'Let's Move Forward', Axelrod Says of Clinton RFK Gaffe
May 25, 2008 11:34 AM
ABC News' Mary Bruce reports: Sen. Barack Obama's chief strategist asserted this morning that his campaign is not trying to stir up and prolong concern surrounding Sen. Hillary Clinton's comments on Robert F. Kennedy's assassination.
"As far as we're concerned, this issue is done,” Axelrod said in an exclusive appearance on ABC News’ “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.” “It was an unfortunate statement, as we said, as she's acknowledged. She has apologized. ... Let's move forward."
However, as recently as Saturday, Obama's campaign was bringing attention to the incident by sharing harsh commentary against Clinton from another television network.
On Friday, when referencing historical contests that have extended into June, Clinton explained, "We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California."
The Obama campaign initially reacted negatively, saying the comment was "unfortunate and has no place in this campaign."
Axelrod went on to say he believes the nomination contest is coming to a close.
“This isn't ‘American Idol,’ OK?” he said. “This is a nominating process. We have rules. We elect delegates state by state. Sen. Obama has built a lead over these six-- over these five months. And we expect on June 3 that this process will come to an end.”

The Obama team has run a very strategic, effective, well organized, and honest campaign. They have not opened Hillary's closet(garage)of skeletons and scandal. They are setting a great example and are rewriting conventional campaign wisdom. They have stayed in the realm of common sense and have not wandered into the land of pettiness.
This election is too important to vote on a candidate based on genitalia or skin color. We need a candidate who is skilled at bringing two very polarized sides together to accomplish the change this country desperately needs. We are tired of the gridlock and partisanship that is choking progress and the life from this country.
Other world leaders are watching this election unfold and most have expressed a belief that they could embrace a presidency of Barack Obama. He can repair the damage and restore the credibility we have lost through the deceit and incompetence of our current administration.
Democrats ,lets put aside our personal preferences and get behind the candidate that will be our nominee. We can`t afford four more years of madness.

"If Hillary receives the nomination, there would not be a revolution among the longterms DEMS that support her, so? Also, I find it interesting that the Obama supporters resort to threats of violence and revolution as part of the "Change" agenda. Dirty politics from the top all through. Threats, lies, propaganda = Obama/Axlerod strategy."
response:
There is a big difference between Hillary winning and Obama winning at this point. If Hillary manages to win, it will have been because she managed to have the rules changed in the 9th inning, which is dishonest, and the whole process would have been unfair.
Obama supporters would not revolt against her, but against what she did. Conversely, Obama has played by the DNC rules as is required. Why would you have a problem with that? I am an Obama supporter who happens to like Hillary Clinton, but if she plays dirty politics to win the nomination, it would be difficult to reward that kind of behavior.
When is comes down to it though, would we really elect McCain? No.

Clinton has the support of plenty of "college educated" voters, including myself -- IMHO, she has the support of the more rational, less idealistic voters, rather than those who are swayed by empty rhetoric, charisma, and the desire to appear politically correct. Based on the most recent state polls, if the election were held today, Clinton would beat McCain easily, and Obama would lose to McCain. Clinton owes it to the party and the nation to keep fighting for the nomination, because she will beat McCain, and she will be a more effective president than Obama.

After such an incomprehensible statement and half-hearted apology, Hillary Clinton has shown a complete lack of judgment. She is unfit to be a candidate for President of the United States. The real news is about Hillary's unconsciousness, not the Obama campaign response.

Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone. this stone-throwing has gone far enough. No one, being human, is perfect. That said, let's get on with the nomination and give Obama the support and time he needs to win back this country for the people.Would you rather be right or be happy? That is what, as Democrats, we must ask ourselves. I will be supremely happy to see the party of the people take back the White House and re-claim our integrity, dignity and respect in the world. Power to the people!!

