McCain's Veepstakes Survivor: 9 Couples, 3 Contenders, 1 Weekend

ABC News' Ron Claiborne and Bret Hovell Report: Three elected officials widely rumored to be under consideration for the Republican vice presidential nomination will spend part of their Memorial Day weekend at the McCain compound in Sedona, Arizona, according to a campaign official.

Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Gov. Charlie Christ of Florida, and former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts have all been invited to spend some leisure time with presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

McCain campaign senior advisor Charlie Black insists the gathering is purely social.

"It has nothing whatsoever to do with the vice presidential selection process," Black said, dismissing speculation that it is a running mate audition by noting that would be "pretty awkward" to have all of the contenders together at the same time.

McCain frequently invites friends and elected officials to the property he owns with his wife Cindy two hours north of Phoenix. Black said nine couples in all were invited this weekend, including one other elected official whom he declined to identify.

One veepstakes contender did comment on what could be called McCain's edition of 'Veepstakes Survivor'.

"Governor Bobby Jindal and First Lady Supriya Jindal are going to Arizona for the Memorial Day weekend to spend time with Senator John McCain and Cindy McCain at their ranch," Jindal spokesperson Melissa Sellers said in a statement released to the press. "The Governor has met with the Senator many times before and discussed the challenges facing the Gulf Coast region as communities continue to rebuild. The Governor looks forward to joining Senator McCain and his other guests this weekend, and he values this as another opportunity to meet with a national leader, and the potential next President of the United States, to discuss issues important to the future growth of Louisiana."

As Sens. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., continue their battle for the Democratic nomination, the Arizona Senator is taking three days off from his public campaign schedule for the holiday weekend.  McCain will be back on the trail Monday in New Mexico and Colorado.

If John McCain picks Mitt "I can flip flop on ANY issue" Romney, I and MANY like me, will WALK!

Listen McCain: NO ROMNEY!

The only guy with any following is Newt Gingrich. If McCain is not afraid of having somebody that is a STRONG Republican, he needs Newt. If he wants a "Yes" boy - take anybody else.

McCain Hillary wins it all...stop H. Obama!

Regardless of who McBush picks it will only make it apparent what a flip-flopper McBush is. The tendency will be to point out the similarities on the issues between him and his VP choice, but this will require us to know which version of McCain's stance are we talking about. Was it when he thought the war was bad or now that it is good. Was the time he was against the tax cuts or now that he is for them? Is the when he wanted to talk to Hamas or when he says he is against it. His VP choice will only make it apparent that the double-talk express has lost a few wheels.

How about Quincy Magoo?

Governor Bobby Jindal will be great choice. He is an Indian Origin, converted from Hinduism to Catholicism at age 14. He made changes and achieved at age 36 than what most of politicians achieved in their political life.

If Hillary is on the Dem ticket in either place McCain might need to consider a woman. How about Bo Derek? She's a conservative Republican, bright, speaks well, and would lock up just about every hetero male vote in America as well...

McCain and Jindal for 2008

Posted by: Nestor | May 21, 2008 8:03:52 PM

While Jindal may be a great choice he does make it very apparent that McCain is old. He may also antagonize much of the racist vote which is a core constituency for McCain.

I think McCain is trying to rebuild the party not pick a VP. I'm trying to give McCain a chance. He may have my vote in Nov...I'm not voting for Obama at any rate.

Bush for third term vote for McCain.

Posted by: HillBilli | May 21, 2008 8:15:57 PM

Since John McCain's voice of late has sounded a great deal like the worm "Joe Lieberman,"...I say it is very possible that Lieberman is McCain's VP of choice.

McCain is not Bush. You will see in detail in voting records.
for example

1. Which republican asked the President to fire Rumsfield, It was McCain
2. Who was telling to send more troops to bring peace to Iraq, McCain.

I can list hundreds of difference

McCain + Hillary

Without Huckabee, there will be no Republicans living at Pennsylvania Ave.
Look at the v.p. polls....Huckabee is winning every one of them by leaps and bounds...the people have spoken and the people, ultimately, will be the ones to vote. No Huckabee...no McCain presidency! It's as simple as that!

John and Mitt, forget it. The only people supporting Romney were the Hilliary-lites, and the commentators (Limbaugh, Hannity, and all of the other HACKS) who do radio for Clear Channell, which Romney's investment firm bought in the middle of the campiagn to try to buy off the media and swoon the "Dittoheads." And as for Jindal, see Barack Obama for how that's gonna work out. Not only will the conservatives stay home, but the "base" (think hard) will be about as receptive to him as they are to Obama. If Republicans didn't have enough of a reason to back Hilliary before Obama. If she pulls some trick and gets it, I'm sure they'll RUN towards her so fast it'll make Rush Limbaugh's head spin. And if it's Obama vs. McCain and Jindall... they WILL stay home. McCain isn't a conservative anyway, and they SURE won't trust Jindall. No matter what McCain says. Better stick with Christ, OOPS! I mean Crist, Johnny! No matter what he does, McCain won't rally the base. Obama will win. They will just stay home. Just ask Rush, and the rest of the HACKS! They'll tell you.

Mitt will be the good choice for me. He would eliminate entirely the capital gains taxes - where most of our dreams live in. What else would you ask for? Obama? He would instead raise heavily all the capital gain taxes, enough to say that he has no clue how we poor middle class families' pain! NoBama 2008!
