Bill Clinton Asks N.C. Churchgoers to Pray for Hillary
May 04, 2008 2:28 PM
ABC News' Sarah Amos reports: Former President Bill Clinton spent time in two western North Carolina churches this morning, speaking more from his heart than any sort of political handbook.
"I didn't come here to ask you to vote for my wife," said Clinton, addressing the congregation at Church of the Pentacostal in Asheville, N.C. "I came here to ask you to pray for her. And to vote. Do whatever you want. Show up. Our country is in dire distress.
"I just want you to pray for her and to make your voices heard," he added. "Do whatever you think is right. But don't sit this out, because we are being called upon to return to our true purpose."
Clinton spoke of his long relationship with the Pentacostal church, thanking them for all the support they have given him over the years.
The small but enthusiastic congregation, whose church is nestled between the mountains of Asheville, listened attentively as Clinton told stories of his relationship with the church over the years. Clinton even spoke about how Barbara Streisand was inspired to record her first spirtual album after listening to a Pentacostal singer who performed at Clinton's mother's funeral.
As Clinton wrapped up his remarks, he came back to Tuesday's election and the emotions that come with it.
"You know, we get close to these elections, the tensions are up, the temperature is up," he said. "We're all liable to say something we shouldn't say. We're all feeling things we shouldn't feel. So it is a very good thing for be here."
Clinton also visted Biltmore Baptist Church in Arden, N.C., but did not address the congregation.
While Clinton's morning was leisurely, the rest of his time in North Carolina will be anything but. The former president has 15 campaign events planned for the next two days, crossing the state in the process. By Tuesday, Clinton will have held over 50 events in the state -- many of them on the front porches, train stations and baseball diamonds that pepper the small towns of North Carolina.

I'll take the Clintons anyday over all the others. The Clinton years were prosperous and they left us a huge surplus. Obama couldnt ever come close to doing and caring for America like the Clintons did, he can only talk. God help us if he is elected and his true intentions come out.

@Jimbo,
Well said. I agree with you.
Even now, Mr Clinton are still working on Humanitarian works for Katrina victims and African children.

So sad....I feel Americans will burn down Americans before a more than qualified person (Senator Obama) be elected president...so so so sad.

Virginia,
I do the same.

Harlan,
Your comments says more about you then they do about Barack. My hope is that you get some help before that venom that is circulating in you moves from politics and starts effecting other areas of your life. You clearly are a very angry, hateful, misguided person.
I think we all should probably say a prayer for you and hope we don't read about you or see you on the news for commiting some type of mass crime against humanity.

All the Hillary's supporters that have spoken so far are illiterates and they need prayers cos they are dieing in poverty while the Clintons are making $105M USD.

Rick, I guess the truth about Obama is very distressing to hear. Hear no evil, Speak no evil, see no evil. The new motto of the Obama supporters.

I am sure Rev. Jeremiah Wright is praying for her.

Della, what in Obama's resume makes him qualified to be President? Obama has a very scant background as a junior senator and has not reached across the aisle to work with any GOP Senator on any major legislation. So his mantra of "hope" and "change" are just a bunch of empty words. If Obama was anyone else, his long time and deep associations with the corrupt Tony Rezko, the racist Jeremiah Wright, the terrorist group Hamas, or the unrepentant bomber, William Ayers, would have meant the end of his run for President by now. So again, what makes you think Obama has any qualifications to be President? Please name just one that has any substance.

You are really a blue Irish! how many times have you confronted your pastor? thats if you even go to church, why are you using peter to pay paul?
This comment was made by Rev. Wright and not Obama, mind you there are more than 5,000 people in that church, perhaps you people should go and accuse them too.
Well i can see you people are bound to fail, you guys are in love with failure, keep supporting Hillary, just watch she'll bow out on tuesday.
Posted by: Cole | May 4, 2008 5:40:39 PM
I want to pray for Obama too...so should I pray to Allah?...somebody help me out here....
Posted by: Henry | May 4, 2008 5:42:01 PM
Cole,
I have read all you've written on this blog, you are the only one with correct senses here, perhaps if you check those supporting Hillary here, they fall into the category of people the media describes as less educated people that votes for Hillary.
Just leave them illiterates are difficult to convince, they'll cry later.

Tom,
Its ignorant rantings like yours that has kept America stuck on stupid. Its this type of mental reasoning that helped created the Electorial college vote and made it seem like a good idea, because they didn't really trust Americans (or Americans like you) to have enough sense to make a choice by popular vote. When people read your childish display of imuturity and your gross lack of understanding about the issues along with rantings that only make YOU look like a fool, they wonder if the creators of the electorial college just might have been on to something. But you know what I find sad? You are probably one of the people whom Baracks vision, strategic plan for America would help the most...but you are too filled with un reasonable fear to catch the moment (reminds me of the many people during MLK's life and Nelson Medella's life that missed the work of God because they were too busy with their own agenda.) What a shame, America could have used your energy to bring about real change....not just another campaign season full of promises upon promises, only to be forgotten about once they have used you for your vote.

GAWANIA,
wow, I sense some hostility in the tone of your pro-Obama post....am I right?
Posted by: Henry | May 4, 2008 5:52:38 PM
This North Carolina-Indiana duel looks like it will end in a draw, with no movement in the delegate count.
If so, what happens next? Where will the superdelegates go?

Let me ask a question of the Hillary hating people here...Do you hate Hillary for her political platform and policies or do you hate her because she is competition to Obama and poses a serious threat to his nomination?...or maybe for some other reason?....let me know...thanks.
Posted by: Henry | May 4, 2008 5:57:21 PM
Bill and Hillary are a disgusting 2 people. They will stoop to just about anything. pray for Hillary is a joke. If the people of north carolina are so gullible and stupid to vote for that liar then I don't know what this country is coming to. That goes for Penn and Ohio. If Obama doesn't win N.C. then I will say there was voter fraud. Harold Ickes will not stop at anything either. Dirty politics

What a wonderful gift it would be if somehow Hillary pulled out NC. We can pray, and thank god the Nomination process wasn't halted like the obama supporters wanted. 20 point lead outspending Hillary 3 to 4 times to 1 in NC. If she pulls this out she is the comeback kid. It might also say Americans don't like candidates of little substance who attempt to buy nominations. uh uh uh uh uh get out there and sell hope and change obamaites, the day of reckoning is approaching. Hillary Clinton '08

Goerge was one of the moderators of the ABC "debate" shambles. Now Hilary goes on his show and talks about how she spoke with him about NAFTA. Is it me or does anyone else see that the so called debate was nothing but a hatchet job.
Amazing how some think being the wife of a president is a job. How does that make you experienced. That means Shaq's wife should be able to dunk a basketball. Such inane idiocy is why some people can not see behind the veil of the Clinton hatchet machine.
Since when did one become their pastor. That argument is tantamount to saying that if you are caucasian and your father used the "N" word twenty years ago, then you must be a racist.
Wake up people, there is more at stake.
