Obama's Shot at Clinton's Shot
April 14, 2008 11:11 AM
ABC News' David Wright, Andy Fies and Sunlen Miller Report: At a morning event in Pittsburgh, Sen. Obama directed a new line of attack at his Democratic rival Sen. Hillary Clinton in the fallout surrounding recent remarks where he cast small town voters as "bitter".
Without mention any candidate by name, Obama said "Around election time, the candidates they just can't do enough. They'll promise you anything, they’ll give you a long list of proposals. They'll even come around, with TV crews in tow and throw back a shot and a beer." (On Saturday, Clinton had a beer and did a shot of whiskey at Bronko's Restaurant in Indiana.)
Obama himself is not innocent of lugging around a TV crew to film him enjoying a beer – on March 28th in Latrobe, Pennsylvania Obama and Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey toasted over Yuenglings at Sharky’s Café - with pool of TV cameras in tow.
At the event, where Obama addressed the Alliance for American Manufacturers and emphasized his work with local steel plants as a community organizer in Chicago early on in his career, Obama again admitted his poor choice of words remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser last week but turned the argument around on his two opponents, charging McCain and Clinton with questioning his respect for the workers of Pennsylvania.
"They're saying that I'm "out of touch",I'm an "elitist" because I said a lot of folks are bitter about their economic circumstances," Obama said, "When I hear my opponents, both of whom have spent decades in Washington, saying I'm out of touch, it's time to cut through the rhetoric and look at the reality."
Obama emphasized his opposition to NAFTA and CAFTA in front of the union crowd, and again pointed out Clinton's changing position in addition to her top strategist Mark Penn's meeting with the Columbian government.
"You can have a debate about whether my position is right or wrong. But here's what you can't do. You can't spend the better part of two decades campaigning for NAFTA and PNTR for China, and then come here to Pennsylvania, and tell the steelworkers you've been with them all along," Obama said. "You can't say you are opposed to the Colombia Trade deal, while your key strategist is working for the Colombian government to get the deal passed."
Senator Clinton is also slated to address the group this morning as well.

At least Clinton's attack was based on an issue -- What Obama really thinks about rural America.
Obama's attack however, was his typical mudslinging.
Can't this empty suit ever get down to real issues and solutions? Apparently not!

Obama is communicating a clear understanding to what needs to be done as a President, to restore peoples trust in future.
Contrary, Hillary looks her life as series of battles. Fighting battle after battle!

To jfffnn.....About Rev. Wright.....Obama, stated last night in the forum, that he was a Christian, but he also stated that he believes in evolution.....thats a double standard. If you are a Christian, you believe in Creationism, not evolution. God made Adam and Eve, and we didn't come from apes. Also, as Christians, we believe the pastor or "Shepherd" is over the "flock" or congregation. Sheep obey the shepherd, and listens to his callings. Rev. Wright will ALWAYS be a part of Obama's campaign for this reason...Obama can't escape it. He claims to be a Christian, however, another double standard, he doesnt uphold his pastor or his teachings. So, why stay in the church for 20 years. He contradicts himself over and over again. The true Obama is beginning to surface and he doesnt look good to America. I don't see him becoming the Democratic nominee, he and his campaign are imploding.

Obama just does not get it, it's not the bitter part, it's the clinging to guns and religion etc part. It is as if he's looking down on small towns that he's having trouble connecting to and calling them gun toting, God loving signle minded bigots. Now he can attack Sen Clinton all he wants to try to take the media off him but he still needs to explain himself. People do not turn to God because they're bitter, they embrace the message and word of Christ and their religion, was he bitter when he decided to join his church?

Travel the world and you may quickly conclude...Americans are some of the most ill-educated folks on the planet..Obama eliteist? Maybe he simply right. But that's ok ...the Dems will yet put fossil McCain (Victory in Vietnam guy) in the White House.

Once again Obama thinks he is so smart that he can just talk about anything to distract from the fact that he is out of touch with the rest of America! This effort to talk about Hillary and guns as a distraction from what he said you got to do better than that, I guess life for Obama was really hard growing up in Hawaii were most people spend there life time wanting to go there. It’s like he had it so hard, give me a break, how many people grow up in Hawaii and have it so bad that they go on to receive there PHD I feel so sorry for Obama. I grew up in a single parent home and I never did drugs, but I have been threw hard times and I can relate to the people in PA. I always depend on God to get me threw life. Who does Obama depend on or should I say what does he cling to you know since he had it so bad that he chose to try drugs? Oh I almost forgot that was just bad judgment when he was going threw bad times! Bottom line up front you made a mistake by talking down to people tell them your sorry and move on!

dl - I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with you!!! The Clintons and McCains are the ones with 100s of millions of dollars. Clinton owes her soul to corporations and other big money -- who do you really think she is going to fight for?
Obama is the one that has fought for transparency, was against the war from the beginning, and TRULY CARES about US.
Wake up People!
WE ARE THE CHANGE WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!
OBAMA '08!!!

It is the anti-NAFTA and anti-trade position that he touted to the rural voters in Ohio and PA that Mr. Obama revealed that was not not quite for in his remarks to the SF left-wingers. This man is as deceptive, if not more, as Mrs. Clinton. Of course, we are stuck with one of these two. Who would want more of Bush administration.
My greatest fear is not that the candidates want to personally benefit from the power of the Oval office but does one have a secret agenda favoring other countries, that have engaged in terror, and governments in other continents, which have been held by near-autocratic regimes even after foreign occupation was long gone.
This is the ultimate choice that we may have to face.