Is it just me or is everyone else noticing how hysterical the pro-Hillary postings sound these days? Like they say, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." Apparently it's likewise true of the scorned woman's supporters.

yeah, this is done. Clinton and Obama need to figure out what to do about a joint ticket. Its time to stop nitpicking. Deal with FL and MI to decide who's on top and get this thing started.

Roger Miller-
As a Clinton supporter you should not be throwing the word "disrespectful" around so carelessly. It seems that you people have long-term memory loss. I believe that Clinton's moral behavior was a prime example of direspecful- for which he was impeached. And if Mrs. Clinton cannot take a stand for herself, outside of her political identiy, as a woman and slam Bill for his blatant disrespect, then how do you presume that she will stand up for our country in the global political arena>!?

Why are all of these Hillary supporters so delusional? Every time she messes up it is somehow Obama's and the media's fault! I can't help but get the feeling that many of them are in the denial stage of the grief process. We all know it sucks to lose something you really wanted to happen but stop blaming everybody else and get ready for President Obama!

T-Ross, How exactly Obama came into the picture when Ms. Clinton talked about RFF campaigning in June till his assassination in June. Well, you can use the same bloody logic to arrive at my conclusion.
I urge you to get that exam in place. We will definitely weed out the morons who live off Mom and Dad's money and keep repeating the word change after a typical Chicago politician or people who vote for some one who looks like them.

It was senseless for George to pursue the line of questioning he did with Axeldrod. Obama did NOTHING. This is all Clinton's problem. Furthermore, she has apologized to no one. She has put forth lies as excuses.
The interview was a pathetic waste of time.

1. Obama campaign stirred up the statement out of context on Friday.
2. Let media do their work and damage her.
3. Try to be nice after the media finish their job.
Do you think they run the clean and honest campaingn. No.
They are the same politics. HIllary's supporters will not vote this arrogant, dishonest candidate.
According all the polls, he is not unelectable.

cnnr opined: "Just think about what the situation would be reversed?"
There wouldn't have been anything said at all. It's just you racist card people that made an issue of it, something she has said repeatedly and there is nothing wrong with it and nothing to apologize for. Of course if she offended any of you twits, then she cetainly didn't mean to.

T Ross,
Your statement that "Let me assure you that the last time I checked, both knowledge and the truth are free to those who desire them" applies to "people who vote for some one who looks like them" is particularly revealing about your cognitive ability.
I would like to see you post that you stand corrected and "people who vote for some one who looks like them" should be condemned.

Unfortunately many of the Hillary supporters appear to be willing to damage their own self interest and vote for a man who has promised ultraconservative jurist if given the opportunity. They sound as if they will do everything in their power to destroy Obama, because he had the audacity to win in the primary that Hillary had declared to be hers. This is just classic "cutting of one's nose to spite one's face". It isn't logical, but it is vindictive.

Obama stirred this up? Hillary knew what she did and went back out to reporters pretty much right away for damage control, and wrote a miserable Op Ed today with no apologies.
If Obama had said this do you think she would have let it go? I think "bittergate" teaches us, absolutely not. She'd have gnawed his leg off herself.

Wow, Clinton posters. You're going to vote for McCain? Make up things that you are mad about? Ignore the fact the the Obama campaign has been clean, the Hillary one dirty? What's to be mad about except that your candidate lost? Is that a good reason? That hasn't happened before? Is that mature? What about the country?
Look deeply into your souls, be honest, and be good citizens.

I see Obama supporters are still hopping all over Clinton for remarks made in a lapse. I am so sick of this non-story. I don't know who these Obama people think are going to vote for their candidate but Democrats and when they keep insulting Hillary supporters with stunning regularity, it becomes very difficult for Hillary people to even consider voting for him in November. It is too much like eating crow.

Nothing to apologize for. She handled it correctly by mollifying the race card twits.

Wasn't made in a lapse, wasn't careless as Obama tried to spin it. She's referred to it before, it was a memorable traumatic even in June when Bobby won the California primary.
She was answering a question, and the editors did not react as Obama's race card campaign did.
But what else would expect from Obama and Axelrod.
