Obama Strikes Fundraising Deal with D.N.C.
April 25, 2008 1:56 PM
ABC News' Teddy Davis Reports: To help boost the Democratic Party's coffers, Sen. Barack Obama's, D-Ill., campaign and the Democratic National Committee (D.N.C.) are establishing a “joint fundraising agreement" which can raise up to $28,500 from individuals, most of which would go to the DNC.
"In regards to the D.N.C. and the joint fundraising agreement, it is something that we are moving forward with," said Obama deputy campaign manager Steve Hildebrand on a Friday conference call with reporters. "As we understand it, the D.N.C. has initiated those conversations with the Clinton campaign as well."
Hildebrand made his comments when asked about a report appearing on "The Page," the Time.com political website powered by Mark Halperin, Randy James, and Katie Rooney.
An adviser to Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., tells ABC News that the D.N.C. and the Clinton campaign have discussed a joint fundraising agreement.
The Clinton adviser notes, however, that the D.N.C. is further down the road with Obama.
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the presumptive Republican nominee for president, has already formed such an alliance with the Republican National Committee (R.N.C.).
The McCain-RNC committee -- called Victory -- was created in March after the Arizona senator secured the GOP presidential nod.

Obama wants to cozy up to the DNC and his pal, Howie "the scream" Dean. Perhaps he can buy a superdelegate or two in the process.

Dean betta be Careful if he's thinking about doin so Co-Fund Raising with Hills. As broke as she is, she may try to pick his pockets.

Also, Obama's campaign is going to have a conference call to unveil their MASSIVE voter registration drive that they will be implementing.

Obama thinks he can buy the election? he can buy the nomination, but the DNC will pay, and pay big for it.

DNC support and superdelegates--bought and paid for by Obama.

Poor ol TomDavie. Hills herself has said there ain't much difference in her positions from Obama's positions. She's even said that it would be foolish to vote for McCain instead of the Dem Nominee.
Fact O the Matter is that Hillary lost the campaign in February. She was out worked and out planned.

WOW, what is he doing buying the nomination now? This should sure make a lot of democrats think, it will not be their votes that will count anymore, it will be how much money Obama has to give the DNC.

I have no problem once the DNC has a nominee of them having some kind of fund agreement, but at this stage it sure does not look fair to Hillary, am sure if this was done to Obama the talk would be Hillary is buying the nomination.
This stinks and democrats should not go for this it look rather underhanded, and make a mockery of the election process.

Just saw one of the Clinton "Hillraisers" who raised more than a half million has publicly defected to Obama. The reason he cited was concern over the Clinton campaign's tone, and the effect on the party it could have in the fall.
Posted by: Paul | Apr 25, 2008 3:15:22 PM
Hey guys , they are talking to Hillary also but it take a little longer with her. She has a hard time compromising...

SJ - the nomination process is distinct from the election process. All of these primaries and caucuses are internal events, and not subject to many public laws outside of FEC finance regulations. Any party could, as they all once did, simply get a group of insiders together in a smoke filled room, and pick a candidate out of a hat.
That said, the nomination process is practically over, and has been since the Virginia primary. I believe that's where Obama all but nailed it down; others believe it was in Wisconsin.
This is based on the view that it would take a bizarre series of events under which super delegates could collectively pick someone other than the leader in pledged delegates and not tear the party apart.
Regarding fundraising cooperation, the DNC recognizes the advantages the GOP enjoys by having a presumptive nominee, and thus tried to establish these agreements with both the Obama and Clinton campaigns. If I'm reading between the lines correctly, the Obama campaign was able to respond more efficiently to set something up.

hillpac baby hillary has been doing it for years.... the democratic party is no different than any other club they raise money from with in for the party... how did i know some people would act like this is some new conspiracy that is being done and push it on obama as being crooked...

Does anyone else just fly by the long cut and paste posts submitted by Hillary fans? They are all the same and usually always full of misspelled words. And, I have to say, always full of Black Black Black Black! It's like a contest to see how many times Black and Racist can be put in a post. I am a middle aged white woman and I assure you I vote for Obama because I listened to his ideas. I checked his background and I am smart enough to know guilt by association only works if the guy took millions from them like both Clintons have and do. To have her brothers be paid for Bill Clinton to pardon 2 convicted Weathermen (women) and then have the nerve to try to smear Obama with working in a nonprofit board advisory position with Avery is the exact things that makes her unelectable. If you listen to any of her speeches now if she isn't slamming Obama she is saying the exact thing he said first. SHAME on Hillary for putting us through this. Her lies sunk her. Not Obama, the media, or blacks. She did it to herself.

There's never been any love lost between the Clintons and official Washington. The Georgetown dinner parties they rarely attended during the Bill years might as well be in Outer Mongolia for all President Hillary will care. Notables who abandoned her for Obama will get the Big Chill. "He's dead to us," a Clinton aide was quoted saying of John Kerry, who along with Ted Kennedy was turned off by the perception of race baiting that led up to the South Carolina primary. A major donor, conflicted between the two candidates and apologetic over his backing of Obama, found Hillary less than sympathetic. "Too bad for you, because I'm going to win," she snapped
Posted by: melissa | Apr 25, 2008 4:27:12 PM
i think this is why super delegates are worried about jumping on the obama boat too soon, if she does manage to take the white house they will have to pay for backing him!!!
Posted by: melissa | Apr 25, 2008 4:28:52 PM
Now Obama will try to buy off the DNC with donor money. But I still wonder were all that money really come from. What happen to the pledge Obama sign with McCain to only take federal campaign money if he is the nominee?

Is the DNC broke or what no funds from long time democrats.

Mrs. Clinton has no chance left to become the nominee for the Democratic party. All that she and her supporters are now doing are dividing the party and handing the nomination to the Republicans. If she were not selfish, she would withdraw.

Considering that the DNC has only 5 million to the RNC 31 million. Obama is making the point that he can lead the party forward. Clinton being broke can't do much. What is cute is a major fund raiser for the Clinton Campaign switched to the Obama Campaign today.
Obama also announced a 50 state voter registration Campaign for the GE.
