never heard gossip nothing, Obama must of been in a bubble all these years.

She is rather big if you didn't notice. Reminds me of that show with the 20 ft tall women. Oh I shouldn't be picking on Ms. Patriot of the year now should I?

Anybody still have the tape when he gave the speech six weeks ago after the 1st Mr Wright controversial happened?
He said he can't disown and denounce his pastor.
What the different now?
The pastor's speech still the same and he is still the same person.
It's only political issue.
Don't believe them, they were acting.

Michelle finally gets it Obama is a fool, the poor woman must be so embarrassed by his actions she cannot speak.

She has nothing to say Obama plain and simple she is not throwing Wright under the bus, not for you or anyone else.

Laura and Marky: Talking to a a Clinton supporter is like talking to a brick wall. They just don't get it.
