Bush and Peres Caught Off-Cam: Let's Hear it for the Ladies
May 14, 2008 12:38 PM
ABC News' Jon Garcia Reports: On the first day of President Bush’s three day swing through Israel – ostensibly to salvage what’s left of his peace proposal – he and Israeli President Shimon Peres were caught off-camera, but on-mic, saying that two women, Secretary of State Condi Rice and Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, were actually the ones negotiating the peace process.
Peres: “I think this is the first time two ladies are negotiating peace. I can't recall any other situation with such a combination.”
Bush: “Men haven’t been able to get it done. Maybe they will.”
Peres: “The men are going down you know, in a very un-promising situation…We have to accommodate.”
Watch the exchange HERE.
The unpromising situation is especially “sharp and clear” in Lebanon and Gaza. Peres says Hezbollah is destroying Lebanon and that “today the real obstacle, when I consider everything else before creation of the ... declaration of a Palestinian state, is Hamas.”
Peres continued, “The Arab world will have to take a stand, not about the conflict between us and them, but about their own destiny, where are they moving.”
Bush had very little to say about Lebanon, Gaza or Hamas in his photo-op with Peres. He was sticking to his message of celebrating the 60th anniversary of Israel — and the country's role as a close ally in fighting all forms of terror.
But, later in the day, in a photo-op with embattled Israeli Prime Minister Olmert, Bush reiterated his disdain for the external threats to Israel: Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas. Olmert added that the rocket attacks from Gaza wouldn't be tolerated much longer. About the same time that Bush and Olmert were making their statements, a rocket launched from Gaza struck a shopping mall in the Israeli city of Ashkelo, with early accounts reporting injuries.
Earlier, at an airport arrival ceremony, Bush, Peres and Olmert stuck to the "close ally" theme, with Bush reaffirming the friendship of the two Democratic states. Peres said Israel, even through many wars, “never postponed democracy even for a single day,” and Olmert called Bush a “close partner.”

Wow, talk about misleading headlines. I thought Bush and Perez were caught on tape being derogatory to women. This was not the case and had little to do with most of this article. I don't know what the answer to peace in the middle east is. And I don't know of anyone else that does either. Its hard to negotiate between people that have blind hatred for one another. I hope the Ladies can get the peace negotiated.

Maybe that's why we need a woman president.

So what? is this a bad thing? Were they calling people bitter and clinging to guns and religion?

A tenacious, steel-backboned lady will scare the daylight out of the terrorists. Period.
Can you imagine their reaction if Hillary stares at them silently for 5 straight minutes without blinking???
She simply will not negotiate with the terrorists. No way!
But a slim, waffling gentleman will. He has said so himself many many times. He will sit down with not just anybody, but absolutely anybody who wants him to listen.
He thinks half of Americans are racist. So he will not talk to them. BUT he will talk to the terrorists! SEE! That is what his diplomacy is all about.

Gee, Bush commending two women negotiating and noone here has a good word to say about Bush? Just goes to show how implacable liberals are in their hatred of our twice elected leader. Pity they cannot fathon their own shortcomings and failings, but must ignore the successes and accommodations of Bush and hold EVERYthing *he* does in disdain.

I find it kinda funny that the party of diversity would never dream of such a thing and would be so quick to accuse the other for lack of diversity, while an African American woman is negotiating peace in the most difficult part of the world. You go Condi the makings of a real president!
