Obama Pushes New Populist Message to NC Voters

April 28, 2008 3:28 PM

ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Senator Obama, struggling after repeated losses to white, blue collar workers, was singing a different tune today during a town hall in Wilmington, North Carolina, adding lines to his stump speech to make him more appealing to the demographic he has struggled to win over.

Obama's new populist message started with a direct appeal to the people, saying that in this race he is not against running against Hillary Clinton, but rather running against the very things that have made people's lives hard.

Watch the VIDEO HERE.

"I didn't get in this race, to run against Sen. Clinton. I ran to run against unemployment. I ran to run against lack of educational opportunity. I ran to run against lack of health care, and substandard housing and a war that we should not have been fought. That's why I'm running," Obama said and then repeated again, "I'm not running against Sen. Clinton."

Obama said he has gotten wrapped up in negative campaigning recently, which has distracted him from his reason for running, and said he spoke with his campaign team about changing the focus.

"I noticed over the last several weeks, I told this to my team, you know we are starting to sound like other folks - starting to run the same negative stuff. And it shows you  that none of us are immune from this kind of politics. But the problem is that it doesn't help you.  Having politicians bickering back and forth doesn't help you. Having them worry about superdelegates doesn't help you."

Again, Obama repeated his new focus, not the other candidates, but he says, the American people.

"This election is not about me. It's not about Sen. Clinton. It's not about John McCain. It's about you. It's about your struggles, your hopes, your dreams."

When wrapping up his slightly refigured stump speech, Obama delved deeper into his past than he has before within a stump speech, and criticized those who have publicly questioned if his past has been properly vetted.

He told the story of his grandparents working though the Great Depression, and his mother who was a single mom after his father left when he was two.

Taking heat on the issue of elitism, Obama reminded people that, although he had attended Columbia and Harvard, his family, like them, were still struggling to pay bills, "When my mom came of age, there were student loan programs that she could access so even if she was raising her kids she could go to school and there were scholarships so that she could send her son and her daughter to some of the finest schools in the world, even though there were times when she was on food stamps."

Obama's argument continued saying that his past struggles drove him to run, "When people ask me about why I'm doing this, what my values are, I try to explain to them it's about that history in my own family - how I've seen this country open up opportunity for people who are willing to work hard."

oh please, why doesn't hillary clinton just go away, far far away! ...Oh yeah thats right she wants to destroy the party for her own selfish gain!

I HOPE that this is a sign of a return to greater things than what this race has degenerated into. I have been so deeply disappointed in the messages coming from all camps and the press. The cheapness of the debate is understandable, but it is not worthy of voters and America. I hope that all parties involved will begin to live up to the trust that we have placed in them as our leadership (and also the press - we look to you for leadership as well)

As for the super delegates. There were 50 super delegates that wanted to shove for Obama before texas and Ohio, but couldnt when Clinton won.

So instead of going against the will of the voters, Obama has 'bled' them out slowly, like nobody notices.

If they were truley undecided, they certainly wouldnt be endorsing Obama right now. Nothing would justify it.

Posted by: tomdavie | Apr 28, 2008 3:44:41 PM

Obama admitted he went negative. Something he

had to do to prove he could attack and stand

his ground.

The only way he loses is if he self destructs.

Ignoring Hillary and attacking McCain, something

he is doing alot more now is the way to proceed.

Get used to saying it Hill Shrills

President Barack Obama

Obamas 'uniter' speech doesnt have much effect anymore outside the liberal left wing.

Rev Wright and his own gaffes have taken care of that.

And radical idiot endorsements that paint him as a left wing radical keep pouring in every day.

I have no idea what Obama has really proven in this election besides HYPE.

He is surely NOT the same candidate he was back in february.

He cannot win the general election now.

Posted by: tomdavie | Apr 28, 2008 3:47:02 PM

McCain is toast.

Wait till he gets REALLY VETTED.

2008 style.

Posted by: Dann | Apr 28, 2008 3:47:15 PM

Tomdavie you are entitled to you biased opinion but you are wrong! Obama is a stronger candidate now. Another thing, I would not vote for another lying cheating Clinton if they were the last Democrats on Earth!

Posted by: Erik | Apr 28, 2008 3:51:09 PM

Even after all that we know about Obama and his associations, if DNC nominates him, I will be switching party to vote for McCain.

