Obama Says McCain Better than Bush, Clinton Responds

April 20, 2008 7:08 PM

ABC News' Eloise Harper and Sunlen Miller report: Sen. Barack Obama, speaking in Reading, Pa., said that John McCain would be better than President Bush, and Hillary Clinton used the line as an opening to attack both Obama and McCain.

"You have a real choice in this election. You know, either Democrat would be better than John McCain, but, and all three of us would be better than George Bush," Obama said. "What you have to ask yourself is who has the chance to actually really change things in a fundamental way? So that 10 years from now or 20 years from now you can look back say, 'Boy, we really moved in a new direction and we've put the country on a better path.'"

Clinton pounced on the comments immediately in Johnstown, Pa.

"Sen. Obama said today that John McCain would be better for the country than George Bush. Now Sen. McCain is a real American patriot who has served our country with distinction. Sen. McCain would follow the same fatal policies that have been so wrong for our country the last seven years. Sen. McCain thinks its OK to keep our troops in Iraq for the next 100 years. Is that better than George Bush?"

But Clinton didn't stop there. She continued the line of questioning.

"Sen. McCain will continue the failed economic policies of George Bush that have brought us deficit and increasing debt. Is that better than George Bush? Sen. McCain does not have a health care plan that will cover every American. In fact, we will have more and more uninsured Americans. Is that better than George Bush? Sen. McCain has no plans to end the housing foreclosure crisis or cut the cost of gas at the pump. Is that better than George Bush? We need a nominee who will take on John McCain, not cheer on John McCain, and I will be that nominee," Clinton said.

This is the latest in the back and forth between the two candidates leading up to the Pennsylvania primary. Clinton and Obama have been trading barbs over a range of issues including health care and the oil companies.

Well I don't think it is rocket science to figure out that a whole host of people would be a better president than the one we got.

What did Rumsfeld say about trained apes again....?

Congratulations Obama, you just gave up the McCain = Bush meme. Not that anyone much bought it anyway.

Obama Lied and Hope Died!

Posted by: John in VA | Apr 20, 2008 7:22:00 PM

I think Obama meant that McCain is likely to be able to string enough words together to actually speak a whole sentence. That alone makes him better than Bush.

Why doesn't ABC News remind Americans why Republicans tossed McCain under the bus in 2000 and gave us Bush. . .

Posted by: kevinbgoode | Apr 20, 2008 7:29:59 PM

Obama will best John McCain in November! Let's rally behind him and put a Democrat in office! Obama 08!

Posted by: Susan | Apr 20, 2008 7:43:35 PM

most modern republicans are ok... most modern democrats?? socialists. keep beating each other up, as a conservative, its kind of fun to sit back and watch right now.

Posted by: tim | Apr 20, 2008 7:49:57 PM

I saw the whole speech and it is really unfair/misleading/dishonest to take a single line out of context. Obama made it clear that he would end this type of game being played. America is tired of the political parsing played by Hillary. She needs to be unselfish for the first time in her life and concede.

OMG!!!

SHE and BILL have been PRAISING McCain for MONTHS!!!

Seriously, does that Campaign have Alzheimer's? They have NO MEMORY!!

Saying she never whined about the media, Bosnia, NAFTA, now THIS?

Are they TRYING to LOSE??

WILD!!

Posted by: sue | Apr 20, 2008 7:51:34 PM

BTW....He was being HONEST!

McCain IS better than Bush...not MUCH better...but BETTER.

THIS is the NEW POLITICS....HONESTY....not demonizing your opponent.

Sorta refreshing and civil, huh?

That is, if Clinton wasn't around.

This woman's entire campaign is tracking down every little word Obama says in order to contradict him! This is ridiculous! This is so typical of a woman(sorry ladies). Damn! I'm so tired of her and her minions. Then they feel as if no one should sling mud, eventhough they have slung mud from day one. Now they're putting ricks in their mud! I'm sorry she just can't win. She not presidential...AT ALL!

Hillary Clinton: "I have passed the commander-in-chief test. Senator McCain has passed the commander-in-chief test. Senator Obama has not."

Barack Obama: "Either [I or Clinton] would be a better President than John McCain. And any of use would be a better President than President Bush."

Let's see. Who's the Democrat, and who's the Republican?

