Bill Clinton: Once Fla. and Mich. Are Counted, Neither Candidate Able to Get Majority From Pledged Delegates
May 24, 2008 5:21 PM
ABC News’ Sarah Amos reports: Former President Bill Clinton today continued to reiterate the importance of counting the votes in Florida and Michigan, saying that once they do "neither candidate can get a majority just from pledged delegates.”
Speaking to a crowd of more than 1,000 at Montana State University, Clinton enthusiastically took to the stage and began by asking the crowd, "Aren't you glad Montana matters?"
While the former president has been off the campaign trail for the past few days, Sen. Hillary Clinton has been forceful in her calls for all the votes in the two disputed states to be counted. Today, her husband continued that argument.
"The last three states have all been told they didn’t matter. But don’t you believe it,” he said, “because the Democratic Committee is meeting at the end of this month to resolve the status of Florida and Michigan and they'll have to do it, unless we just totally slip the gasket and want to go into a general election where Sen. McCain gets to run in 50 states and we run in 48. Once that happens, neither candidate can get a majority just from pledged delegates, so there will be a reassessment after you vote on June 3, along with South Dakota and Puerto Rico votes on June 1.
He continued, “So don’t let anybody tell you, you don’t matter, you do. And Hillary's position on this all along has simply been that we should all -- in a contest this close -- we should let everybody vote, let every vote be counted and have the people who hold the balance of power decide who would be the best president and who is the most likely to beat Sen. McCain. So you do matter," Clinton told the applauding crowd.
President Clinton has two more stops today in Montana before heading off to South Dakota for Sunday’s campaign events.

Poor Clinton needs to get a grip. It's over. Hillary's insensitive RFK statement means that she will no longer be considered a VP possibility.

And then we can have the convention fight they want. This is not something that the DNC wants, if he keeps it up you can bet that the Super delegates who now support Hillary will leave her campaign to avoid this confrontation.
These two sound upbeat about this, well shows you where they are comminmg from. Nothing to lose for them I guess. It is over for them either way so this is their goodbye.
Their political carrers are over.

ENOUGH! Superdelagates: time to end this.

Most MI voters thought this whole "deal" smelled of election rigging from the start.
Everyone KNEW that Clinton would "magically" get the votes counted, because she had the ticket all to herself.
AND the MI DNC told Dems to vote "uncommited" for Obama, Edwards, Biden and Richardson.
They are using us and our "rigged" election to get to the White House. I find it disgusting.

It doesn't matter, she can't win. They'll just have to learn to live under the same roof for once again; Right Bill? Hill?

Obama has to spend 4-5 times more than Hillary just to keep even with her. What does that tell you about his strength in November?
Ironically, he is already campaigning in Michigan and Florida for the general election - even though no one has won the nomination yet and he has blocked the Michigan and Florida revotes. What does that say?

Bill Clinton is still telling lies, big lies. I don't care how they spin it, they are through. It's been over for weeks now... Barack Obama has the Democratic nomination and they can't do anything about it........ But learn!

Still living in a world of unfounded assertions, I see. Ever heard of facts?

Whew! That was close!