I would prefer to have someone whom I know rather than vote for Obama.

I do not know how Obama sat in this pastor's church for 20 years.

God save this country.

Posted by: Rick | Apr 28, 2008 3:55:44 PM

Obama WAS raised by his well-to-do white grandparents, Erik.
If you think I'm lying, then do some homework on your candidate. You'll find that his life has been anything but underprivileged. He's been provided with every opportunity possible. With all the benefits he and his wife have received, they still hate America. Obama has NEVER been underprivileged, ever. Currently, he lives in a 1.65 Million dollar home that his nefarious friend Rezko helped him to buy.

Bill Clinton has let the gifted politician title and went to gaffe machine.

Thanks god Sen. Obama is now showing-up and taking over him.

Bravo Sen. keep it up!

I have now permanently lost all
respect and trust for Mr. Obama.

Go Hillary 08 or McCain 08!

Posted by: franklin | Apr 28, 2008 4:03:14 PM

all along Obama and his pastor only care about them and there people, so how can he get a vote of the working class people ? american people will soon wake to these theology speech and cult, please CHANGE both should change your attitude first.

Posted by: CHANGE MAN | Apr 28, 2008 4:05:06 PM

You're right, tomdavie. An Associated Press national poll released today has Hillary beating McCain 50 to 41, whereas Obama merely ties McCain.

GO HILLARY!!

Posted by: Emily | Apr 28, 2008 4:12:05 PM

Nope Tomdavie not convinced at all! I will never be convinced to vote for a candidate that openly lies to the American people. I will never be convinced to vote for a candidate who uses racism and sexism as a means to win. Hillary cares only about herself not the voters. If she did care she and Obama would be working together to build the party not tear it down. Hillary can not win after the Republicans have their way with her. I can guarantee this...Obama supporter will sit back on our couches sipping ice tea as we stay home and watch the doomed Democrats fail with Hillary at the helm.

I saw Obama's new stump speech on CNN. It's pretty good.

Posted by: Stacey | Apr 28, 2008 4:19:35 PM

No candidate has EVER won the general election after losing California, Mass, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsyvannia and Florida in the primaries.

It has NEVER happened in the entire history of the united states .

The winner of the big primaries wins the nomination and the white house.

Add to that the severe problems Obama has with white americans, his wifes chip on her shoulder, his pastor of 20 years, and his own bittergate flaps, and you have a NON ELECTABLE candidate.

Update:

Obama gains a delegate!

Obama loses the PEOPLE in general election.

Be happy for your small victories, they are all you will be celebrating.

Posted by: Jo | Apr 28, 2008 4:29:59 PM

At the moment the polls are showing he cant beat McCain, and if the race as he said is about McCain well I really don't know what all those super delegates are going to do for him, yeah he is getting delegates and losing voters, great I can see how he is winning this race.

Posted by: SJ | Apr 28, 2008 4:32:38 PM

Obama change "change the tone" "change the subject" etc. etc., all he wants.

But it's too late. People have discovered the REAL Obama. You ARE who you associate with. You could get by with one radical in your closet, but Obama has TOO MANY now to be believed.

Posted by: Jo | Apr 28, 2008 4:32:43 PM

Anybody inspired by Obama's empty,
filthy rhetoric???

Posted by: edith | Apr 28, 2008 4:38:49 PM

Why has no one asked Rev. Wright if he is a Clinton supporter? He has been a supporter in the past and it would not be out of character for them to utilize this rhetoric to undercut their adversary. With the way Wright was spouting about accepting the VP position, it would not surprise me if that spot is not being dangled in front of this "obviously ambitious" Rev, as a tool to motivate him to play this game designed to ruin Obama. It would not be the first underhanded attempt to "steal" the nomination.

Posted by: cjvwise1 | Apr 28, 2008 4:41:32 PM

Karen, it is Obama who is sick and deranged for thinking he can hate America and be president at the same time.

Elitism is not just people who have money. It is a "frame of mind"...an attitude. Bush had money but no one would label Bush an elitist. He doesn't have the attitude of an elitist.

Barack does. Why did he go to Harvard and all these other schools? Wasn't Univ of Chicago enough? The loans wouldn't have been as large, maybe none at all.

Sorry, but your argument holds no water.