Posted by: BMR, Pittsburgh PA | Apr 20, 2008 8:06:33 PM

True believer, yes, Obama verbally say that he would not employ dirty political games. But his actions are contrary to his words as he has always been. He and his campaign has aggressively launched personal attacks at Hillary over and over. In fact, even in November 2007, in an interview with Newsweek, Obama said Hillary's untruthful. Also, you watch how much money Obama has spent in putting so negative ads in Pennsylvania and called new media attacking Hillary personally. How disgusting this is. There are many examples to show how hypocritical Obama is. I will never vote for him. Never, ever!

Posted by: Candy | Apr 20, 2008 8:08:21 PM

Obama fans.

I hope you realize that the republicans will play that tape over and over in the general election.

Mc Cain better than Bush.

WHY ????

WHY????

WHY DOES OBAMA DO STUFF LIKE THIS. HE CANT STOP STICKING HIS FOOT IN HIS MOUTH.

My god man.

SHUT UP IF YOU HONESTLY EXPECT TO HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN THE GENERAL ELECTION.

YOU ARE ALREADY ON THIS ICE AS IT IS.

By time June rolls around, Clinton is going to have a TWO HOUR full length movie to show the super delegates of OBAMA GAFFES .

Posted by: tomdavie | Apr 20, 2008 8:15:36 PM

Obama is the only candidate that can make a real difference for this country. He will be able to bring this country together. He will be able to start cleaning up the mess caused by the bush-league during the last 7.5 years. I predict thet PA will surprise a lot of people on Tuesday. Obama will defeat Hillary and then go on to defeat mc-more-war in the fall. We'll be able to tell our kids and grandkids that we voted for a true leader, a guy that turned this country around. Obama 2008!

Posted by: pt | Apr 20, 2008 8:17:59 PM

It was a well calculated statement on Obama's part. It was a trap for Hillary and she fell into it.

We are all aware of the speech she gave not too long ago in which she praised herself and McCain for passing the "experienc and C-in-C" test. Her criticism of Obama's statement on McCain makes her look stupid.

Posted by: Teejay | Apr 20, 2008 8:19:42 PM

A Third Bush Term (led by McCain) could possibly be better than the first or second Bush terms.

But a Third Clinton term (led by Hillary) would likely be worse than the first or second Clinton terms.

Don't act surprised like you don't know Republicans were going to counter McCain-3rd-Bush term with Hillary-3rd-Clinton term? That was always going to be a winning counterpunch for them. First the thought of a 3rd Clinton term unites the Republican Party like you've never seen before. Second, many Democrats support Obama because they're sick and tired of the Clintons and the Bush's.

Posted by: Diamond | Apr 20, 2008 8:22:01 PM

She has been pandering to the republican base for sometime now. Her John is all I have heard for a couple of months. Typical of Hillary.

what part of the country are we talking about him bringing together. In Ga. there seems to be a split we have not seen flags for about 5 years this week end they are back. I am from Pa so I have no problem with Obama but he is not who I am for I'm just wondering how this after math is going to work if he does or doesn't gein.

Posted by: Thinking | Apr 20, 2008 8:26:23 PM

to tomdavie

In the end, I'm sure a good democrat like yourself will fold and vote for Obama. It will be the thinking middle who determine the outcome of the election as usual.

Posted by: Surelock Homes | Apr 20, 2008 8:30:27 PM

Polls indicate that 1/4 to 1/3 of the democrats will switch to McCain if their candidate looses. Those numbers are probably too big. The bottom line is that through and through democrats will vote the party. So what is the fuss?

Posted by: Aston | Apr 20, 2008 8:33:02 PM

As Teejay commented, this is a standard set of logical statements - standard academic comparisons. True statement.
For Clinton to give an "answer" or "explanation" just makes her look like a fool.
Good going Sen. Obama

This from the woman who said that she had passed the test for commander in chief and John McCain had passed the test for commander in chief but Obama . . .
Obama said McCain might not be as bad as Bush. Clinton said McCain would be better then a democrat. I wonder if she even remembers all the different spins she's tried. One would think not when she leaves herself so wide open.Incoming Hill!

