Clinton, Obama Cordial on Senate Floor
May 13, 2008 1:35 PM
ABC News' Z. Byron Wolf Reports: No snub on Capitol Hill today. Just before noon on the Senate floor, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., walked purposefully over to party rival New York Senator Hillary Clinton to shake her hand and pat her on the arm. Clinton was in conversation with Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo.
Watch the VIDEO HERE.
Senators were voting on a proposal to suspend investment in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve - it passed 97-1 at 12:03.
Just after that vote was called, Obama could be seen talking to West Virginia Democrat and Dean of the Senate Robert Byrd.
He spoke for ten minutes or more with Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich. At the same time, Clinton could be seen talking to Michigan's other Democratic senator, Debbie Stabenow.
The Michigan votes, of course, are contested in the Democratic primary; Sen. Obama was not even on the ballot there.
After a final vote, the Senators will go to a party policy lunch with other Democrats. Its unclear if we'll see them more on the Hill today.

Maybe I'd feel better if he actually beat her...and didn't have it handed to him like Bush in 2000.

I'm done...I won't vote come November!

Dems will come together to throw the GOP out. Don't have any doubts about that. Continue the war in Iraq?? Continue the tax cuts for the very wealthy?? No freakin' way.

Don't not vote. Don't let your disgust with this race take away your voice. Even if you write in a foolish name--do it.

God Help the Democratic party if Obama is the nominee. They will be losing so many democrats by Nov it won't be funny.
McCain will be elected, if hillary is not on the ballot.

FL and MI should have a revote. Whomever has the most popular votes would be president and second would be vp. That would be a valid winning ticket but instead we are going to have half the democrats mad and out for blood. Thanks Howard for this big fat mess.

How can anyone from Florida or Michigan want the popular vote to be the deciding factor?
The popular vote does not include 14 states that held caucus elections.
Some states hold caucuses to save taxpayers millions of dollars.
Using the popular vote is the same as saying 14 states do not count.

Vote McCain, the only sane vote left to us.

FL and MI have no one but themself to thank for this problem and who knows maybe just maybe had they not moved their primary up we would not be having this long debate anyway. The rules are the rules FL and MI knew that and took it upon themself to try to be in the spot light. Now look what they have caused..... Thing might have been different but here we are THANKS FLORIDA ONCE AGAIN AND NOW MICHIGAN! What a mess yet this is politics in the USA.

Just like Bush with the war, Obama lied to the Democrats at the begining of the campaign hiding his allegiance to Rev. Wright and Black theology. That is the only reason he is ahead in the primaries. After we found out he has not win anything but NC in which obviously there was fraud.. Obama is as deceiving and conniving as Bush. Write Hillary on the ballot.

A true Democrat won't vote for Obama or MCCain. Write Hillary Clinton on the ballot. she should run independent. This process has been tainted. The media wants to push Obama on us.

Olivia Lee, Ok, I am not a true democrat, I admit it, I am a born-again republican and voting for John McCain!!!
Posted by: justme2see | May 13, 2008 2:32:28 PM
Obama can not win the nomination with just the African American vote and a few High School and freshmen confused kids. He alienated the blue collar vote, the rural vote, the Hispanic vote and the true Democrats vote.

My sense is that Most of Clinton's supporters are lying and/or bluffing when they say that they will vote for McCain in the fall if(when) Obama is the nominee. They say that to create the "impression" that Clinton is more electable.
Those that really mean it didn't know what being a democrat meant in the first place. However, I chose to believe that Clinton's supporters are smarter than we are led to believe.
Most Clinton supporters WILL NOT VOTE TO OVERTURN Roe V. Wade!!! They will not VOTE FOR MORE YEARS IN IRAQ!!! They will look at their ban accounts and NOT VOTE FOR the same BUSH ECONOMIC Policies that McCain seems to love so much.
Clinton supporters are just sour right now. They are melting down and grasping for that shoestring of hope. That string is breaking thread by thread everyday. But, they will come around in a few months when McCain is exposed for who he is and what he stands for.

I laugh when I read posts like this, just switch parties, why stay at home. True democrats will vote for the democratic nominee whether it's Hillary or Barack. Like, your post is going to sway the masses of Democrats to stay home, Please get real, we have heard the same bull for months.

Tina from Florida, you can't change the rules of the game at this point. Everyone agreed to them (both Clinton and Obama), then your state and Michigan broke them. That's not Obama's fault, that's not Howard Dean's fault. It's not even your fault. But some authority in your state, knowing the pre-determined consequences, broke the rules. I'd be unhappy if I were you, too, but there's no sense in blaming Dean or Obama. Check and see what Clinton said about it back then. Her tune has changed. I'd have no problem with you guys having a new, fair election, but nobody seemed able to work that out. Obama did not stop it, though many pro-Clinton bloggers seem to think so. By the way, the rules state we determine the nominee by delegates, not popular vote. If you want to change that in the future, get involved in the process! Sounds like it could use some changing, and while you're at it, do something about that electoral college, too!

Young voters think this is American Idol. The majority don't have a clue of what any of the candidates are saying or doing.
You think she will lose those states? BHO doesn't have a chance. They didn't vote for him now & they vote for him in November.
Posted by: T | May 13, 2008 2:46:10 PM
Leann he gets 25 to 35% of white workers that are registered Democrats. So to the 70% Democrats that will not vote for him you have to add all others that are Republicans or Independents. We are not lying 4 years of McCain would be the lesser of two evils and then Hillary can come on 2012. Anyway I think we shuld write Hillary's name on the ballot, I am sure she can get more votes tha Obama, and maybe more than McCain.

"True Democrat"? I am a true blue democrat, always have been. But, more importantly, I am a true blue American. And if the Dems are stupid enough to nominate Obama, I WILL VOTE FOR MCCAIN. At that time, it will no longer be Dems vs Repubs, but what is important for the country. Obama WILL DESTROY the America I love. I am a true Democrat, but the safety and security of my family , and my country, always come first. Obama , the dangerous liar, will never be my President. So, who do you love more, your party, or your family?

louielouie All they agreed was not to campaign in those states and Obama broke the agreement campaigning in Florida through TV ads anyway.