Posted by: Jo | Apr 28, 2008 4:41:39 PM

Obama will never take the heat off his elitism. The voters in NC won’t fall for Obama’s latest yarn either. His affluent white grandparents raised him. His grandmother, Madelyn Dunham (AKA Toot), was the first VP of a Hawaiian bank. His struggles aren’t with having lived an underprivileged life. He attended private schools in Hawaii, and the best universities. He’s had every advantage possible.

Hillary has, and will continue, to work for ALL Americans, not just the fortunate few.

Posted by: Emily | Apr 28, 2008 4:46:20 PM

Republican Party,

I disagree. Most of us still want Hillary. I'm happy Obama's "clean" image is now tarnished but there's much more dirt on Hillary.

Either way, McCain 08

Posted by: Joe | Apr 28, 2008 4:47:25 PM

Obama has a new superdelegate everytime he gets in trouble Hillary got a new super yesterday from MT. I would not be braging about Obama how could he sit in a hate filled church other black pastors do not preach hate.

Posted by: Bishop | Apr 28, 2008 4:50:14 PM

His grandparents working though the Great Depression which one was that the not the one in 1929.

His grandfather was born in 1918 and worked in a furniture store after leaving the military, while his grandmother was vice-president of a local bank.

Life was not that hard for Obama so it's time he gets his story correct and stop the lies over and over ....geez

Posted by: SJ | Apr 28, 2008 4:53:08 PM

Obama has so much integrity, and he has been working for for the poor his entire life. I hope that nasty politics doesn't distract people from his numerous strengths. He is the best candidate America has seen for decades.

Posted by: Teresa | Apr 28, 2008 4:53:41 PM

We tried to tell Obama not to trust the media, that they would turn on him "OJ" style, and they have. Now even his own pastor is "throwing him under the bus." Where are Teddy, Caroline, Maria Shriver, Oprah, Richardson, Claire McKaskill, et al.? Cat got their tongues? Obama made the big mistake of believing his own spin machine and so if any chickens are coming home to roost, it will be in his own backyard. Hilary said it all along but did anybody want to listen to her? Nooooo.

Posted by: druggstohr | Apr 28, 2008 5:01:18 PM

He's baaaack!! Yeah!

Druggstohr, Ted and Caroline Kennedy campaigned for Obama in PA, McKaskill is on TV defending him all the time. Richardson was just on CNN not 30 minutes ago. I've heard that Shriver has also campaigned for him since Texas. No one has abandoned him. If anything more are piling on.

Posted by: ConnieB | Apr 28, 2008 5:11:17 PM

If Obama is too much of a coward to face Hillary Clinton in a debate with no moderators after only 4 out of 21 with her alone, how does he expect us to believe he has the nerve to handle McCain, let alone, being the leader of the world's only super power.

If Obama wants us to look under the hood and kick the tires as he has claimed all throughout the campaign, what is he hiding? Maybe underneath the facade of a Ferrari is the engine of a Ford Escort?

Obama is a wimp. All hype. We all know his wife Michelle wears the pants in the family, don't we?

Posted by: sean66 | Apr 28, 2008 5:16:50 PM

LA Times is now reporting Obama took money in exchange for political favors. He awarded a state contract to Robert Blackwell Jr. when he was having financial problems. So much for "hope" and "change".

Posted by: goldenstate | Apr 28, 2008 5:17:04 PM

good for Obama. I always thought he should go back and talk to voters more deeply about his roots- to give him a deeper sense of who he is.

When I knocked on doors for Obama in PA, some people said "We don't know where he's been."Here's a golden opportunity for Obama to give it to them.

Posted by: southamco | Apr 28, 2008 5:23:03 PM

The fact that Rev. Wright is throwing him under the bus is because he knows Obama is no different from him, and wants everyone to know he is the typical politician. Wright thinks it's unfair that he takes all the flack for his beliefs while Obama is depicted as the Messiah.

What a liar Obama is to say "he wasn't there during the speech!" He always has an excuse for everything. What about his wife Michelle saying that in her adult life she was proud of America for the first time?

Combine the flip flop spinelessness of a John Kerry, with the head in the clouds Jimmy Carter, mix a bit of the used car sales man and you have Barack Obama. What a joke.

