Clinton Argues That Obama Can't Beat McCain
May 18, 2008 10:38 PM
ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton held a fundraiser in Ft. Mitchell, Ky., tonight and went a bit further than she's gone before in explaining why she believes Sen. Barack Obama cannot win in the fall.
"We did not go through such a long and rigourous campaign to see four more years of Republican leadership in the White House," she said. "Senator [John] McCain will be a formidable candidate in states like Ohio and Kentucky and Pennsylvania -- states we've got to win. And so therefore I'm grateful for your help tonight, but let's stay with it, let's keep going, I believe we are going to prevail."
Clinton thanked the group for their fundraising efforts and then said, "It's embarassing how much money the two of us have raised. But it's so expensive to run such a vigorous contested election for as long as we have."
Clinton thanked them for continuing to take her message "on to Puerto Rico, Montana, South Dakota. Also making sure we seat Michigan and Florida."
Clinton said to the crowd, which included Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, that she "will continue to make the case to the superdelegates. ... My case can really be can boiled down to two simple propositions. I believe I will be the best president, and I believe I will be the stronger candidate to take on John McCain."
Clinton made the point, as she has frequently, that this contest is not over.
"This race is still too close to call," she said. "They're still coming around the home stretch. We do not have a nominee. What we have is a very close contest where I'm leading in the popular vote. Where my opponent has an advantage in the delegates. But where ultimately the decision must rest on who can win."
The fundraiser was held at the home of Nathan and Mary Lee Smith in their backyard in Ft Mitchell, Ky. Mary Lee Smith introduced Clinton and explained how her husband is a superdelegate and she has been fielding calls from Obama. She said she had been telling him her husband was with Bill and Chelsea Clinton when he called, but that he should call back.
Tonight when Obama called she said she told him, "he's in the back yard with Hillary, don't bother calling back."
Clinton pulled in $150,000 at the small 130-person fundraiser.

Reality of the situation? There's a very simple reality that these Clinton lovers who write these mile long blogs continue to ignore. She's not going to obtain 70% of the remaining delegates and super delegates. No miracle is going to occur which makes that happen. Delegates continue to flock to Obama even after Hillary's big West Virginia win.

Can both sides just relax?
Congratulations to Obama for a record crowd. It is truly awesome. I love the awesome excitement he has generated.
But lets not get carried away here. Portland is a city of roughly 75,000 people. So all the people arent Dem voters and I am sure there were Clinton supporters who came to watch history in the making. But nonetheless, it is a tremendous deal.
Also, Clinton has the right to make her case. Lets not be upset because she wants to go on. She believes in herself and the voting is not over and lets just wait it out.

Well Susan it's too bad the Hillary lovers are too blind to see the reality of what she's doing. It has nothing to do with thinking she can win. It has to do with the keep the appearance that she can win in order for the money to keep coming in.

obamaayers,
Is that all you Republicans have? Ha, ha!
Wait until the Dem 527's roll out the big guns this fall! Can you say "Keating 5" and a whole host of other Recent Lobbyist scandals, etc., etc??
Say hello to President Obama baby!!!!

I have a hunch that we're going to find out if Obama can beat McCain come next November...
I don't see the superdeligates being dumb enough to overthrow Obama for any reason at present because the party's largest block of voters, blacks, may very well decide to sit this election out and not vote. They don't have to vote for McCain; just not vote for the Democrat and McCain will win...
I still believe that Clinton is quite content to let McCain win this year and hope for a shot at defeating him in 2012. In spite of the egos of both she and her husband, I can't imagine that they are continuing to beat on the "Obama can't defeat McCain" drum at this point in time...

I AGREE WITH HILLARY.

PRESIDENT OBAMA WILL NEVER HAPPEN.

One Hillary supporter to another:
When our Hill eventually concedes (as she almost certainly will) and when she calls for us to support the party's nominee (as she most definitely will if defeated), will we then turn our backs on her call? Will we tell ourselves that she doesn't mean what she says and that she is just a pretender as some of her critics claim she is?
Are we driven by a love and respect for Hillary or by a blind and unholy hatred for a Black man?
Those who voted for Bush in the last two presidential elections can forgive themselves for not realising the tribulation their votes would bring. But there will be no excuse for those who will vote for more of the same just to satisfy their ill-feelings.
Life does not stand still or go backwards. Those who lack real honesty and the desire to embrace a positive future for all humankind will fade into extinction. Like the dinosaurs.

Clinton who?Grrrrr! The one who think that people who caucused for Obama where non-people and therefore in her illusions she is leading in her imaginary popular vote that in reality her former opponent(Obama) is leading in...

Very well stated Geeza!!!

