Clinton’s Advice: Turn Off the Television

ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: An adoring group of more than 1,000 people greeted Sen. Hillary Clinton and her daughter today at a fundraiser in New York City. She thanked them for their support and later told the group that she is going to finish the nominating process.

"I want you to know how grateful I am for your support and how much you have sustained me throughout this campaign," she said. "But it has been a joy. Now I know that may be hard to believe, but if you just take the advice that I give to my own mother, and that is: Just turn off the television."

The crowd roared and applauded, and Clinton assured them, "You will really enjoy this experience"

"What I hear and what I see is all about how we are going to finish this nominating contest, which we will do," she said. "Then we will have a nominee and we have a unified Democratic Party and we will stay together and we will defeat John McCain in November."

Celebrating Mother's Day a day early, Clinton said she would take the advice her mother gave her to the White House. Some of the things Clinton mentioned were: "Treat each other with kindness. Be nice to one another. Don’t grab somebody else’s toys. Know when to know when you’re supposed to use the right fork and knife."

"It is a joy for me to think about all of the wisdom that has been passed down," Clinton said. "And it would be exciting to have the first mother in the White House. We would have someone who has lived the experiences that many of us share and we would be focusing on how we're going to help families balance the work that they have to do outside the home and the really important work they do inside the home."

Clinton also took advantage of a question about college education to joke with the audience about how ong the campaign has been going on.

"When I stated out in this campaign, gosh it was about 100 years ago," she said.

Clinton wrapped up her remarks at the fundraiser with words of encouragement: "Let's keep going. This is a great adventure, stay with me!"

Anne--Sorry, but I'm not going to vote for a president because the person wears or does not wear a flag pin. That is one of the most idiotic things I've ever heard of. My own father served in the military for nearly 25 years and respected his country greatly but never wore a flag pin. Are you suggesting that he did not respect his country or somehow lacked character? I want a president who is intelligent, who takes the time to understand an issue from different perspectives, who understands the many challenges our country is facing, and who is caring. A flag pin has nothing to do with any of that.

The small upside to harassing both Bill and Hillary Clinton in the media is nowhere near the anger that they are creating for Clinton supporters.

Yup it is why I never watch cable or any news reports anymore, if I get any angrier I will have to vote for ALL the republicans!

All I can tell you is my life was soooo much better when the Clintons were in the White House. I remember too that after spending millions on the White Water investigation they found nothing illegal. Evidently you are too young to remember that. I know one thing I am scared of is a President that has done nothing in his time in the Senate but he has sweet talked you stupid people in believing that all of a sudden he is going to DO something as President and that would really be a change. God Bless America! and keep us safe from do nothings and sweet talkers

So we have an inexperienced wannabe who has failed in every single thing she has ever tried to do [except, perhaps, the important one of raising an OK daughter - TBD]. A "feminist" who has nothing to run on but her husband's record. Based on this vast experience she appears to continue to believe that the White House is just another entitlement program.

Ironically, the television one should not watch has been noting that her primary support is coming from mindless women-first voters and from the illiterate. Based on the comments one sees on this blog, I guess the pollsters finally got one right.

Stop watching TV is a good idea. Before the last pitiful debate it was already over for me. It's already in the hands of the Lord anyway. So, who's "report" will YOU believe? Not the NETWORKS and definitely NOT cable. They are all BAD! Way too much junk!! I never thought I would not watch Barbara Walters, George and Charles...but hey!!! :~(

May she complete her journey through the nomination process and onto the White House.

I never wear my wedding ring. I lost it years ago, and can't afford a new one. Yet, it really isn't about the ring. It is about how I treat my wife, and how I try to do better despite my faults and imperfections. The ring is cool;I like gold, but for real, it is actions. My children watch what I do, they don't listen to what I say. A flag pin is cool, but really, flag pins are flag pins. I watched TV last week and a bunch of FOX NEWS people, conservatives did not have on pins. Am I to assume they are not patriotic? It's silly. I can't believe we are debating this.

What in the world are Obama supporters thinking about. Rev. Wright's speeches is what Obama and his wife has listened to for over 20 years. Obama's wife said this is the first time she has been proud to be an American. Hillary is so dedicated to our country and will work hard to get us out of the mess that we are in. Let's keep America proud and do the right thing and vote for Hillary.

Turn off your TV, get all of your information from HRC. Is that really what she wants to be telling people? Don't bother to get information from other sources. Get all of your information from HRC? There's a name for this form of government, but it's not democracy. HRC, your days are truly numbered now, you bitter witch. Between what and Slick have said this week, don't expect superdelegates to stay on your side any more. So long, lady. And good riddance.

The TV has told us everything but the truth.

I should mention, one of the inane things about the whole Wright eruption is that conservatives wanted to focus on the anti-America lines from Wright. Obama went on the defensive, saying he never heard the inflamatory sermons.

Obama was only being honest, but this got lost in the whole "debate" about Wright. It's pretty obvious Obama doesn't believe much in that God stuff. He only pays lip service to it in the name of a higher god. Politics.

This flag pin argument really irritates me. For those of you questioning Obama's character and patriotism due to not wearing a flag pin, let me ask you, "do you wear a flag pin?" I don't see one on Clinton or McCain and no one questions either one of them on it. Lapel jewelry does not make a person patriotic. It is your actions that are far more important. There is a section of American that is so scared of Obama being president that they make this stuff up and it is ridiculous. Flag pins, lies about him being a muslim, lies about him not pledging allegiance or saluting the flag, lies about him having terrorist ties, etc. are all being spread by people who think everyone is stupid enough to believe it, and are being believed by people who would never vote for Obama anyway. Aren't we better than this?

I agree Veronica. I feel as if he is being shoved down my throat too.Is this the democracy we fought so hard to protect? I get so concerned that I make typos because I feel so passionate about what is happening. I also agree with Georgia. This whole mess is disgraceful. The people in caucuses mean nothing. One voter from Florida said this on TV. She said that Florida voted a real primary and that anyone could walk into a caucus. How many actual primary votes did Obama get? If Obama appoints himself, count me out!

Posted by: AnneC | May 10, 2008 9:46:54 PM

Question for Mark. Why did Obama run ads in Florida if he wanted to abide by the rules? Game over Obama!

Posted by: AnneC | May 10, 2008 9:49:00 PM

Why did Clinton leave her name on the ballots? Because she's an intelligent politician. And she doesn't hide the fact she's a politician. Obama's one, too, even though he attempts to hide it because he believes that makes him more palatable to the populous.

Tomdavie, I agree with your assessment of the media and the Dem. party's behavior and the fact those who are voting are basically split 50/50.

Should Obama get the nomination, I don't feel he needs anymore more help -- at least not from anyone with Clinton leanings -- his supporters don't make me feel like I belong to the same party. Even though I'm young -- I'm "old way" because I happen to believe Hillary Clinton is the best prepared and most capable candidate for president we've seen in decades.

What am I hearing? We should only listen to the young college educated voters? Who then should represent the rest of our country? I am college educated but this does not make my opinion any more important than someone that has never went to college. The arrogance showing in so much of what I see and hear just makes me sick. People, you owe the very freedom to live as you please and speak your mind to the many "old" folks that have gone before you. Their wisdom, courage, determination and willingness to lay down their lives are the reason that you are today able to sit back and judge them for what you perceive as there flaws. Hopefully, you will to live long enough to realize that you don't know everything and never will.

There was no agreement to remove names from the ballot, and Dodd left his name on as well.

You just can't listen to the lies on the TV. It will make you nuts.
