Clinton’s Advice: Turn Off the Television
May 10, 2008 3:50 PM
ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: An adoring group of more than 1,000 people greeted Sen. Hillary Clinton and her daughter today at a fundraiser in New York City. She thanked them for their support and later told the group that she is going to finish the nominating process.
"I want you to know how grateful I am for your support and how much you have sustained me throughout this campaign," she said. "But it has been a joy. Now I know that may be hard to believe, but if you just take the advice that I give to my own mother, and that is: Just turn off the television."
The crowd roared and applauded, and Clinton assured them, "You will really enjoy this experience"
"What I hear and what I see is all about how we are going to finish this nominating contest, which we will do," she said. "Then we will have a nominee and we have a unified Democratic Party and we will stay together and we will defeat John McCain in November."
Celebrating Mother's Day a day early, Clinton said she would take the advice her mother gave her to the White House. Some of the things Clinton mentioned were: "Treat each other with kindness. Be nice to one another. Don’t grab somebody else’s toys. Know when to know when you’re supposed to use the right fork and knife."
"It is a joy for me to think about all of the wisdom that has been passed down," Clinton said. "And it would be exciting to have the first mother in the White House. We would have someone who has lived the experiences that many of us share and we would be focusing on how we're going to help families balance the work that they have to do outside the home and the really important work they do inside the home."
Clinton also took advantage of a question about college education to joke with the audience about how ong the campaign has been going on.
"When I stated out in this campaign, gosh it was about 100 years ago," she said.
Clinton wrapped up her remarks at the fundraiser with words of encouragement: "Let's keep going. This is a great adventure, stay with me!"

It is sad. She is just not seeing tbe writing on the wall. I guess it is hard, because they have always won, saying or doing whatever was necessary and this time it did not work. We surely need Obama to lead us now, not someone who is so power hungry that she would do or say whatever. Just concede, know that it is over and move on.

On Obama’s left hand he wears a symbol, a gold band wedding ring. Now, I know that this can be a nuisance for a man, working on cars, working in the fields, getting your hands dirty on the job, but it’s an important symbol of love, so some wear wedding bands. Obama said he doesn’t wear the American Flag pin because he loses them. He said symbols are not important its actions instead of symbols. The importance of the wedding ring goes without saying but that same importance goes with the American Flag or Pin. The American Flag is important to all Americans because it represents sacrifice by thousands that have given their lives so that we can live in a “free” society. Obama doesn’t get it and he can’t sell it. Symbols unite people and show that everyone is on the same boat --- we all feel the same and work toward the same goals. It is important to show respect. Nothing is more important in any President that “character”.

This is starting to get outright nasty.
If the democratic party wants Clinton to drop out, they need to come out and say so .
Not just sit in the middle and make snide articles about it.
This kind of nonsense just tears the party apart more.
What honest reason does anyone have to not let senator Clinton finish the final 6 contests ?
Its May 10th and its ends June 3rd. Does Obama have 2025 delegates?
Do you jerks have a problem with 6 states who get to vote in an undecided contest for the first time in 40 years?
The small upside to harassing both Bill and Hillary Clinton in the media is nowhere near the anger that they are creating for Clinton supporters.

Our Democratic Election Process is being tainted by Republicans who are voting for Obama in order to stack the deck in McCain’s favor by enabling him to run against Obama instead of Clinton. This is happening because Republicans no longer need to cast their one vote to select a republican candidate, so they are using their remaining voting ability to stack the deck. Republicans fear Clinton’s experiences and abilities present her as the best candidate to win against McCain in the fall. The Primary process needs to be handled like a regular election (having everyone vote at one time) to help minimize such chances of stacking the deck in any candidates favor. Checking several years of the historical votes of the individuals voting for Obama could prove out true Republican allegiance and not the indication of switching parties. The Democratic super delegates need to be made aware of this tainting of the Democratic Election Process before it is too late. Our country will once again be twisted and controlled by special self interests groups of the wealthiest that use the hard work of other people to increase their own financial gain. These special interest usury groups step on the rights of all of mankind for their own gains no matter how much it costs generations of the Americans and people around the world. People are dieing in wars, overpaying in health care, food, and gas prices in order for such special interest wealthy groups to maintain control and power over the majority of people. Our country’s democracy was created and meant to enable leadership to look out for the majority of people who need protection from such usury special interest groups. Please help improve the Democratic process before its to late.

Uncommitted Democratic superdelegates in Congress overwhelmingly say they won't necessarily back the presidential candidate who wins the most primary delegates. Instead, electability will be very important in their
decision.
Of 42 lawmakers interviewed by The Hill, only four said they regarded the primary vote as decisive.