Everything, every word, every gesture of Hillary Clinton is scripted. I am beginning to think she is just a hologram projected onto a big screen at every political event. Wow! That would be great if she were not even REAL!
The woman is a beast. She tries to take every comment Barack Obama makes and place it in a context of her own choosing -like forcing a square peg in a round hole. Why or how ANY person can "buy" her baloney is beyond me.
Obama is not elitist at all. He is the only THINKING and truly intelligent candidate still in the race.
Go away, Hillary, and take that senile husband with you. Maybe take a trip to a motel in job-stripped PA and sip a few beers and talk about how you are just one of "the little people".

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!
Clinton's questioning of Obama's true feelings about rural America is indeed a question that needs to be asked.
What did Obama do? As usual, he resorts to mudslinging and completely ignores the charge.
He's good at fluffing away his weaknesses. He's also good at avoiding the issues. He preaches hope but never delivers.

Obama is an arrogant elitist who only cares about himself and 'his' kind.
San Francisco is an American city where all illegal immigrants are welcomed and protected. The wealthy, elite hire them and make sure they get free medical care, free food, free education, etc. They work (don’t pay taxes) and send their money to their homeland. Obama supports this! He is an arrogant snob.
His comments in San Fran about “bitter” Americans living in small towns remind me of Kerry’s famous comment: “if you don’t get an education you could end up in Iraq.”
It’s like Obama's “typical white grandmother comment”. Remember how he compared his “white grandmother” to “Jeremiah Wright”, so he didn’t have to apologize for Wright’s radical remarks in a church of God?
Hillary shows strength and a knowledge to fight for ALL Americans.
NO OBAMA --- HILLARY 2008!

McCain would rather Hillary Clinton were the nominee? And we're supposed to pick Hillary because of that?? This is all getting too bizarre for words.

I find it HILARIOUS that anyone calls Barack Obama an elitist. A lack of humility is more what it means than being "rich" and in no way, throughout this entire election has he appeared this way to me. He is more humble than ANYONE, ever, that has run for President. That's why this is so laughable! And for HRC to say so makes it even more funny. She's like the #1 elitist in the nation right now.

The Media has no intention of placing Obama in a bad light. He referred to Hillary Clinton as Annie Oakly during a rally. Now I dont find this upsetting, but If Clinton referred to OBama as - let's say the Lone Ranger - the US Media would have it on ever cover, news station.

Obama bowls a 37, drinks a beer with his new best friend, and suddenly get religous about nafta, while saying clinton is pandering. His new type of politics is sounding like the old type of politics.
Isn't it funny when the press sees clinotn making disticntions between her and obama, she is gong negative. When Obama does it, he is responding.

Obama will give us another landmark speech about "BITTER SMALL-TOWN AMERICANS" --- just like he gave us all that B.S. in his "RACE RELATIONS SPEECH" but, like Jeremiah Wright and his "God Damn America" rant --- this one will not go away!
How many times will he restate his comments until he gets it "just right?" Come on! Obama's elitist feelings are shining all around and come out when he doesn't have a script.
Wake up America before it's too late!

Lovely Hillary.
You have done an excellent job at causing a huge fight between the supporters and dragging in the Repugs too.
Wow what a woman.
Look, Hillary is not a candidate that can unify or accomplish anything.
She is a destroyer.
With her at the helm of the democratic party I'd lean Nader.
Its Obama or I don't vote democrat.
Obama we know what you mean by bitter. I'm bitter, bitter that this horrible monster of a candidate Hillary Clinton can treat the democratic process this way.
Posted by: Anna | Apr 14, 2008 11:51:42 AM
ummm, are Obama supporters actually saying when Obama had a beer it was "casual", but with Hillary it was "staged?" COME ON! This is out of control dissonance. The whole world was watching when Obama bowled a 37. His mocking is plain hypocritical, so stop defending EVERY SINGLE thing he exclaims; its how Bush supporters were back 8 years ago, and its such a disturbing pattern. We do not have to LOVE our politicans and defend every little thing they do; we don't actually know them personally, in case you forgot.

"You know, he [Bush] wants to divide us over race. I'm from the South. I understand this. This quota deal they're gonna pull in the next election is the same old scam they've been pulling on us for decade after decade after decade. When their economic policies fail, when the country's coming apart rather than coming together, what do they do? They find the most economically insecure white men and scare the living daylights out of them. They know if they can keep us looking at each other across a racial divide, if I can look at Bobby Rush and think, Bobby wants my job, my promotion, then neither of us can look at George Bush and say, 'What happened to everybody's job? What happened to everybody's income? What ... have ... you ... done ... to ... our ... country?'"
Quote by Bill Clinton
Sept. 1991
The LA Times
The Clintons are hypocrites. They will say anything when it's convenient. They will do anything to win including sell out the American public. By Wednesday, this will be old news. New news, Bill Clinton supporting oppression of Tibetan people by Working for Chinese Government. Obama is being supported by small town mayors all over PA. Check the blogs if you don't believe me. This will help in PA. My cousin lives in State College, PA and she told me that Hillary Clinton isn't telling the truth about how angry small town people are. Obama gets it and she is changing her vote.
