Bill Clinton: 'It'd Be a Shame to Do All This Work and Not Win'

ABC News’ Sarah Amos reports: As Bill Clinton continues on what will be his final primary tour of Indiana, he is connecting with small towns across the state, making the argument that his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), is the best Democratic candidate come November.

"She can win this thing,” Clinton told a gymnasium full of Hoosiers in Greenfield late this afternoon. “The last national poll had her running nine points ahead of senator McCain, seven points better than her opponent in the primary. A lot of polls have her winning and him [Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.)] losing. She runs better in Florida, better in Ohio, better in Pennsylvania, better in West Virginia, better in Arkansas, better in Kentucky and better in Missouri. If we win those votes, this election won't be close. It'd be a shame to do all this work and not win.

"The only way she can win is if Indiana says yes to her. If you say yes to her she can win," the former president added.

Bill Clinton went on to use a bit of history, reminding the crowd that the states his wife has won are many of the same states he carried in his re-election campaign.

"But if she wins the popular vote, and she's already gonna win two thirds of the electoral votes that I won in 1996, she can be elected president, and we can change this country."

President Clinton:

For some reason, the DNC and quite a few Democrats are obviously jealous of Hillary's and your popularity and success among voters.

Regardless of whether Hillary is declared the nominee in November, your work will not be in vain.

Democratic voters are just beginning to understand the damage that an Obama presidency could do.

Thankfully, the convention is about three months away and the national election is still about six months away.

That is plenty of time for the real Obama to emerge... and be defeated.

By the way...thanks.

Senator Clinton is enjoying a temporary bump in the polls, but her support of the "gas tax holiday" and shipping jobs to China will come back to bite her!

I predict a small Clinton Win or a small Obama win in Indiana, and a 9-12 point victory for Obama in North Carolina. Should Obama sweep, Hillabeans will almost certainly be forced to drop out by falling donations and a tide of supers to Obama's side.

Obama 2008 -- Yes, WE CAN!!!!

Since when has the will of the voters ever mattered. Come on Hilliary and Bill save us from ourselves! After all we've only had a Clinton or a Bush in Pres. or VP since 1980. Who needs democracy, when you can have a de facto monarchy. 28 years deserves another 4 to 8, right. I mean it's not like anybody else in the whole country knows better than Bush or Clinton, right. Surely 28 years of being the establishment has done great things for the US. Being with the loss of jobs, globalisation, and eroding borders. And financing our ever increasing empire overseas with unlimited wars. Why spend those dollars at home and rebuild our economy when we can subsidze corrupt regimes overseas, allowing their people to plot and carry out attacks back here as revenge for our support of their oppressors. How foolish of we to want to rebuild our own country and mind our own business. Don't forget the canidates REAL slogan:"WAR IS PEACE... FREEDOM IS SLAVERY... IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH... Just keep on repeating...

Notice, back before PA, the talking heads on TV were all calling IN the tiebreaker, as the expected Hillary to take PA and Barak to take NC. Now that Barak is in trouble in IN.. and maybe in NC too, the talking heads are doing the same thing as they did before PA.. try to come up with some arbitrary number that Hillary has to "beat" Obama by in order to "stay in the race". LOL. And they accuse her of moving goal posts.

Hillary and Bill-keep on doing what you do. We LOVE you and know you'll lead the country in the right direction.

Looking forward to Madame President.

We appreciate everything you are doing Hillary and Bill! Let's see, in the last few days Obama woke up after a 20 year slumber in his racist, ranting, very loud church and realized that his beloved spiritual mentor and advisor is a racist. That would be enough to get any regular candidate to leave the race, but messiah Obama walks on water and the DNC is now the ONC - Obama National Committee. It must be a huge gravy train Obama is running. Let's see where we are, shall we? In the last few days, they've called a voter registration effort by a well-known bipartisan group voter suppression, circulated a petition trying to split the party along racial lines, and are now pushing a doctored video clip. What will Obama's campaign resort to tomorrow? Another day of Hope and Change! Welcome to Obama's Washington.

Hillary 08!

Bill has to understand that America needs a new leadership farway from the old politics. He can cry, scream and be ashamed, but there is no way to go back in the 1990s. Hill the Bosnian General is unelectable. God bless America and God bless Obama.OBAMA08.

earl -- the wright thing was totally staged ... he did his thing, Obama got to denounce him just in time...and the exit stage left. If he was really trying to "bring him down" he would still be talking ...yet here we are days later and no response from the spurned Rev Wright....

what a sham ....

Im so proud now! I think shes so wonderful and so smart and she
has so much quiet strength! I predict that if she becomes the president
of the united states, she will be a forever beloved figure. People will
love her so much, that they will have to hire people just to clean up
all the tons of roses and flowers that will be thrown at her feet!

smiley, most people know who they will vote for and have already judged the canidates.

Senator Clinton is enjoying a permanent lead in the polls, her support of the "gas tax holiday" and creating jobs
will help her even further.

I predict a ***blowout*** Clinton Win in Indiana, and a 9-12 point victory for Clinton in North Carolina. Should Clinton sweep, Obummers will almost certainly be forced to drop out by falling donations and a tide of supers to Clinton's's side.

Hillary 2008 -- Yes, WE WILL!!!!

Obama has to understand that America needs a new leadership farway from the old politics. He can cry, scream and be ashamed, but there is no way to go back to the 1960s. Hillary is on her way!!! God bless America and God bless
President Hillary Clinton!!!

Anybody inspired by Barack Obama's
empty filthy rhetoric??

Posted by: edith | May 2, 2008 8:53:13 PM

DMK, I would say half the country believes that. Most don't want to go back to the 90's and old politics. Most don't want the Bush and Clintons dynasties to continue. Here is Hillary pandering with this gas tax to get your vote, while Obama is telling us the truth about it. And he could even lose votes over this. That is new leadership caring more about the country than getting votes.

Frankly, belonging to a hate cult
for 20 years should disqualify
you from serving in office...

VERY GOOD POINT, Alice!:
"Frankly, belonging to a hate cult

Jeremiah Wright has pulled the wheels off of Obama's campaign bandwagon. Rookie U.S. Senator Obama should not have threw him under the bus after claiming that he could no more disown him than he could the black community and his own grandmother.