Imagine this Brent Scowcroft agrees with Barak Obama and his message of meeting with those that are even our enemies, gee now will the Media slime Scowcroft, who was Bush 1 and Jr.'s advisor??? So, this so called inexperienced person doesn't know what he's talking about huh? Maybe people would be wise to listen to Obama and people who are supporting him in Government rather then listening to all the blow bags on the so called "News" channels. Basically, all those people are doing is offering their own slant on the stories they are supposed to be reporting. Funny thing I don't remember Walter Kronkite or Chet Huntley and many other great news reporters doing that. Probably because there are so many news shows which aren't, all they are is talboid reporters, and their networks hire the woman who have great looks and some with no brains, and men who can prounance big words but don't know what the hell their talking about.
Remember these were the same water carriers for Bush and Cheney's Iraq War, which correct me if I'm wrong, Hillary voted for!

Jo, University of Chicago is a very expensive school. Moreover, many, many, MANY people consider Bush an elitist. And goldenstate, reread the article. You've inaccurately described the details. Edith, I'm totally inspired and I have to admit that I think the "filthy" bit is a projection. SJ, if you read his books you'd know that the whole thing is legit. His backstory has always been the same. You sound very uninformed.

This whole Rev. Wright "press tour" is a set up with the Obama campaign and which the liberal media is happily obliging Obama with. CNN and MSNBC will cover each and every one of Rev. Wright's outrageous speeches, and the pundits will continue to say that Obama needs to disassociate himself with the Rev. Obama will continue to play it cool, so as not to ####off the black voting block which is at 90%, until the drum beat for Obama to disown Wright gets so loud, Obama finally caves in and does it to make all the blue collar voters happy, and the black voters will understand because the liberal press explained it just so. Democrats are being taken for idiots by the filthy rich liberal billionaires running the democratic party. And of course, the fact that Obama sat in that church for 20 years and had the Rev. as his campaign advisor - the public will be told that doesn't matter. Predictable media. Is this still the United States?

Posted by: rs | Apr 28, 2008 6:13:04 PM

No offensive, but he still is missing the point. What is missing from his canidacy is that he doesn't bring out DETAILS. That is all he needs to win. Hillary is staggeringly brilliant with them and shows she cares. The more Obama resists delivering the details the less middle america will relate to them. Someone should get him on the phone and explain this to him--he can win the Whitehouse if he does this.

Erik you must have missed the Anderson Cooper 360 upclose on Barack. He lived with his grandparents in a very modest two bedroom apartments from age ten after returning from Indonesia where he saw poverty unlike anything in America. Sure he went to those schools because he was smart enough. Is that bad? Look what electing a C student got us. Oh and go check out what Mccains pastors are saying.

Posted by: patrick | Apr 28, 2008 6:38:58 PM

RJL - You have hit the nail on the head. I was thinking the exact same thing.

I really can't wrap my mind around this concept that people really think that every Sunday for 20 years his pastor was going off is just so ridiculous.

The idea that you agree with everyone you love and that sets your values is just silly. Can we please take an honest assesment here, of our relationships, race relations in the US and American policy, not Americans or what American stands for. If America actually lived up to what we stand for we would not be having this heated debate, because we CLAIM we believe in FREEDOM of SPEECH, but when someone like Rev. Wright expresses himself freely everyone is up in arms.

Jo said: "Elitism is not just people who have money. It is a "frame of mind"...an attitude. Bush had money but no one would label Bush an elitist. He doesn't have the attitude of an elitist."

BUSH Doesn't have the attitude of an elitist?? Are you out of your mind? Maybe he looks and acts silly, but Looking at the things that MATTER: Like his policies, tactics, THE FACT THAT HE WAS IN THE SKULL AND BONES SECRET SOCIETY!!! ALONE is enough to label him elitist of the highest level!!

Jo then goes on to say: "Barack does. Why did he go to Harvard and all these other schools? Wasn't Univ of Chicago enough? The loans wouldn't have been as large, maybe none at all."

You are blaming him for seeking better education?? What kind of twisted logic is this?? What kind of hypocrisy is this? Didn't bush and his dad and his grandfather all go to Elite Expensive schools and were all members of Skull an bones?

Please people, let's get beyond these childishness and actually have an intelligent discussion with arguments supported by REAL FACTS not SLANDER! Let's talk about the things that actually matter for once!

