ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: David Bonior, former campaign manager for N.C. Sen. John Edwards' 2008 presidential campaign, formally threw his support behind Sen. Barack Obama's candidacy Thursday touting Obama as the "one candidate who has proven he can bring change to Washington."

During a conference call with reporters, Bonior implied his decision to back Sen. Obama, D-Ill., was recent, calling Obama's ability to fight back against the controversies that have recently plagued his campaign ultimately led him to make an endorsement.

"I was waiting for Sen. Obama to show me the fight that I wanted to see," Bonior told reporters, "Because it's going to be a difficult fight against Sen. McCain...This has been, I think, the toughest weeks of Sen. Obama's campaign in the last month and he's shown great skills, great poise, and great determination and spirit."

Bonior said that he spoke with Edwards last weekend but wanted to keep their conversation private. He refused to give any hints as to which candidate Edwards is leaning towards in his still outstanding decision of who to endorse.

Bonior said Edwards will "make up his decision when he's ready. And I'm not prepared to share where he is or where he'll be."

Asked if whether or not it's time for Sen. Hillary Clinton to get out of the Democratic race to nomination, given that Bonior was with the Edwards campaign when that decision was made, the former campaign manager left it to the Clinton campaign saying, "They are a very aggressive campaign, and they will make that decision."

Bonior is a total fraud - backing someone he really knows nothing about - a man with no real experience, no track record of significant accomplishments. He is totally clueless about what Obama can deliver on or capable of.

Ya Crat3

Maybe the dood, whose been around the block several times, just knows Hills too well to endorse her.

See that's the flip side.

Well, of course the rats all leave when they think the ship is sinking, always looking out for themselves. Who cares? Obama will never be elected in the General Election - he's not electable. I am sick of the DNC and the Dems - My vote goes to McCain.

That's all right Lou...don;t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya. This weekend, Obama's grassroots will be in action registering people for the general bringing in even more people to the process. So I'll make sure my first signer cancels your vote out and all the rest of those I sign up this week will replace the traitors to the party. The Dems needed a good purge of the old school anyway. Good riddance. Obama '08

Bonior is a pro life Catholic much like Senator Casey and has strong links with unions and represented a blue collar district in Michigan. He did a lot of campaigning in Iowa for Edwards as he has ties to that state in that he attended the University of Iowa (he was a Hawkeye football player too) and he is someone who can talk to anyone whithout any trouble. Hopefully he can bring more people over from the Edwards campaign as well.

Lou, are you not a rat leaving the boat when you think it is sinking by going to vote for the old McCain? No, people who decide to support Obama are not rates, please stop insulting honorable men and women who have voted for Barak because they know his great american values, his vision, charactere and his leadership skills.Look at his campaign and how he has managed it, not like McCain who has to go to get a dark life insurrance to pay for his bankrupt camapaign or Hill the Bosnian General who is still borrowing money to her campaign only God's knows the interest rate on that 11 million. Obama's campaign is being managed in a very impressive way, that is the kind of leadership America needs now. God save America from old McCain and Hill the Bosnian General. God bless America and God save Obama. OBAMA08.

too bad the Edwards people who want a candidate who stands up for the poor, a candidate with a sensible, explicit strategy for clean energy and a safe environment AND a candidate with REAL solutions for America are backing the WRONG candidate!!

Posted by: DaneNM | May 8, 2008 10:11:38 PM

DaneNM, it's really sad that you think that Hillary Clinton would actually stand up for anybody. She acts according to the polls and can't make a decision own her own whether she wanted to or not. Hillary won't stand up for anybody but herself because she's just that selfish.

I'm just trying to figure out why ANYONE would want to be the President of the United States, not only at this particular time in our history BUT at any time! Amazing and hopefully whoever becomes our next President will be someone we look up to with respect and optimism for our country.

It makes me laugh when I read what people write about the lack of experience and knowledge Obama has. We are close to ending 2 terms with Bush--and look at where his knowledge and experience brought us. A war we can't win, can't exit and shouldn't have been in, higher gas prices, a country more divided blue states and red states where we are less safe, where you are no longer comfortable voicing your opinion--which might I add is your right, a middle class dwindling and a morgage cricis.

Bring on Obama--what he doesn't know, and I tend to think he knows plenty, he will make up in integrity, intelligence, leadership, inclusion, judgment, great advisors, a willingness to listen(unlike the deceider we have now) etc. It was Obama who voted against the war in the very beginning--clearly he knew something most of the congress and the President did not. He saw past the mob/blow them up mentality of 9/11 and was able to see the bigger picture--that this war would make us no safer, cost ou billions of dollars and place our sons and daughters in harms way

Michelle, GREAT POINT! You wrote: It makes me laugh when I read what people write about the lack of experience and knowledge Obama has. We are close to ending 2 terms with Bush--and look at where his knowledge and experience brought us.

Did our first president have any experience leading a country? Give it a damn rest.

Posted by: Irene | May 9, 2008 2:08:24 PM

I want her to continue!! Hillary Clinton is the person for me and the strength of this country. I am ashamed to call my self a democrat after the disloyalty this party has shown her. If Obama wins the nomination I will be voting for McCain and will change my party preference to independent. I can not vote or support a man who claims he has the experience and love to run this country when he can’t even manage to speak about or state what he really stands for. Nothing but complete and utter ignorance on his part and I for one do not trust him nor believe in him, despite what others are saying not all educated voters are voting for him. I am a proud and educated Latina who is choosing NOT to vote or support him. I am getting tired of people saying he is uniting the party. I for one do not and will not accept him as the nominee and I will support McCain.