I'm reasonably sure that Bill Clinton has NOT helped Hillary's campaign very much. But the time has come for the Clinton family to throw everything including the kitchen sink at BHO. Hillary has tried to be "nice" for too long; maybe she should take a cue from Bill and get nasty. The end-game cannot be played with velvet gloves.

MSM still has the hypnotic hold, people still really believe what they say to be the truth? Oh please, they are the ones who created the Obama phenominon and put down Hillary will made up stories and biased opinion people think is fact. pathetic.

At the end of six primary's Obama will need the supers also so she will not quit. Nor should she.MSM has played in this election from the start.

People, this is exactly why I have been advocating for the unification of our party. The denial is no longer practical. We as democrats need to get together and vote for the nominee, not the one in denial by not watching TV. By the way, she said exactly the same not watching TV thing about the investigation of her Whitewater scandal.

There seems to be a slim margin between being a fighter--not a quitter--and being delusional when it's come to the Clifton.
Time for the Democrats to wake up and not let a single couple jeopardize their chance to win back the White house.

I think the media and stupid high level democrats are creating such a deep divide with the Clinton voters, its going to be very difficult to bridge it.
This latest 'rip Clinton a new one at any cost' when she is just finishing the last 3 weeks of the contest is DAMAGING the party.
Obama is the presumptive nominee. But he doesnt have the delegates to win.
The media and Obama supportes are PUBLICALLY coming out to chastise Clinton for campaigning is not something you are going to see again nor have we ever seen it before.
I have never seen a party try to FORCE a candidate out before the winner actually won SO MANY TIMES during the process as I have seen in this one.
Its created a HUGE rift for the Clinton supporters.
The media never figured that for every Obama supporter watching the news, there is a Clinton supporter. Both have 15mil votes.
Either that , or they WANT to divide the party so Mc Cain can win the election.
Posted by: tomdavie | May 10, 2008 4:55:47 PM
TomDavie... the problem with allowing HRC to continue her mad dash to the finish line is HER MOUTH. She just keeps spouting venom that is DESTROYING the party. Her "white" comments the other day were 1) false and 2) divisive. If people in PA and OH and WV, etc etc start sipping her KoolAid,they may just vote skin color. She seems to forget that Obama has won more states and only three or for of the 32 wins were aided by large African American populations. Obama has the largest coalition going. She knows this. Her comments were intentional. She wants to divide this party - get McCain in there, and then come back as the savior, the "see I told you" candidate of 2012. Because she knows if Obama gets in, he'll be there for 8 years and she'll be too damn old and irrelevant to run again.
That's the problem we have. It's a problem we've had since February, when we really "WON" this race. Remember? When Obama won every contest for an ENTIRE month? Yeah. That's when she should have left. Since then we've had her fanning the flames of "controversy" alongside her buddy McCain, and tearing the democratic party in half.

Here is a question I would like someone to ask Hillary, that I haven't heard her asked yet- 'Senator Clinton why did you leave your name on the ballot in Michigan, when nearly every other candidate removed there name from the ballot in line with a party agreement?'
Posted by: markymark | May 10, 2008 5:22:44 PM
I think the future of the Dems lies with the young, college educated voters. Obama is ahead in every category at this point, and if the Dems want to really alienate the future of this party, then go ahead and take the nomination away from him. That would just be great for the future of the party.
Let it go Hillary. You're done.

There are just too many questions about Obama - why bother!
Posted by: s. valenti | May 10, 2008 5:29:58 PM
It's really disheartening to see the Obama supporters still spewing venom Clinton's way. Everyone knows that Obama has the nomination, but if he gets the nomination and loses contests in W. VA and Kentucky after it is official, it becomes a big embarrassment for him. The more you folks run down Clinton before she officially leaves the race, the more angry you make her supporters. Regardless of what you seem to feel is "owed" to you and Obama, you will need the Clinton supporters in the fall if you want him to win the election. This isn't over until November. Don't blow with arrogance. We need a democrat in the White House and every potential vote is too important to dismiss.
Posted by: mhhunt | May 10, 2008 5:30:02 PM
Anne--Sorry, but I'm not going to vote for a president because the person wears or does not wear a flag pin. That is one of the most idiotic things I've ever heard of. My own father served in the military for nearly 25 years and respected his country greatly but never wore a flag pin. Are you suggesting that he did not respect his country or somehow lacked character? I want a president who is intelligent, who takes the time to understand an issue from different perspectives, who understands the many challenges our country is facing, and who is caring. A flag pin has nothing to do with any of that.