Posted by: Jack | Apr 28, 2008 7:24:51 PM

HEY...I see exactly what ALL YOU PEOPLE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR. Most of the complaints that I've read here are people who would NEVER vote for Obama anyway. The reason is CLEAR AS DAY. Rev. Wright is the PERFECT EXCUSE NOT TO VOTE FOR A BLACK MAN. All you are doing is HIDING BEHIND RELIGION,another REPUBLICAN TACTIC.Instead of admitting that your uncomfortable voting for the FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN,you hide behind comments SOMEONE ELSE MADE, then ASSOCIATE THOSE COMMENTS AS OBAMAS, and presto- a face saving decision to vote for AN ADMITTED LIAR. Several times at that!!!!Obama didn't do the "wrong doing" yet Clinton repeatedly lied to the American people on LIVE TELEVISION !!!!If thats what is important in America,(flag pins, pastors, elitism)instead of JOBS,HEALTHCARE,TAXES,EDUCATION.....then we really are DOOMED as a nation.Vote FOR a candidate -NOT AGAINST a candidate.

Posted by: mykle | Apr 28, 2008 7:25:53 PM

Obama is sharp, compassionate and tough. This race stuff is bogus. Obama is a regular guy in every way not an elitist or an angry black activist. Obama will be a great leader who gathers the best minds because he recognizes what it takes to forge an overall strategy to make us the best country we can be foreign and domestically. Obama has gone from nowhere to very likely being our next President. That to me is credibility. Who knows how far he can grow.

It's just crap. Oh, and by the way, Obama won Texas. To the woman who thinks Obama was all privileged...Obama never said he led a hardscrabble existence. He received a partial scholarship to his high school in Hawaii, that was the only way his grandparents could afford it. And because he got good grades he got a scholarship to Occidental College in LA. Because he got good grades there he was accepted to Columbia in NYC. He had to pay his own way into Harvard law and he and Michele just recently were able to pay off their student loans. How many Hillary sock puppets know that Terry McAuliffe loaned Bill and Hill $1 million so they could buy that home in New York so she could start her career as a carpetbagger? Look it up.

Obama 08

People do want change and Obama is back on the right track once again. He lost sight temporarily of why he wants to become president and without realizing he got hooked into the negativity. We do need to remember that he is human like everyone else. I like the new message and him sharing all the personal information regarding coming from a poor hard working family. We need to hear more of the Obama that was raised by a single mother and who had to pay off his student loans. Having gone to Harvard University does not make anyone elitist. I hope he never loses sight of why he is a candidate. Not losing sight is what will give him energy. Obama 08

Republicans are definitely playing us big time. Why do you think they (Rush, Hannity, all the conservative TV pundits, etc) are pushing so hard for Hillary to win the nomination? Hillary thinks "vetted" means that her baggage has already been dealt with and can't effectively be used against her. This is nonsense. The republicans would much rather attack Hillary in nonstop ads- to bring out the conservative antiHillary base- and remind the heartland of America of the scandals from the Clinton years. The repubs are afraid of Obama. McCain fancies himself to be the 'Maverick' for 'change in Washington' running against Hillary as an 'entrenched old Washington' politician. He is much less comfortable running against a 'change' candidate like Obama, because he wants to be the change candidate. This is how he pictures himself, and Obama owns the change theme. McCain would be pegged as the 'much older out of touch Washington insider' if he were forced to run against Obama, the 'uniter and changer'. It's all about identities and labels. It's clear which path is more difficult and less comfortable for McCain.

I would vote for miss Rice, but never for Obama.

Posted by: John | Apr 28, 2008 8:23:33 PM

Most women supporting Hillary Clinton will vote for Obama if he gets the nomination since either Democrat is clearly a better choice than McSame. But if Hillary wins by buying off superdelegates with political offers, our party will lose many of the new young members and reengaged Democrats, as well as independents who look to Obama for change. A superdelegate coup would also drive away the black conservative voters that Obama draws. I’m guessing Clinton might ask Obama to run as VP if she wins, but he’d probably decline, given the polarizing politics she engenders. If he wins, a VP who attracts voters where Obama lacks a large following would be a better choice than Clinton. Gov. Bill Richardson’s political stance is in alignment with Obama and could attract Hispanic voters, or John Edwards could draw white middle class men and women that have voted for Sen. Clinton. Unfortunately, the Democratic party’s success at this point may be dependent on whether the GOP can utilize the current anti-Hillary furor as their main Get Out The Vote strategy.