Nah, Hillary Supporters will not vote for Obama because he is not qualified for the job of POTUS, period. Nothing more, nothing less. If Hillary does not get the nom, we will throw our support behind John McCain. 28% and counting of Hillary Supporters will not support this fraud. Deal with it. Obama will never be your president. Say hello to President McCain! ROFLMAO!!!! Good night.

Hillary realizes it was she and her people who really disenfranchised Florida and Michigan by supporting penalties.
Hillary realizes the hypocritical nature of wanting the delegates to count so she and her followers now cling to popular vote which technically the democratic party did not provide any sanction on.
Of course since the primary didn't matter, Hillary ran basically unchallenged in Michigan and the Florida results are skewed at best. There truly is not telling how the results would have gone in a true contest.
Since the votes were to chose delegates the votes don't matter in any real sense. Hillary's conduct on Michigan and Florida shows the nightmare of a Clinton Presidency. A lack of concern about details and long-term implications of decisions led to this in Hillary's campaign. A similar lack of long-term concern let Al Qaeda fester before 9-11 which was essentially set as a result of the previous World Trade Attack, several impotent responses to other attacks. The North Korea nuclear issue was the result of a bad agreement with NK under Clinton1. Proliferation was accelerated under Clinton1 with Khan et al.
Outside of his direct response to 9-11 nd perhaps the NK nuclear issue, Bush was the worst President and Clinton1 set the table for the bad guys for the crises.

I found it amusing.
First, Obama supporters call Hillary supports: uneducated racists. They call Sen. Hillary Clinton names that I can not even imagine anybody would call his worst enemy.
Why on Earth we have to unite with this type of the party?
I don’t see that it is democratic anymore.
I also don’t see McCain as Bush. McCain serve this country well and proud of it.
We didn’t give up on the Democratic Party. Democratic Party gave up on us. Gave up on people who can not max their donation, working class who living from pay check to paycheck.
Hillary is real thing. And NO you cannot guilt us to vote for Obama.

75,000 Obama in Oregon is not a big deal. Oregon left wingers are going to show up for him of course LOL. Now if he is the strongest, why is he giving up KY, PA, or other states he is not doing well? Not even in Indiana with all the millions or in West Virginia where he outspent Hillary 4-1 he wasn't able to win there. His campaign instead loves to stage this huge crowds of the same cult followers, lefties, students, blacks and rich white guys.
Their strategy worked well, they won the caucus states vs. the real battle ground states. Hillary startegist Penn sux; but doesn't mean Obama is the strongest candidate. His American Idol propaganda will take him only so far!
Obama will be toast in November! I feel so sorry for all the cult followers that are seeing Obama as the "coming" to save their lives. LOL

"BARACK OBAMA DRAWS CROWD OF 75,000 IN OREGON Sunday. Reports say crowd size of a "City." +++++++++++++++ LOL at Oregon!! I hate to bring this up but last time I checked Oregon had, erm, 7 (seven) electoral votes! Oregon isnt exactly considered a make you or break you state in presidential elections. The argument that Clinton is making is exactly that - the states that actually matter in the (messed up, IMHO) electoral college - the ones who actually put presidents into office - are with her and not Obama. And shes right. Not only that but the Republican election machine managed to put Bush in office, TWICE. They can get McCain elected - dont think otherwise, and Clinton has a far better shot at beating McCain than Obama. Just wait, just wait... until if/when Obama is officially declared the nominee - McCain is going to mop the floor with him, a young man, a man of color, a man with an Arabic sounding name - just watch what they do. And they will appeal to the fear and bias of the same geniuses who voted for Bush. If you're a Democrat I suggest thinking long and hard about what dirt Clinton has already survived since her husbands administration, compared to what new dirt we don't even know about Obama that will only come out once the Republicans are sure he is the nominee. They are going to sink him. Keep up the fight Hillary!

Viktoriya writes: "Why on Earth we have to unite with this type of the party?"
The reason is that the person you love, respect, and put your trust in - namely Hillary - will strongly advise you to do so.
I ask again. Will you ignore her call?
Posted by: Geeza | May 18, 2008 11:39:30 PM
What's even funnier is that Obama and his supporters think the Hillary Supporters will unite and vote him into office. Hah. Let's see, after calling her every name in the book and deriding her supporters as uneducated and ignorant, they think we will help put their man, Heinz57, into the WH? A man who does not even know how many states there are in the US. A man with questionable ties to very shady characters, a man who has even lied about the circumstances of his birth? Noooo - I don't think so. Guess those poor Obama Supporters will have to get him into the WH without us - and just what is the chance of that? Especially since most of us will be casting our uneducated and ignorant votes for McCain or Nader. Call me anything, just don't call me an Obama Supporter. Good Luck on that WH deal! ROFLAMA!!!

Hillary makes sense. Obama cannot beat any Republican nominee. Mc Cain will push Obama to the limit with mature and responsible leadership style.
McCain cannot be beaten be it Hillary or Obama his opponent.