Posted by: karela | Apr 20, 2008 8:34:29 PM

Anyone would be better than Bush -- but Obama is making a mistake by ceasing to make the point that a McCain administration would be a third Bush term. Obama, whom I support, is going to have a tough fight against McCain, and he must capitalize on Americans' frustration with the war and McCain's intention to remain in Iraq. Obama must make sure that voters understand that McCain is McSame.

Posted by: Katya | Apr 20, 2008 8:34:40 PM

Go back and check on the 1980 race when Regan had a landslide thier were more than 1/3 who won't vote for the other so this is about done.

Posted by: Bishop | Apr 20, 2008 8:37:18 PM

Anyone see mccain this morning on tv. He looks and sounds terrible. He's already been dubbed a flip-flopper for his stance on taxes. I thought this election might be close but it's looking more and more like Obama will win in the fall by a landslide.

About a month or two ago, didn't Hillary try to paint McCain as a better candidate than Obama? Or at least a better commander-in-chief. And now she's worked up because Obama said that McCain is better than Bush? Something doesn't seem right here.

Posted by: jbdsm | Apr 20, 2008 8:43:09 PM

So Hillary says both her and John McCain will bring a wealth of experience to the White House and Obama will bring nothing. That's not cheering on McCain?

I'm not going to change I'm just going to write Hillary in

Posted by: Bishop | Apr 20, 2008 8:50:41 PM

Obama stated the obvious once more and people want to make a big issue about it. Same as his comment about bitter workers who embrace religion when things go bad--most of us do.

Posted by: Pablo | Apr 20, 2008 8:56:29 PM

She is amazing isn't she , this woman keeps doing herself in, she said better things about McCin , she just fell rightinto his trap, now she looks like a liar, b/c on monday all the shows wll show her pouncing on him for this , and then bring back how she said mccain bring a lot experience and senator Obama brings a speech, and th commander in chief test she has passed and so has senator mccain. She really is a piece of work isn't she, will say and do any thing especially when the oppurtunity seems to be in her favor, but they miscalculated this time. CHECKMATE...GoTCHA HILLARY you look like a putts!!!

Posted by: Edwina | Apr 20, 2008 8:58:24 PM

Duh. Mr. Ed would be a better president than George Bush. The bar is so low, even a donkey could jump over it. Ms. Hillary's got that trigger finger at the ready. God help us. Yes, Hillary has been campaigning for months about how McCain is a better candidate than Obama. Her tactics are beyond disgraceful.

Posted by: Annie | Apr 20, 2008 8:59:49 PM

Oh I'm sorry Hillary weren't you the one that said that John McCain was ready to be commander in chief in Texas. Didn't she say that both her and him had the experience and Obama didn't. How, tell me how is this different? Obama respects McCain and he is obviously trying to set up a clean tone for the general election after you decided to go nuclear on your fellow Democrat Hillary.

Posted by: Gonzalo | Apr 20, 2008 9:02:05 PM

She has told so many stories now she can't remember where she stands. Soon she will be saying if you don't vote for me I'll vote for McCain

Posted by: Thinking | Apr 20, 2008 9:03:24 PM

We all know that if McCain had been president for the past 8 years we would be better off than having the monkey in office we have now. That said, McCain is now too old, too angry, and too demented--which ironically makes him still better that W. Oh, what a sad state we are in. Obama spoke the truth. Heavens alive! No truth speaking allowed. Arrest that man!!

Posted by: Earl | Apr 20, 2008 9:04:38 PM

You know what. As a Hillary supporter I like this Obama better. He finally realized he couldn’t sell the Koolaid anymore and has gone full into the political machinery. I like him better now. No more Kumbaya BS. He is part of the brothel; just like Hillary, Bill & McCain.

Posted by: Leanza Cornett | Apr 20, 2008 9:04:48 PM

This is getting so ridiculous. It is really tiresome to keep reading about this silliness.

Hillary herself praised McCain so I think she should pick another avenue to fight or just focus on her qualifications.

Posted by: MovieWatcher | Apr 20, 2008 9:08:03 PM

Why do you guys get so worked up about all this? We all know the media is biased. They have been for a long time. Some networks/hosts favor Obama, and others prefer the She-Devil. Big Deal!

If you don't know by now that Hillary Clinton is an evil, self-deluded, egomaniacal, self-serving, opportunistic, pathologically dishonest cheat, then YOU'VE BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK for the past 15-20 years!