This year there is more at stake than just the presidency. We have the unprecedented opportunity to fire Bush-policy rubber-stamping & obstructionist Republicans in the U.S. Senate and replace them with Democrats who can get us out of Iraq, enact true election reform, and get big business out of our government. We might even get a handle on health care, equal rights and immigration issues on the way. Many Republicans are so uninspired by McSame that they’ll just sit out the vote entirely. Meanwhile, new voters motivated by Obama can help us elect 10-15 new Democrats in the Senate. Unless Hillary is still running, of course. She’ll bring out the conservative base again. Compare the re-engagement of Hillary-haters to a lackluster Republican turnout coupled with the Yes We Can’s millions of new voters that will vote Democrat across the ticket if Obama wins the nomination.

The only way for Sen. Clinton to win at this point is if she undermines the Democrat party by convincing superdelegates and pledged delegates to voter for her in spite of Obama’s success with rank and file Democrats. If women who support Hillary really want a Democrat president and a meaningful Democrat majority in Congress, it’s time for us to stop hoping she’ll catch up and start finding ways to support her Democratic opponent.

It's over for Obama, at least he isn't going down in flames like it appeared.
He is unelectable. Period. End of report.
Clinton doesn't have to undermine anyone, Obama and his mentor, arrogance, and unpatriotic stances did it for her.
He lost his steam and couldn't recoup. Now it looks like she will win both NC and Indiana.
It will be a devastating blow to his team of devotees.

What Obama should do this week.

Go to a military base in North Carolina and give that speech he has needed to give for a month -- a speech about patriotism. He could re-elevate his candidacy, answer questions some skeptics may have, blunt the Rev. Wright garbage and attack the Bush Cheney legacy and their general destruction of the Constitution (all to the cheers of every Democrat alive). He could start, most heavily and most soundly with John McCain’s non-support of the new GI Bill, then he could head right into the “Torture Meetings” at the White House, the lack of armored vehicle and body armor STILL in Iraq, Walter Reed, the high suicide and attempted suicide rate among Iraqi and Afghan war vets, homeless veterans, habeas corpus, war profiteering, FISA etc. He could finish by pointing out that although he doesn’t want to diminish the importance of jewelry to the cause of freedom, he does, in fact believe that defending the Constitution as well as protecting and REALLY supporting our troops may trump a flag pin as a gesture of patriotism. This campaign needs an infusion of higher purpose and a little honest to goodness Patrick Henry-style idealism. Obama could do it with one hand tied behind his back.

I support Obama. I belive that these endorsements are important becasue they are SD'd. But he MUST disavow Rev. Wright. Strong terms will insure that the electorate doesn't get spoked by the "angry black man".

To those of you bitching about Obama's elitism, just recall what Jon Stewart observed on the Daily Show: "isn't it about time we had an elitist as President? Elite means top of the line, and the best there is." For those of you who are afraid of elitism, then you should be very happy with the towel-snapping frat boy we have had in the White House for 7 years !!

Hillary only wants a debate because she can't afford to campaign much longer--it's free publicity..haven't you heard her campaign lied about how much money got donated after her win in PA!!!

I say "NO" to another debate with her until after IN and NC.... pay for your own advertisements Clinton.....

Talk about anti-americans..Bill goes to China to protest against American while dodging going into the service during Vietnam--read the letter Col Eugene Holmes wrote about Bill Clinton.......and Hillary becomes partners with a law firm that defended communist--she supposedly stood for womens rights while on the board of directors for Wal Mart during a time when they were accused of violating womens rights..she is not what she seems---wait till the republicans get hold of her!!!!!!!!!!If she becomes the DNC nominee I will vote for McCain....

I don't know if Obama will win the Indiana or the North Carolina primary, but I sure pray that he does. We need a compassionate intelligent individual with integrity in the whitehouse for a change. I'm sick of the lying clintons and the lying bushes. What I do know is, as Rev. Wright said, "what God has for you, no one can take away" Furthermore, all these folks that are so worried about Rev. Wright are purely racist and/or hypocrits. What do these same folks think about 'The Family' Clinton belongs to or the racist hateful comments Hagee or Parsley continue to make? You're hiding behind the vail of the internet. You don't have to lie about being who and what you are, racist and hypocritical.