All I can tell you is my life was soooo much better when the Clintons were in the White House. I remember too that after spending millions on the White Water investigation they found nothing illegal. Evidently you are too young to remember that. I know one thing I am scared of is a President that has done nothing in his time in the Senate but he has sweet talked you stupid people in believing that all of a sudden he is going to DO something as President and that would really be a change. God Bless America! and keep us safe from do nothings and sweet talkers

So we have an inexperienced wannabe who has failed in every single thing she has ever tried to do [except, perhaps, the important one of raising an OK daughter - TBD]. A "feminist" who has nothing to run on but her husband's record. Based on this vast experience she appears to continue to believe that the White House is just another entitlement program.
Ironically, the television one should not watch has been noting that her primary support is coming from mindless women-first voters and from the illiterate. Based on the comments one sees on this blog, I guess the pollsters finally got one right.

I never wear my wedding ring. I lost it years ago, and can't afford a new one. Yet, it really isn't about the ring. It is about how I treat my wife, and how I try to do better despite my faults and imperfections. The ring is cool;I like gold, but for real, it is actions. My children watch what I do, they don't listen to what I say. A flag pin is cool, but really, flag pins are flag pins. I watched TV last week and a bunch of FOX NEWS people, conservatives did not have on pins. Am I to assume they are not patriotic? It's silly. I can't believe we are debating this.
Posted by: isome truman | May 10, 2008 7:17:20 PM
What in the world are Obama supporters thinking about. Rev. Wright's speeches is what Obama and his wife has listened to for over 20 years. Obama's wife said this is the first time she has been proud to be an American. Hillary is so dedicated to our country and will work hard to get us out of the mess that we are in. Let's keep America proud and do the right thing and vote for Hillary.

Turn off your TV, get all of your information from HRC. Is that really what she wants to be telling people? Don't bother to get information from other sources. Get all of your information from HRC? There's a name for this form of government, but it's not democracy. HRC, your days are truly numbered now, you bitter witch. Between what and Slick have said this week, don't expect superdelegates to stay on your side any more. So long, lady. And good riddance.

Posted by: John_Lai | May 10, 2008 8:04:52 PM
I should mention, one of the inane things about the whole Wright eruption is that conservatives wanted to focus on the anti-America lines from Wright. Obama went on the defensive, saying he never heard the inflamatory sermons.
Obama was only being honest, but this got lost in the whole "debate" about Wright. It's pretty obvious Obama doesn't believe much in that God stuff. He only pays lip service to it in the name of a higher god. Politics.
Posted by: Mark | May 10, 2008 8:06:01 PM
This flag pin argument really irritates me. For those of you questioning Obama's character and patriotism due to not wearing a flag pin, let me ask you, "do you wear a flag pin?" I don't see one on Clinton or McCain and no one questions either one of them on it. Lapel jewelry does not make a person patriotic. It is your actions that are far more important. There is a section of American that is so scared of Obama being president that they make this stuff up and it is ridiculous. Flag pins, lies about him being a muslim, lies about him not pledging allegiance or saluting the flag, lies about him having terrorist ties, etc. are all being spread by people who think everyone is stupid enough to believe it, and are being believed by people who would never vote for Obama anyway. Aren't we better than this?
Posted by: DLW | May 10, 2008 8:07:02 PM
I agree Veronica. I feel as if he is being shoved down my throat too.Is this the democracy we fought so hard to protect? I get so concerned that I make typos because I feel so passionate about what is happening. I also agree with Georgia. This whole mess is disgraceful. The people in caucuses mean nothing. One voter from Florida said this on TV. She said that Florida voted a real primary and that anyone could walk into a caucus. How many actual primary votes did Obama get? If Obama appoints himself, count me out!
Posted by: AnneC | May 10, 2008 9:46:54 PM
Question for Mark. Why did Obama run ads in Florida if he wanted to abide by the rules? Game over Obama!
Posted by: AnneC | May 10, 2008 9:49:00 PM
Why did Clinton leave her name on the ballots? Because she's an intelligent politician. And she doesn't hide the fact she's a politician. Obama's one, too, even though he attempts to hide it because he believes that makes him more palatable to the populous.
Tomdavie, I agree with your assessment of the media and the Dem. party's behavior and the fact those who are voting are basically split 50/50.
Should Obama get the nomination, I don't feel he needs anymore more help -- at least not from anyone with Clinton leanings -- his supporters don't make me feel like I belong to the same party. Even though I'm young -- I'm "old way" because I happen to believe Hillary Clinton is the best prepared and most capable candidate for president we've seen in decades.
Posted by: joywinnie | May 10, 2008 10:52:01 PM
What am I hearing? We should only listen to the young college educated voters? Who then should represent the rest of our country? I am college educated but this does not make my opinion any more important than someone that has never went to college. The arrogance showing in so much of what I see and hear just makes me sick. People, you owe the very freedom to live as you please and speak your mind to the many "old" folks that have gone before you. Their wisdom, courage, determination and willingness to lay down their lives are the reason that you are today able to sit back and judge them for what you perceive as there flaws. Hopefully, you will to live long enough to realize that you don't know everything and never will.