Yes, she has her fans, but for every American who likes her, 10 more can't stand the sight of her. Her negatives are so high, she can't possibly win the nomination, much less the general election. SHE IS DESPERATE WITH A CAPITAL "D" and doing what she does best - fighting dirty.

American is sick of it, and that's why she is LOSING and more importantly, why SHE WILL INEVITABLY LOSE THE NOMINATION!!!

Relax, America, it's going to be OK. We're NOT going to allow a "3rd Bush Term"... I promise you, it's NOT going to happen!

Read the Huffington Post post about how William Ayers is going to be Obama's achilles heel. Not Wright, not Bittergate....William Ayers.

And this is written by an Obama supporter.

Posted by: Jo | Apr 20, 2008 9:15:06 PM

The first half of the debate was not the problem for Obama. It was the second half. He totally fumbled for answers when asked about real issues such as taxes, gun ban, Iraq, etc. He seemed totally surprised by the follow-up questions. There was almost a panicked look that he had to go off-script and elaborate more on his one liners and stump speech lines. He certatinly failed to lay out and expalin his plans for taxes.

Posted by: Terry | Apr 20, 2008 9:24:16 PM

More proof that the Democratic Party is in real trouble.... They have lost their way don't understand how to prioritize = do they want to win in Nov?

If the democrats want to win they would pick the candidate that wins: OHIO, PA, MICH, NY, CAL, NJ, KY, IN. - because both candidates records and reputations have been hurt in this campaign...

If you can not win those.... NOW.... You have no chance...

McCain will win ... If Obama is the candidate.

Period.... The Dems. are falling into the Republicans hands. Again.

Dumb.

Posted by: mike | Apr 20, 2008 9:32:45 PM

Mike,

you just point out why the electorial college needs to be changed. Many states now require that their college go according to the National Vote and not according to how the State votes.

Work to Change the process in your State.

Posted by: Thinking | Apr 20, 2008 9:38:30 PM

mike:

You've included KY and IN in your list - two states that are relatively minor for the general election - and that haven't voted yet!

You've also included MI - which had an *illegal* primary. (Or did you miss where the Michigan Supreme Court ruled that primary unconstitutional?)

You've also failed to note that CA, NY, NJ and MI are all reliably Democratic. PA has gone Democratic the last 4 Presidential elections as well.

Finally, the primary is not the general. Most people recognize this, and know that a candidate who wins a state in a primary doesn't say anything about how that state will go in a general election.

Other than those minor issues, good post.

Boy, I'd love to be a journalist so I could ask HRC, on camera, to name a potential president (someone living, to rule out Herbert Hoover) she thinks George W. Bush is BETTER than. I'm shocked if she does not think McCain could do at least as well as W. -- and this does not mean I am a big fan of McCain -- I presume, however, that McCain would have known enough to make prompt use of the military during Katrina.

Posted by: Ron | Apr 20, 2008 9:44:41 PM

I'm sure he was so ###### off with the line of questions in the first half of the debate, that when the 2nd half FINALLY came around he was so "bitter" with Hillary, George and Charlie he was too busy biting his tongue. And if you've seen any of the other debates compared to this last one you would know Hillary knew what questions they were going to ask and when - she had everything she said memorized.!!!

Posted by: caddycts | Apr 20, 2008 9:45:29 PM

Hillary has been cheering John McCain for last two months:....that means she is now saying "I am a HYPOCRITE"....

....sadly there are still a lot of_IDIOTS_to vote for this hypocrite.

Posted by: moeen | Apr 20, 2008 9:49:07 PM

My gosh anyone is better than Bush. The truth, he didn't infer that McCain is better than Hillary. Which he has stated on many occasions that either of them is better than McCain. Trying for more of the manipulated truth that is her style. Only Bill does that kind of underhanded stuff, saying that only Hillary and McCain are patriotic... I believe that Barack would like to see a more civil campaign in the fall. May not happen and definitely wouldn't if Hillary is our candidate.

Posted by: Gwen PA | Apr 20, 2008 9:52:57 PM

disgusted....

Actually Obama went out of his way to find Ayers and befriend him....Then he begged Ayers to do a fundraiser for him for his Senate run...and they sat on a Board together...booked speeches together...actually they were friends and Ayers even kicked in on Obama's presidential campaign.