WHY I REFUSE TO VOTE FOR OBAMA!
Lack of Experience: Since when does, “I have a Dream trump I have a Resume?” He has no foreign policy experience (and we have two wars going on), no national political experience. He’s running on “changing Washington politics” and as a junior senator probably doesn’t even have a key to the men’s room.
Arrogance and Elitism: The great orator spouts phrases like “typical white people” or “bitter folks that cling to guns and religion.” Only an arrogant politician can insult you and then inspire you to “do better”. He refers to professional women as “sweetie” , an inexcusable mistake that only my 85 year old grandfather might be allowed to get away with.
Race baiting: We are expected not to notice that Obama might just be the first African American president. We must not mention the fact that 92% of the Black vote is going to Mr. Obama or make notice of who is NOT voting for him. If you draw those distinctions then we are all racist people trying to sabotage the chances of making history. It’s a double bind. I can’t stand the pressure.
He’s not tough enough: I’m sorry, but he whines. Phrases like “Silly Season” are too weak and annoying. He also got his butt handed to him in over 20 debates. I was waiting for Hillary to pass him a tissue to wipe the tears away. “How dare she be so mean” “She’s running a negative campaign.” She didn’t run a negative campaign, he’s just weak. The issues of Wright, working class voters, his divide with women are all legitimate. These are his problems to own, not manufactured by the “Clinton Machine”.
Reverend Wright: It doesn’t meet the SMELL test. Obama can’t be talking about “uniting folks” and sitting in a segregated church for 20 years. It’s that simple for me. He seemed almost annoyed that anyone would question him. That grandiosity frightens me. We have lived through the personality disorders of Bush and Cheney for the last 8 years.
“Short cut” to The White House: Clinton is smarter, tougher and obviously better prepared for the job of president yet Obama passes through with a smile and a speech. The mainstream media has hijacked our democratic process by declaring Obama the winner and pushing him to the finish line before all of the votes have been counted or Michigan and Florida has been resolved.
Bottom Line: No Clinton/No Vote for Obama!

All you WHINNING Obama freaks! I love it. Your boy can not and will not steal this election. The Superdelegates WILL and SHOULD decide not the Media or the DNC. Get use to it!
Hillary 2008 or if not than McCain

Hillary would be a fool to be VP. She is head and shoulders above Obama in every aspect. She has the popular vote. The DNC wants to rob her of it. The only way I could accept it is if Obama is VP with Hillary running for President. Otherwie forget it!!! I would not vote for Obama as President. All he knows is Hope and Change and his voters nor Obama knows what that means. They are words he has borrowed from other candidates over the years. Castro was a convincing orator. Look what happened there. No Obama!!! Count the all the votes!!!

@MI Voter: for the past three months I've been on here writing as you have done. Those of us who live here knew the score and it's a shame we are being used as political pawns. I'm convinced that many of those complaining about counting our votes and pretending to care deeply about us don't even drive a car made by one of the Big 3.

Obama promised in "Sunshine" (sic) Florida that they would count. So Bill Clinton is merely calling Obama's bluff which the media refuses to do
Posted by: geevill | May 24, 2008 6:49:28 PM
By the way, those who say "count all the votes" come across as royal idiots when the new Clinton "math" involves not counting anyone in Michigan who voted 'uncommitted'. We made our own mess here and if you don't live in Michigan you should butt out.
And isn't it funny that when our own state leaders who made the mess come up with a proposal to solve the problem it is shot down by Clinton?
Posted by: MIguy | May 24, 2008 6:50:25 PM
Hillary's position is that every vote should be counted if she's losing and can somehow try to wrestle away the nomination. When she thought she would win she didn't care about FL or MI or anything after super Tuesday.

To A
I agree with you, it is so sad but so true!
Posted by: Matt | May 24, 2008 6:55:22 PM
Obama already has the majority of pledged delegates! Now Clinton wants to change the rules and take that away?!!! Whoa buddy boy, you're playing with real fire here. What city do you want the riots to start in?
Posted by: bob10001 | May 24, 2008 6:56:08 PM
To bob10001
Unless you have (at the moment-but may change) 2026 pledged delegates than YOU ARE NOT THE NOMINEE!Read the rules before you post. If no one gets 2026 pledged delegates than the Superdelegate pick who they feel at the time is the strongest to win in the general. You Obama suppoters twist everything to your liking. HE IS NOT THE NOMINEE.
Hillary 2008 but if not than McCain

WHAT THE MEDIA HAS DONE TO HILLARY IS A SHAME. I AM ASHAMED TO SAY I WATCH CABLE TV. EVEN TIM RUSSET WHO I USED TO RESPECT HAS GONE OFF THE DEEP.
THE ELECTION DIFFRENCE OF 100 DELEGATES AND YOU WOULD HAVE THOUGHT SHE WAS BEHIND 800 SIMILAR TO KENNEDY WAS WHEN HE WENT TO THE CONVENTION REMEBER THAT BUT HE WAS A MALE AND A KENNEDY SO THAT WAS OK.
SHAME ON THE CABLE MEDIA... SHAME ON YOU.