Glad to see Obama getting back to the real issues and letting people see who he is. This election has made me face my own inner shortcomings of racial sterotyping. I am glad to see someone run for the office of President of the United States that actually worked to get there. It proves that if you are willing to work hard you can do whatever you put your mind too. How many of you have gone out in your neighborhoods to lend a hand to the poor and needy? How many of you have taken the time to search your hearts about your own shortcomings? How many of you feel its ok to lie, cheat and steal for what you want? Everyone loves this new tax rebate....how about the fact that the United States had to borrow, yes borrow, money from China to pay for you to stimulate OUR economy. If we cared about our country we should send it back...spending it only furthers the bottom line of the corporations that have sent your jobs overseas. Our children will pay dearly for our mistakes, but at least they see the writing on the wall which can't be said for most of the boomers.

We are not fooled by the folks who say they will vote for HIllary or McCain! YOU had no intention to vote on POLICY!!John McCain's policies are TOTALLY different from Democrats (even Hillary) ... Have you read or heard of his opinions on health care? Families should be responsible! Do you want your family's children fighting in Irag for 100 years? My son already gave his year to the war. What about Afghanistan? What about McCain's temperament? his age? you are not being rational, just emotional - likely 'racist'....'nuff said...word

I believe Clinton declared before Obama, so why didn't he support her on her efforts since people claim they are so similar? I do think Obama is elitist that is why he has "stolen" his elections to get where is today, usually at the cost of a female OR a badly damaged candidate. (See Chicago Tribune's Obama knows his way around a ballot.)

Sen. Obama, I take my hat off to you. This is the very message that I have been trying to get across on the net!! Ignore Sen. Clinton, let her self-destruct. Get out there and talk to the people about all the issues! By the way Sen. McCain's health Care plan pushes Government assistance of $5000 per family, and $2500 for individuals. This money will be sent direct by the Gov. to the insurer. Is Sen. McCain trying to control the population growth? $5000 per family seems unfair, what happens with a a large family? At what age does a member of a "family" become eligible for individual coverage?

Good Luck Sen. Obama, we are rooting for you!

I need some help here.

Has anyone heard anything about the Clintons' siblings? Why is there absolutely nothing ever posted on these individuals. This is really kind of weird. Bill Clinton has a half brother....Roger....who was pardoned by Bill....after Roger was convicted of felony drug charges. Hillary has two brothers Hughie and Tony Rodham, who got into all kinds of messes. I just wonder why we hear nothing about them. Why aren't they around to support and congratulate their Sister? And please this is not "idle gossip" I've been wondering for quite sometime now, and found this info on the net, I think it was under..google....Hillary Clinton's Siblings

Anyone who decides to not vote for the Democratic candidate should NOT vote for McCain, that is patently RIDICULOUS. Nader has more in common with the Democrats than McCain does. If you're not going to vote Democratic, vote Green.

McCain is utterly confused and has done a 180 from most of the "maverick" positions he used to hold, back when he would only vote the party line 85% of the time; he opposed the Bush tax cuts as fiscally irresponsible (rightly), then reversed. He opposed long-term occupation of Iraq in a 2005 interview with Chris Matthews (rightly) then reversed. The "straight talk express" has become the "say anything to appeal to the right wing base express". A vote for McCain has become a vote for a "third term" for Bush 2 in light of how far McCain has reversed his prior position.

ps: Obama won the white male rural vote in North Dakota, Iowa, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho and in all the predpminantly white working class states that HE WON BY DOUBLE DIGIT MARGINS. Stop the lies about whether Obama can "appeal" to white working class men. He has won by double digits in states FILLED with white working class men and women. These pundits just parrot the same unproven statement again and again without checking what they're saying against the FACTS as seen in exit polling from prior contests Obama has won by HUGE margins in overwhelmingly white working class Western states.

I see with wonder how the democratic party and its establishment are bent upon giving the nomination to Obama on a platter; he just has to say thanks for your money and for your super-del-supports. Is it that we are watching a phenomenon enacted for Bush in 2000 so that he could act and be a good stooge!I admire the great courage Hillary is showing in fighting all these "bitter" colleagues who have banded against her. It will be a well earned nomination for you Hillary! Go Hillary, Go!

Bless you Barack Obama.
"This election is not about me. It's not about Sen. Clinton. It's not about John McCain. It's about you. It's about your struggles, your hopes, your dreams."

What an extraordinary leader.

