Clinton: W. Va. Will Be Turning Point in Race

ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Senator Hillary Clinton continued her tour of West Virginia today, arguing Tuesday's primary election in the state will turn the tide.

“This is going to be a crucial turning point in this election and I want you to know that if you stand up for me tomorrow then I will stand up for you.”

Clinton, who is expected to win the West Virginia primary tomorrow,  was introduced by a supporter, local state senator Harry Truman Chafin, who predicted a possible ninety percent victory in the state.

“We’ve got to give her vote tomorrow 80-20 or 90-10 – lets get the national media’s attention!” Truman said.  Clinton spokesperson Mo Elleithee quickly tried to lower expectations.

“We appreciate his exuberance, but we expect the race to be much closer than that,” he said.

Clinton provided a small insight as to why she is continuing her bid: “I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t believe I could be the best president for West Virginia and America.  And that was the stronger candidate to take on John McCain in the fall.”

Speaking about President Bush’s economic policies – Clinton said, “we’ve lost ground under President Bush. He seems to have the idea if you just take care of the rich everything else will just be fine. You’ve heard of that. Trickle-down economics; well, a lot of people feel like they’ve been trickled on for seven years.”

Comparing the current president to her husband she said, “Bill Clinton took care of us – he led us fiscally …and now were back to work our way out of a big ditch.”

Clinton said she was shaking hands with voters in the state and "a man handed me a check and said you keep fighting – this will help you."

During her speech a man from the crowd shouted out “Keep fighting!” and an applause followed the comments.

Clinton said West Virginia picks presidents – but then said the state was also responsible for picking George W. Bush.

“West Virginia in the general election votes for the winner. If West Virginia had voted for our democratic nominee in 2000 and 2004 we wouldn’t have had to put up with George Bush.”

Since when the OBAMA fanatics think that the goal post is at the 10 yard line.

I love the spirit of this campaign, and the spirit of the people in West Virginia! Don't let anyone pigeon-hole you, West Virginia! Show the Democrat Party and America that you are strong and will not be counted out. Give Hillary a huge vote and you will not be disappointed. Show the rest of the country that wisdom comes in all kinds of states. "Almost heaven, West Virginia........Mountain Mama" bring us home with Hillary!

VOTE FOR MAMA, NOT FOR OBAMA!

Hillary I can't tell you how MUCH I admire you for this fighting spirit you've got. You are my hero no matter what happens.

Her race is over, why is she the only one who does not get it? You can not win on the popular votes. If that is so than my vote in Iowa was not counted. She is one crazy woman.

West Virginia does matter! And people wonder why so many people do not like Obama, and will not vote for him. Yes, West Virginia does matter, so does Michigan, so does Florida, and so do all the voters in the states who have not voted. I just love the way Kerry and Kennedy, the news media, and people like Bill Richardson wanted the campaign to stop several states ago. We get it. Some of you certainly do not. What arrogance and elitism!

28 delegates up for grabe in WV and that will make a difference? Hill the Bosnian General get the math right, you are not under snipers'fire in Bosnia, you are in West Virginia in the US. God bless America and God bless Obama. OBAMA08.

John_Lai, I'm not a fanatic and I didn't drink the kool-aid. I'm just one of the many Democrats choosing between two stellar candidates, whose stances are actually very similar. Clinton supporters who name-call while they criticize Obama supporters for the very same only hurt our chances to elect a Dem in the fall.

Whether or not winning the next few states makes a difference in the Clinton campaign or not - the point is HILLARY IS A FIGHTER - ALL THE WAY. She doesn't need the DNC any longer, she can win this on her own. Let the DNC nominate and kiss the feet of obama and michelle - LET THEM - See how many of the Clinton voters will support them - about 20 people. The DNC has destroyed itself with its love, support and prejudice with obama. And the DNC can have him and all his followers - good riddance to both.
I hope that Hillary goes Independent - she will have all the Democratic supporters behind her and obama cannot win without them and they aint' going to him.
Go Hillary - win big - we are still behind you - stay strong and show these wannabees what its all about.

Georgia, the problem is not that Obama doesn't think all of the states matter. The problem is that Clinton thought that the caucus states and the late voting states would not matter. She thought she would have the nomination wrapped up with the big states and Super Tuesday. She and her campaign miscalculated. Now she is paying the price.

Obama is going to have a lot of trouble winning the general election.

Turning point! lol, where does she think of this stuff? That is like the Patriots going outside with a football talking about the Super Bowl is not over and looking for a turning point.

Her turning point was in Feb. when she wrote off half the country and assumed she could not lose. Hill and Bill have really lost it mentally and from the looks of West Va. there a lot of people equally crazy.

Obama can get all the states that Kerry got and still lose in Nov....he knows that West Va and Kentucky will never vote for him so he's busy trying to make amends for halting FL and MI revotes...FL will never go for that....

I believe that Obama has a ceiling of support he has reached in the primary. At least 35 or 40% of Hillary's voters will go McCain...He is in a lot more trouble than he thinks.

Explain me this Hillary's supporters, How does she win the general elction without the Obama's supporters because they ain't going to her either???!!! So instead of bickering about the hows and the what ifs, Hillary and her supporters should join Obama and his supporters under the Democrats banner to give McCain one good kicking in Nov.

Hahahahaha, that Hill's so funny.

I seem to remember saying that about North Carolina. Oh,well.

Mrs. Clinton, it's over. Time for you to take your gigantic ego and narcissism and depart the race.

Obama is the nominee.

Obama does not think all states matter: Michigan, Florida, West Virginia, Kentucky et al. He is in a hurry to be crowned king before he stumbles badly again. He won his states primarily because of AA votes, college students, skewed caucuses that intimidate individual voters, biased media that pumped him up at every turn while ridiculing Hillary, and a Democrat primary process that is absolutely ridiculous.

The only miscalculations on Hillary's part were the unexpected ploy of the Obama campaign in calling the Clintons racist and getting away with it, and fighting the biased media while trying to fight on the issues.

In spite of all that, look where we are. Half of the Democrats do not feel a "tingle run up their legs" when Obama speaks. He is full of rhetoric, weak on substance, and woefully inexperienced. If he is the nominee, he will lose in November. If he is not a strong enough candidate now against McCain, he will not be any better in November. What is he going to do til then, take a crash course in experience?

Obama's miscalculation?
He did not plan on so many of us being so "bitter". So, we will just "cling to our guns and our religion" until the Convention. Can't wait to see how the well-planned Democrat Party process works.

WV elects 28 delegates. Obama has picked up about that many super delegates in the last week. Turning point? What a joke.

I am from Canada. I remember when this presidential race started and I was interested in Obama. The first thing that came out of his mouth of note was that he wanted to meet the PRESIDENT of Canada. Canada is the USA's largest trading partner, it has huge oil resources upon which the USA depends and it shares the longest undefended border in the world with the USA. Chicago is only 435 miles from Toronto yet Mr. Obama did not know that Canada's leader is a Prime Minister and it has been that way for almost 150 years. Rookie mistake? Couple that with the gaffe about 57 states and the 100 million dead in the Burma cyclone and you can see that the emperor has no clothes. The guy is an ignorant idiot who makes George Bush looks almost as smart as, well Hillary Clinton. The rest of the world does not want four more years of an American Idiot.