Far too many supporters of Senator Obama are over the edge in their hate for Senator Clinton, the better candidate for the position of President. I have read both his books and thousands of pages about his personal. professional and politican background and can find no reason to vote for him over Senator Clinton. His campaign and supporters are out of control. NO DECENCY. No Way, Obama.

I would be proud to have Hillary in the White House. For the first time in my lifetime, I would not be proud to have as my president and first lady-the Obamas. They do not represent our nation and would not be good representatives of our great country to other nations--they would bring it down to their level, which is not good. Dear TimDavies - the only hesitation I have for Clinton continuing the next 6 votes is that she appears to not care who she offends. She does not seem to know the limit between her own interest and the greater good, which should be a foregone conclusion of most politicians. She is an anomaly as she has none of those instincts. She just goes for the jugular without second guessing herself which equates to reckless to some of us who prefer the cautious, cool style of Obama. During this time in history I think it is important to have someone who errs on the side of caution. I hope that answers at least one of your questions about why people are nervous about letting Clinton continue. I am sorry that you have not viewed her campaign with any discretionary parameters other than just winning, because I believe that is what brought her to this end.

On Friday, the Jim Lehrer news hour had a guest who stated that the cable news is the one that is creating a divide by focussing on race and sensationalizing anything the candidates say that could be used out of context and replayed. She stated that the cable networks are not reporting facts, but opinions over and over and that is the real problem. Yes, I have stopped watching Tim Russert, Chris Mathews and Olberman who all seem disturbingly in love with Obama. I'll never forget how Mathews and Russert behaved the same for Bush! I guess they just really want the candidate who runs on nothing, except how he wants to change politics. Meanwhile Hillary, the policy brain is being ripped off by Obama Cable Informercials that try to pass themselves off as news.

Hillary doesn't wear a flag pin...or brooch for that matter. Lou Dobbs does. Does Lou Dobbs necessarily represent the best interests of the United States because he wears his patriotism on his lapel. Actions speak louder than words or symbols. Practice is better than precept.
The United States of America is not going to improve its economy and standing in the world on mere symbolism...it's going to take fundamental change in the way the nation conducts itself both domestically and internationally. Senator Obama has demonstrated a lot of fortitude and resolve in the face of more trash and controversy thrown at him than either clinton or mccain (no discussion about the Methodist Church's or Rev. Hagee's social policies). Let's have a level playing field and a mature discussion divorced from race and innuendo.

I agree..turn off the TV... with all the biased news channels and MSM (take your pick) making an informed choice is almost impossible. Way too many conflicting "stories". We are not getting "truth" from ANY of the media outlets. As far as getting on here and reading the comments, so much nastiness and insults from all sides towards each other..very disappointing. I personally don't need to know what each candidate had for breakfast or when they took their last shower...PLEASE! I just want to know where they stand on the issues that are important to me and the country. If I agree with what they say, then they have my vote.

IT'S as simple as that, make or break the dems party if CLINTONS' SUPPORTERS are not ok with the right nominee.and nobody's gain from this.Let Clintons' and their supporters accept the DEMS' NOMINEE in good faith and together fight for the general election.

It's a pretty serious thing to tell people to turn off the TV. What will be next, stop reading? Shut the curtains? Only listen to what "I" tell you, because "I" know what is good for you?
Shades of Marxism......there is absolutely no way this woman should be made President of the United States.....her control issues are dangerous to ALL American's.
I've heard her make comments similar to George W. Bush regarding being Commander in Chief she would make independent decisions regarding the war
I've heard her say she doesn't have to listen to Economists
I've heard her say only a select group of people are important in the election process
So, being an older, Black, working class, Republican, American.....I find Senator Hillary Clinton "out of touch" with the American people.
To me, and possibly others she does not intend to lead and represent all of the people, only those who are loyal to her, and within her inner circle.
Not Shame, Shame, Shame
Instead Danger! Danger! Danger!
I sincerely hope people will take of the "Rose Colored Glasses" of Race and Gender to vote for the one who has risen above petty politics, and has attempted to promote unity within the Democratic Party and the country, no matter race, creed, color religion, or sexual orientation.
There is an international war where we have attempted to impose Democracy on countries who don't want it, and a domestic war in a country where we say we are a democracy......but a candidate uses imperialistic methods in an attempt to win the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.
Being middle class and below, not having a college degree, really does not have to equal stupid, nor uninformed.
Turn your televisions on, read your newspapers, listen with your head and your heart, and make a decision for your next President based upon the Truth, not emotion, pandering lies and manipulations.
Thanks for listening. I hope.