I like what somebody else said earlier. Where is the love and forgiveness that ministers should be teaching? Why do we have to agree or disagree with Rev. Wright? Let him entertain himself, and everybody personally demonstrate love and forgiveness. Everybody needs to remember: we are in a new age, and there has been some progress. Yet all anybody has to do is read blogs like these and see how much hatred is in a lot of people's hearts. I love Barack and Michelle Obama and pray for them and all for wisdom and lovingkindness.

For the sake of North America, Obama MUST become the next President of the United States. If either Hillary Clinton (and her gang) or John McCain (and his cronies) becomes the next President of The USA, the American people will suffer the consequences, and it won’t be pretty.

The World’s money supply - that fuels America - will be increasingly difficult to obtain. The World’s moneylenders just got “suckered” by the Americans and many of them took a heavy loss. They don’t want to be” suckered again!” They want to see change!

Unfortunate, but true, for Clinton and McCain, the World’s moneylenders see them as Status Quo, and more of the same. The biggest threat to the average American’s wellbeing is not a terrorist threat from abroad, but rather… (We interrupt this message to join Senator Obama during a speech in progress in Raleigh, North Carolina)

“The most serious threat to the wellbeing of most Americans is not a physical threat from abroad, but rather a financial threat from within its own borders. We must always stand on guard for America, we must never fail Her, but it is tantamount that we get our financial house in order, and we must do it now! We cannot wait another four years; we cannot stand by idly and watch our economy flounder like a fish out of water.
“I am not a miracle man, I cannot feed a multitude of people with two pieces of fish and a few loafs of bread. Nobody on earth can. It takes a lot of hard work to feed a multitude of people. And it takes a lot of hard work to support those people after they are fed.
“All that we ask for, here in America, is for the opportunity to support our own people. To build roads, and churches, and schools for them. To provide them with essential services, productive activities, medicines and loving care. We will provide doctors and nurses, bricklayers and electricians, miners and machine operators. We will provide lifeguards and inspectors, technicians, musicians, inventors and entrepreneurs. We will not rest until ALL Americans are productive or gainfully employed and we will reward them for their effort. With the aid of science, and a compassion for our fellow man, America will feed the world, generate new sources of pure power, rebuild a nation, and put our people to work.
“We have it all right here in America. We have talented people from all walks of life, gorgeous mountains, sweeping plains and vast forests. Within ten years, we shall not be dependent upon a single drop of imported oil, with the exception of oil that we purchase and import from Canada and Mexico, and some of our other trusted friends. Canada has more oil than Saudi Arabia and Mexico plans to deliver for the next twenty years. We shall offer them a fair price for their oil, we don’t steal from our friends. And in return we will offer them our products, at our very best price, and we will offer them more. We will offer to share our domestic markets with them on a cordial basis. The United States is the backbone of North America and North America is the most prosperous of all the continents. We expect to have good relationships with our friends in Europe, The Middle East, Asia, Africa, South America and Australia, but the Canadians and the Mexicans will always be our closest friends.
“We expect to provide meaningful and rewarding employment for all Americans that are able and choose to work. We expect to provide support for our artists and care for our elderly people. We expect to share the wealth generated in the United States of America amongst the people of America in an amicable way. There is something fundamentally wrong when some employees of Corporate America receive hundreds of millions of dollars annually, while other employees work for the minimum wage. The gap is far too wide and it is getting wider every day. There is something fundamentally wrong when employees work their entire adulthood only to discover that their hard-earned pension has vanished, gone up in smoke on Wall Street. There is something fundamentally wrong with some of our laws and regulations that would allow such a thing to happen. There is something fundamentally wrong with Corporate America when it disavows its obligations to the citizens that it serves. There is something fundamentally wrong, and its time for a fundamental change. We must change our way of thinking, and we must change our way of doing business if we are to prosper and….”

We interrupt this speech to bring you this special message: An asteroid, the size of Guam has been detected and it is heading in our general direction. NASA informs us that a collision with our planet is unavoidable and at its current speed impact will take place on or about November 30 of this year. We are sorry for this interruption. Now back to Senator Obama, and the closing moments of his speech.

Disenfranchising the American voters should be making Obama REAL popular right about now in Michigan and Florida; the seat of 9% of all democratic voters..Americans need a candidate who knows (W)RIGHT from WRONG when they see and hear it..not years later to save one's arse!!