No big deal I guess that Ayers is a guy that bombed the Pentagon...got off on a legal technicality and insists he would bomb more if possible.

The big deal is that obama says he has different views than Ayers and even the Board which explored ways to eliminate the 2nd amendment. He says he didn't hear Wright for 20 years too....I'm sure that he didn't want the endorsement from Hamas even though Wright was writing wonderful things about Hamas in the church bulletin four months ago.

It is about his judgement. It is about his policies. It is about the fact that he has friends that most people would shy away from...How many terrorists do you know? Do you think it's OK that Ayers bombed the Pentagon as long as it's been awhile and he got away with it?

Look I don't invite terrorists to dinner and I don't allow racists to rant around my children...I'm just not sure where Obama draws the line with his associations...It doesn't look like he has any lines to me...Here's a guy that wants to be president to "change things" and I really don't care for his background and associations and i wonder what he would want to change America to...I know that Hamas thinks they would like an Obama America

I've seen 6 or 7 debates altogether between Obama, Clinton and the other presidentiables. If the line of questioning during the first part is all that it takes to shake him up, then I don't have that much confidence in him.

Frankly, there is relatively small difference between Obama and Clinton's policy compared to Republicans'. So I was looking for how he would layout his plans and explain how he would execute them. I was not impressed.

It wasn't long ago that Hillary was pandering for votes promoting the Dream Ticket, Now you who want to vote for both of us Can she said.

He is saying it again, there are three of us better than Bush. You have to choose.

Poor Hillary must be tired and confused from all of the campaigning, so she mis-spoke. I certainly hope she never has to take a serious call at 3:00 AM... she gets so rattled when she's tired, that she thinks people have been shooting at her, or she forgets that GWB is the worst president this country has ever had.

But if you dems want to win this November then you better vote for Hillery because Obama does not have a chance in hell to win.

I'm just going to say that now and give you some good advice.

McCain is ahead of Obama by 50% to 42%. But Hillery is ahead of McCain I don't know what the numbers are.

Posted by: Zach | Apr 20, 2008 10:27:40 PM

Terry - which part of the policy portion of the debate didn't impress you?

Was it the part on dealing with Iran? Obama's very first point was that Iran couldn't be allowed to gain nuclear capability at any cost. (Seems logical - if Iran doesn't become a nuclear threat, that immediately avoids escalating tensions in the region.)

Clinton's main point was to propose a "security umbrella" for allies in the Middle East. (Translation: if two Middle East countries go to war with one another, we could end up in the middle.) Clinton didn't get around to discussing proactive measures against Iran until her final talking point on this question.

Was it the part about fixing Social Security? Obama discussed both temporary hikes in capital-gains taxes and a raise in the Social Security payroll tax.

Clinton dismissed both of these ideas - but didn't offer any suggestions on how to raise the money. Just "no new taxes" and "no cut benefits" and "there must be some way" to accomplish the goal.

Remember Clinton bringing up the 1983 Reagan commission on Social Security as a rebuttal for how to fix the issue? As Obama pointed out, that same commission proposed the same measures Obama talked about. Fortunately for Clinton, she got bailed out of having to respond by another TV timeout.

But hey, don't take my word for it. This is posted on the ABC News site. They've got clips of the debate on here.

Posted by: BMR, Pittsburgh PA | Apr 20, 2008 10:32:24 PM

What Clinton said on March 3, 2008:

"I think that I have a lifetime of experience that I will bring to the White House. Sen. John McCain has a lifetime of experience that he'd bring to the White House. And Sen. Obama has a speech he gave in 2002."

Oh yeah, that's much better.

Posted by: Mia | Apr 20, 2008 10:57:29 PM

Why don't we see Bill Clinton and George Bush Sr hanging out together anymore? Last year we saw them golfing, lunching, being elitist - you don't even hear them talking about Bush Sr anymore. Are they no longer friends? or is friendship on hiatus until the election is over?

Posted by: caddycts | Apr 20, 2008 11:35:36 PM

Hillary and Bill Clinton are the lying people on earth. They lie so much they cover an old lie with a new lie. Is it not better for Obama to say the obvious that McCain would make a better President than Bush (comparing two republicans) than for both Hillary and Bill to suggest McCain is better qualified than Obama. These two snakes have done this on several occassions.

