Clinton Sits Through Sermon About Adultery
May 18, 2008 12:42 PM
ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: When things couldn't be looking worse for Sen. Hillary Clinton's bid for the presidency in 2008, as her rival Barack Obama closes in on gaining enough delegates to secure the nomination, the former first lady attended a church service in Bowling Green, Ky., Sunday featuring a sermon about lust and adultery.
The hour-long sermon focused on the sin of committing adultery -– as outlined in Mathew 5:27-32.
Clinton, D-N.Y., has often said her faith pulled her through the difficult time when her husband, former President Bill Clinton, had an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
Paul Fryman of the State Street United Methodist Church asked the congregation, "How is your commitment level in your marriage this morning?’
He spoke about lust and the sin of cheating on your partner. Clinton looked straight ahead as the man spoke about the theme of the sermon, which was: "Come Up Higher When the Devil Whispers Over Your Shoulder."
Clinton sang and participated in the service –- and afterwards shook hands with many well-wishers and community members.

You know, if Clinton would just do the right thing and stop her doomed campaign she could avoid awkward moments like this. And actually start to help the Democrats as a whole reclaim the White House.

This story is not journalism... it is trash. How sad!

At least she's in church. Were you? It's easy to be judgemental.
I hope ABC has the Michelle Obama tape about "Whitey". Are you investigating that? Could be worth 1 million dollars.

I am an ardent Obama supporter but as for this story, I'm amazed at the comments that seem to blame Hillary for Bill's marital "indiscretions". To suggest that she should have left him or worse yet, killed him because of the Monica Lewinsky affair (and any other trysts he may have had) suggests either an amazingly shallow opinion of marriage or an overblown view of the importance of sex. In either case, I say "grow up".

He was talking about the sin of adultry. Why is that controversial?
Posted by: Joan | May 18, 2008 1:32:22 PM
Adultery is a theme older than the Bible and a very common topic. It is very much not unique to the Clinton relationship. What is signficant is that Hillary appears in the latest polls to be padding her huge lead in Kentucky and closing sharply on Obama in his "locked down" Oregon territory.
Could be yet another huge Hillary comeback this Tuesday.

Hold on...
Bill was an adulterer... and Hillary was a passive victim?
Maybe not.
Recall that Hillary was a world-class enabler for Bill's moral and ethical lapses. She designed the "nuts-or-sluts" defense for all the female targets of Bill's addiction.
So sitting through a sermon on adultery is a problem on two levels. First, it raises Hillary complicity in the Clinton moral equation.
Second, it questions her judgement in thinking that merely attending a church service absolves her of her past "sins".
Perhaps the greater sin is that of ambition at any ethical cost.
Whoops. There they go again.

Kris in AL:
To answer your question:
This is exactly what makes Hillary the most qualified person for the job, because she would know how to separate what has transpired in her personal life from her PROFESSIONAL life.
In my opinion, what she had to tolerate from her husband in the interest of family unity in her PERSONAL life, would make her LESS likely to tolerate it in any other situationin her PROFESSIONAL life......

This is BS at it's absolute worst. Is this somehow a parallel with Rev. Wright? Is it supposed to show that Clinton is a hypocrite? All it really shows is that ABC is nothing but a tabloid. Jounalism? Not even close. Next they'll be folowing her to the grocery store and reporting that she passed by the cigarette counter and didn't protest big tabacco.

Thank you Eloise Harper! It's about time that a woman journalist has had the integrity and guts to write about the most obvious of Clinton liabilities. We must be reminded of both Bill's awful damage he did to our country and the Democratic party, and Hillary's bizarre avoidance of it and crass attitude toward it for her own political purposes. Women in fact need to be reminded right now how Hillary totally disregarded the dignity of Bill's women,(remember "Bimbo Eruptions -- her term),in defending him in order to keep power. Hillary Clinton stands for no woman but herself.

E. Harper come on you are obviously tired and need a rest. ABC calls this journalism- I mean come on can we get a real journalist for this column space???

Bill Clinton put the word SURPLUS in your life- have you heard that word lately????
Posted by: Enraged | May 18, 2008 1:40:18 PM
@bob10001,
Wow, you've got some serious issues! Probably a history of emotional and/or physical abuse of women, too.
"It's about time a woman journalist has had integrity and guts to write about the most obvious of Clinton liabilities." WTF? Just what planet does this loser live on?

How strange that the sermons that Obama heard for 20 years didn't make him uncomfortable.
Listen my ex cheated on me about when Bill cheated on Hillary....my ex cheated with his personal trainer....no one in my life brings this up constantly...and I have no trouble going to the gym.
Would it be news if Obama had been sitting through a sermon about loyalty to personal friends or following the teachings of your church (like anti white Black separtism)
When is the MSM going to get tired of attacking Hillary with her husband's infidelity?
When are you going to tell the story of Alice Palmer?

Eloise has had her daggers out for Hillary every since this race began. She tries to compete subtly with the venomous Ann Coulter in negativity, but the reader gets it. I don't think I have ever read as much bias as comes out of her keyboard!

Bill's personal behavior was certainly not admirable but as GOP Rep. Chris Shays said : "If we held the members of Congress up to this same standard we would lose two-thirds of them." I admire Hillary for hanging in and working it through (for Chelsea) and her family instead of packing it in. Stop and think about the upheaval that might have been created also for the country if Hillary didn't hold it together at that time.

Talking about adultery, the story doing the rounds on various websites the last couple of days is about Obama having his own Monica Lewinsky -or should I say Marvin Lewinsky? - moment in the back of a limo a while back.
If the Republicans get traction on this one, the election is over. Period.
Let that campaign supporter, whose candidate is without baggage, cast the first stone.

bob10001's comments make them sound more like a boob and I guess this is Harper's target audience....so SAD!!!
