Rice Shoots Down VP Rumors

ABC News Kirit Radia Reports: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice poured cold water on rumors that she was angling for the vice presidential spot on presumptive Republican nominee John McCain's White House bid.

"I do not want to be, don't intend to be, won't be on his ticket," she told the Associated Press in an interview in Alabama today where she received an honorary degree from Air University at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base.

"It's time for me to do something else," she added, saying she would return to Stanford University after the Bush administration leaves office next January.

Rice praised Sen. McCain, of Arizonia, as "an amazing man" with "great intellect" but said the last time she spoke with him was last month after his passport file had been breached.

Speculation that Rice was lobbying for the VP job swirled after Republican strategist Dan Senor said on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos that "Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this."

It was later revealed that Rice delivered a speech to an influential conservative group and separately addressed other issues such as race that are typically beyond her foreign policy portfolio as Secretary of State. Her spokesman consistently denied she would do anything other than return to teaching.

Rice did, however, leave the door open to eventually returning to public life. In the past Rice's name has been floated as a possible candidate for political positions in California.

"We'll see in a few year's what I do. But I -- this is not the time for me," she told the AP.

I love all the liberal comments. Just shows how educated and knowledgeable the liberal are. They live in a great nation. Their imagination.

Rice would not have helped that ticket with the African American vote. Please believe that the vast majority of African Americans view Rice in much the same way that we view Clarence Thomas.

I would vote for Condoleeza over Barrack or Hillary.

Who does "project" their middle name? Oh wait, let me guess, you think Rodham in Hillary's middle name don't you?

Please don't baffle us with intelligence..........

Rice was useless as a Secretary, but great as a "yes man". She will stand by her man (Bush) whether he is right or wrong. I have no respect for her.

Rice will be lucky if she can stay out of the international court for war crimes. She chaired the torture meetings. Incompetent and immoral -- quite the albatross around McCain's neck.

Is Rice still "doing" Bush??? She made a comment one time she wished he was her husband. Bush is probably that hard up to.

D*mn! I wanted Rice to run so bad. Not because I'm a supporter but because I'm a Democrat and nothing would have destroyed McCain more than Miss Victory Accomplished on the ticket.

I am sure that Condi knows the difference.

I certainly hope that he would not add Rice in hopes of securing more of the African American vote. The vast majority of African Americans view Rice in much the same way that we view Clarence Thomas. If you do not understand, just know that most African Americans feel that Thurgood Marshall was the first and only African American to have served on the Supreme Court.

All this woman has done is support this complete failure of an administration. I cannot see that she has done anything of any value for the American people. Actually, it was she who ignored warnings from the Clinton administration about Osama bin Laden and Al Quaida prior to 9/11. Best thing she could do is to hide for a while so people forget her.

You have got to be kidding! This entire election is turning into a who's got the best excuse for "what we can't get anything done candidate." As we watch our nation go down in flames all we are offered are people who have done nothing except contribute to the sorry mess. The hope and dreams of a lot of Americans are on the line as the dark days of recession and inflation slowly rise from a long forgotten grave. We need some real leadership that can help put America on the cutting edge in the world. Remember that phrase, "Preparing Americans to compete in a Global Market?" Where are we today? We had better start asking the right questions and very soon!