If Hillary is now saying McCain is no better than Bush this means she is also saying Obama is no better than Bush since she and Bill have gone out of their way to promote McCain over their democratic colleague.

How many lies and attempts to play "gotcha" are we going to hear from the desperate Clintons who are willing to destroy the entire democratic party before accepting the fact the "Clinton Machine" has totally malfunctioned, is beyond repair, and is ready to be retired in the junkyard.

Every one knows the average 5th grader would make a better President than Bush. So how many times will Obama be punished for telling the truth while the media continue using Hillary and Bill Clinton's lies to smear Obama.

Hillary should leave the race. At least when Mike Hucklebee stayed in the race against the odds he was decent enough to refrain from damaging the likely nominee. Hillary and Bill know full well, they are the ones working with McCain to damage Obama for the fall. She is now trying to use her latest ridiculous accusations against Obama as he has stated the obvious as an attempt to cover her own muddy tracks.

Earlier this year, when it was determined certain candidates were mathematically incapable of winning they were not allowed to be part of the debates. It is time we question whether Hillary should even be allowed to debate Obama at this point. It is obvious from seeing the last debate Hillary's only strategy at this point is "to kill, and to steal, and to destroy".

Bill is right. His wife at 60+ is losing her memory. Do we want a president who has lost it before getting into office, that is if whe ever will? Both she and Bill have been praising McCain all along during this campaign. Said he, "Hillary and John are friends and like each other. They will have a civil campaign" - or words to that effect. That is when Bill began to discredit Obama and then came his racial remakrs before the South Carolina primary, etc. Now, Hillary is worked up because Obama said that McCain could make a better president than Bush? What a hypocite? This republican will vote for Obama!

Posted by: Republican | Apr 21, 2008 1:06:21 AM

Has Hillary forgotten how she propped up McCain against her Democratic opponent? Why does this woman make me wish I were a man? Do we really need more Bush/Clinton scandal, corruption and global embarrassment? The world is still giggling over Hillary's tall tales of peacemaking and bullet dodging.

Posted by: Joycelyn | Apr 21, 2008 1:20:54 AM

Yeah, I was going to say: "Remember when you said McCain was more qualified than Obama?" How is that for a scorched earth campaign policy? Now you are trying to twist: "Anyone would be better than Bush." into "I endorse John McCain." ??? You are the one who endorsed McCain, and I for one will remember that. My memory has not yet started turning photo-ops into heroic life or death struggles.

Hi - there's a big difference between
Hillary saying McCain passed the experience and CinC test, and her pointing to Obama that McCain isn't going to be better than Bush.

You see, she's talking about McCain's policy pronouncements as being as bad as Bush's.

She's the one talking about policy differences and laying it out like it is. You obamarama's cant see the woods for the trees. just say anything to jump on hillary. whereas she's an amazing woman and one of the finest candidates to run for the office of POTUS

First of all, Sen. Obama never said McCain was Bush. What he has said time and time again is that McCain is running on a Bush platform, something I understand is a little too complicated for some of you to get. The other thing is that Sen. Clinton is the one who has praised McCain all along stating that he had crossed the commander and chief threshold and Sen. Obama had not. That McCain was qualified to lead and Sen. Obama was not. Sen. Clinton is one of the greatest hypocrites in modern political history! Now it seems she's obtained the endorsement of Richard M. Scaife, the Clinton's ultra right wing conservative nemesis of the '90's.

As Teejay commented, and Aston; this is a standard set of logical statements - standard academic comparisons. True statement.
For Clinton to give an "answer" or "explanation" just makes her look like a fool.
Good going Sen. Obama

I believe that America has passed a series of changes but never like the forthcoming one if Obama wins the presidency!

He is very intelligent, well balanced ideologically, full of passion to the under privileged social classes which ensures the American society of future equality, stability, unification and racial balances. He will therefore restore the long ruined America's image to the world including balanced policies to those societies which were seen as anti-Washington such as Cuba and others. This will bridge the gaps for more stable world orders and poverty eradication to the 'isolated' countries.

