Clinton: 'You Can't Tell How Far a Frog Will Jump Until You Punch Him'

ABC News' Eloise Harper Reports: Facing an increasingly improbable candidacy for the White House, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., showed no signs of stopping on the trail in South Dakota and cited an old Arkansas, saying in an off-handed reference to her campaign: "you can't tell how far a frog will jump until you punch him."

Clinton continues to make the case that she has done better in primary contests since February 20 than Democratic frontrunner Barack Obama, winning more votes, states and delegates despite having faced many blows along the way, including the departure of both her campaign manager and chief strategist. She has also had to regain ground several times.

Another blow Clinton has had to face is one that concerns her finances. Clinton, whose campaign is approximately $20 million in debt, said in Huron, S.D. that she is the most fiscally responsible candidate.

"If you will vote for me next Tuesday, you are voting for the most fiscally responsible candidate on either side of the aisle," said Clinton.

Clinton, who has been fighting financial woes in her campaign since February, has argued that she knows more about financial issues than her opponents. When asked previously to explain why that is, Clinton sited her experience from her work as Senator from New York.

Clinton continued to express her exasperation with the press.

"I am tired," said Clinton with exasperation. "I am tired of politicians and people in the press saying we cant do things. We are the can do nation."

Clinton was asked Wednesday night if she really wanted reporters to be more vigorous and aggressive – she said that she does, but on the "right things."

"I really do," insisted Clinton. "I really do. On the right things.  On things that are important to the future of our country. On things that really matter. I would love that."

No, the reason we will lose is because as usual the democrats pick the weakest candidate.

So your candidate didn't win. Get over it. Vote for what's in your best interest and that ain't John McCain.

Well it's certainly NOT Obama.

I love how Hillary had to borrow money to run commercials in for the last few primary states that says "We are thru borrowing money." LOL!

You know, if you only count states where HRC has won, then it is clear that she should be the nominee.

and frog punching is just wrong.

Posted by: Louis | May 29, 2008 6:09:51 PM

Hey, what's that other old saying -- "you can't tell how loud a baby can bawl until you kick him in the butt"?

Okay, maybe there isn't any such saying. Or maybe there should be. Punching frogs is animal abuse. Don't use stupid cliches that seem to advocate or condone animal abuse. One more reason not to vote for Hillary.

Well here we go again.Clinton is running till the end so she can get what she loaned the campaign that done she will give in.Every where she goes she is begging for money. Put her in and your taxes will go to the limit so she can pay her bills. Her drycleaning bill must take up a HUGE part of her debt.As a Canadian I travelled to Arizona for 20 years and Racism is one BIG problem in the USA We always were glad we were "white folks"I sure hope Barama will pave the way for others to treat everyone the same as God made the world in many colors, shapes and forms and that includes people, His most precious gift was love for each other.
Too bad some people cannot LOVE but prefer to worship the hate of the Devil
But don't worry what goes around comes around so be ready!!!!!

Siafa, are you on crack?

Posted by: Siafa | May 29, 2008 5:05:36 PM

Obama is not the change we need. He is the same as all the politicians. He has shady characters in his past, a campaign that scrubs it's website of one of those characters in a sneaky fashion. Hillary has no reason to hurry out of this race. If she hangs on a few more days her donations should increase dramatically when the truth of these things surface, and people see they have been behind the wrong one. He is not the Chosen One, the Messiah...he's a politician.

Siafa, are you on crack?

As A Green Toad from California, I resent Hillary's comments about Frogs in general and the abuse towards us and any other animals!

If Obama is the agent of change, what has he done in his 7 or so years of political life that proves this. I see nothing. This retoric is because he sees that people want change. He is no agent of change and has no clue what he wants to do -- so he remains silent on most issues and refuses to answer questions. Meanwhile, the most of the corrupt officials in Chicago whose names appear on the Rezko trial donated unusually huge sums of money to Obama - for what? Criminals don't suddently get politically ideological and donate $10000 to the campaign. They do it because it is part of the "pay-to-play" scan of Chicago politics of which Obama was an integral part. Even if he gets elected, he will be nailed by Fitzgerals and finally impeached and possibly removed from Office.

Since all I see from Obama supporters is trashing HIllary (not critique..thumping) I have determined that in fact they dont know anything about Obama and they are just voting because some kind of hatred towards Hillary (or some kind of rock star hope from Obama). Thats to be expected, she is an ex first lady.
However, the lack of any REAL information on Obama, his policies, his voting record (or lack of it) is disturbing. The fact he has used his race as a ticket to "cool" and rode that I find kinda sick. The fact that Clinton is treated in such as sexist manner and nobody want to deal with that (although we are so sensitive to race) is grating me. I WOULD NEVER VOTE OBAMA. HE IS A PUPPET AND ANYONE THAT LOOKS AT HIS ACTUALY CAMPAIGN WITHOUT QUOTING THE AUDACITY OF HOPE CAN SEE THAT.

Dee5,
Are you serious?

Posted by: J | May 29, 2008 6:18:01 PM

So now all politicians are essentially frogs? Should the French be insulted? Silly season on steroids!

Posted by: Oh Brother | May 29, 2008 6:18:12 PM

Rae:
I think you and Obama are both on crack. Opps, was that RACIST?

Posted by: kali | May 29, 2008 6:18:52 PM

Obama is an empty suit wating to be discovered. McCain will run the straight talk express all over him.
Must elect a candidate that can be strong.
GO HILLARY

O LOSING IN STATES HE'S WON

May 29, 2008 -- A new polling analysis spells potential trouble in the fall for Democratic front-runner Barack Obama: He struggles against Republican candidate John McCain even in states where he defeated Hillary Rodham Clinton...

Just wondering ..because nobody addresses this:

1. I understand that there is a limit on the amount of $$$ an individual and a corporation can donate to a political campaign.

2. If Hilliary is in debt $20 mil (and today Morris said it was $30 mil ) does that mean that the vendors (hotels, radio and TV stations, and all the vendors who have rendered services) who have failed to be paid that in a back door way have contributed MORE then the limit to her? In the guise of services?

3. If she owes her former campiagn manager $2 mil and he doesn't try to collect it doesn't that amount to a contribution in excess of the limit?

4. If she runs up (and has) hotel bills and food bills and doesn't pay them, again, isn't that a contribution even if it was an unwillling one?

5. Why do these creditors continue to provide services to her without demanding payment in advance? Doesn't this amount to contributions?

6. If she ever drops out of the race and concedes to Obama who will pay off the creditors?
In a regular bankruptcy, the person who files is the last to recover funds. So would all the other creditors be paid before Billiary gets their money back?

7. Why would anyone loan themselves $11 mil and spend another $200 mil on a job that pays $200,000 a year?

8. Oh that's right ..so you can write books and give speeches and make $109 million a year.

Just wondering.