THE ENEMY OF CHANGE IN AMERICA IS CLINTON, she had so long been 'out of touch', remember Wall Mart deals. She is now just jealous, divisive, negative and never constructive to the Democratic Party and the America at large.

Congrats to ABC. Again showing your leaning towards the Clinton campaign. Remember not long ago when Hillary made the statement that both herself and McCain were qualified to be CIC, but Obama had only given one speech? Now, if that's not giving kudos to McCain, what is? And now you're going after Obama on this? Come on.

I thought Hillary Clinton was John McCain's biggest fan? I thought he was qualified to President like her, but Obama just had a speech? What happened? Oh yeah, I forgot . . . she doesn't believe any of the crap the pops out of her mouth.

To Tim up above about Democrats being socialist. I don't think you know what a real socialist is. It is where the government subsidizes private companies, like Bear Stearns and Archer Daniels Midland, which has a division that goes after the government dole. These are Rupublican policies and they are socialism. All the Democrats do is go behind the Republicans and try to undo all the damage that they have done to the American people by stuffing their pockets with government money that was mainly paid by working people. On top of that Republicans keep taking benefits away from the American worker that is part of their pay such as providing health insurance at work, Social Security, and Medicaid, not to mention all the other benefits they are trying to take from Americans. Right now they have taken so much that many people will lose their homes. This is socialism. Look who started the largest bureaucracy since World War 2 in the form of a Security agency thats primary job is to keep watch on the American people. This is socialism, if not totalitarianistic. Not only is it ineffiecient and suppresive, but for a Republican to grow government at that kind of rate makes him a socialist. To invade another country on false pretenses (WMD) is socialist. We are going to make them believe in the way that we do, which is socialistic. Controlling the world economy with the WTO to protect rich mens interests which starves millions in Africa is socialist. Of course, this sort of fabianism, or creeping socialism doesn't take into account what happens to the individual when their incentive is taken away. The same thing that happened to Soviet Russia with the people not supporting that type of system anymore. So I am glad to hear Hillary stand up for the American people and not stand up for socialist policies of a corrupt political party.

I really don't understand all the fuss about the ABC debate moderators, since they were asking EXACTLY the questions that I would want Obama to answer. Obviously, Obama didn't have good answers for them, got agitated and turned the table to ACCUSE someone else of staying on issues. But hey, those are THE issues that he needs to explain at this moment. As we have always known it, Obama is better when he's shouting to a crowd who have the only ability of chanting HIS words, rather than ASKING him questions. Apparently Bush is not the only one who doesn't function well when he doesn't have a script in front of him. SHAME ON OBAMA.

More Hypocracy from the Liar
who has put Pinnochio to Shame:
Clinton also said she and likely Republican nominee Sen. John McCain both had experience to put forth, but Obama only had a speech.

"Now I think you will be able to imagine many things Sen. McCain will be able to say. He has never been the president. He will put forth his experience. I will put forth my experience. Sen. Obama will put forth a speech he made in 2002."

When Clinton was asked if she could name one instance where she had to make a critical decision like the one she references in the "It's 3 a.m." ad that began airing this week she said the question was framed incorrectly.

"No one who hasn’t been president has done that. That’s not the right question," she said. "The question is what have you done over the course of a lifetime to equip you for that moment. Now I think you will be able to imagine many things Sen. McCain will be able to say. He has never been the president. He will put forth his experience. I will put forth my experience. Sen. Obama will put forth a speech he made in 2002."

jb*"So Hillary says both her and John McCain will bring a wealth of experience to the White House and Obama will bring nothing. That's not cheering on McCain? " No, HRC is stating a fact in the General Election. McCain has a record, a standard by which the Republicans will elect him under. Obama has not record which will stand against McCain. Clinton does have a record that can stand against him. It is not Military but it is Armed Forces Security whereas Obama did not even hold a single hearing while he has been the Chair of a Nato Subcommittee. He gets he data and info second hand. That makes Obama a National Security Risk.

Hillary sounds like Doc Holiday in the movie Tombstone..."It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds"

Read the whole story before judging. I am sick of these so called experts only reading excerps and making a judgement.

What he meant was that in terms of his senate record he is better than Bush. Obama was the first one to claim that a mandate for Mccain would be a continuation of the Bush's politics because McCain has opted to follow the same economic and national security plans as BUsh. Fair?
