Obama Says General Election Starts After Tuesday's Results
May 28, 2008 10:56 PM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports: Sen. Barack Obama has high hopes for the results of the last primary contests on Tuesday: He believes that will likely mark the start of the general election.
Asked aboard his plane returning to Chicago from Colorado if the general election will begin after Tuesday’s voting in South Dakota and Montana, Obama answered in one word: "Yes."
Obama said he believes at that point he will be the nominee. But with three primary contests left -- Puerto Rico on Sunday and Montana and South Dakota on Tuesday -- Obama is still couching his prognosis ever so slightly.
"You know, it’s technically not over until we have the number of delegates needed to secure the nomination," Obama said of the 2026 delegates needed. "Once we have that number, we will focus on the general election."
The Obama campaign has no doubt been running a general election campaign for the last few weeks: campaigning in general election states and singling out the presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain more than his Democratic rival, Sen. Hillary Clinton -– a strategy that caused some to question the patience of a candidate that is still involved in a battle for the democratic nomination.
"We are only a few days away," Obama told reporters. "We have waited this long. We can wait a while longer."

georgia, I'm not playing the race card. If you don't think those states are racist then you're living in a dream world. And the popular vote doesn't matter, it's the delegates. I guess you're doing Hillary math.

Hillary has put together a winning coalition,
Excellent post.
Thanks

I have been voting for 30 years and have never voted republican in a presidential election. Friends and family consider me extremely liberal. However, I love my country dearly and for the FIRST TIME in my life I am EXTREMELY WORRIED and CONCERNED. Most people in this election have turned it into a "first black or first woman issue" instead of asking the hard questions about who we really need to lead this country at such a troubled time. Unfortunately, I don’t think the ture “right person” is involved in this election. However, when I look at the voting records of all parties involved, Obama scares me to death! I have heard the Republicans saying for the past year, "this is the democrat's election to lose" and said yea, right, they wish! However, I now have a tendency to believe them. I thought the Democratic Party would be smarter than this. I have not heard anything solid and substantial come from Obama, and his record does not even come close to his words - lot of adage for the old saying "actions speaks louder than words". For all democrats out there, you had better believe the Repulicans will be hitting these discrepancies hot and heavy come fall. They will also be pointing out that Obama was raised Muslim and there is a real concern here that should be raised. The lack of value of human life and no respect for individual rights in the Muslim religion are very obvious to every true American. I know that even though I have never voted Republican in a Presidential election and thought I would never even consider voting republican, because of my love for this country and the "knowns and unknowns" of Obama, I cannot vote for him in the presidential election. This has nothing to do with "black or woman" but the security of this country and the welfare of my children. Our country is in such a fragile state currently, we cannot afford a risk such as Obama! Where there is smoke there is usually fire and we absolutely cannot afford a fire. I would encourage everyone to read the article "a Black Columist on O'Bama" by Ken Blackwell - Columnist for the New York Sun and really think this through and evaluate "What can I do for my Country"!

I can see the point of counting Florida votes but how can anyone possibly say let's count Hillary's "win" in Michigan when Obama wasn't even on the ballot? How is that a win when your opponent isn't even in the contest? Come on people it's common sense.

I hate the republican policies too. Terrorism is down 40% and no attacks on US soil since 9/11. I blame it on Bush. It's a disgrace.

So answer this: how many of the pro-Hillary commentors on this string were asked to do so by the campaign, or were fed their information by the campaign?
Folks, I donated the max to Hillary and voted for her in my state's primary. But for those of you who are still pushing her, even when the only way she can win is if superdelegates vote contrary to the pledged delegates won in primaries and caucuses, I have two words: RALPH NADER.
Hillary can go back to the Senate and be the Ted Kennedy of her generation, or she can keep up this fight and become the Nader of 08.

Nader it is, then.

I'm sick of all this pro-Hillary spam, it's a nuisance. Whoever moderates these comments should ban that garbage.

i think all of you woman have gone off the deep end with hillary man she has really brainwashed you just like bush brained washed people with his fear tacticts cmon ladies snap outof it back to reality hillary could care less about you the only thing that woman cares about is being the first woman president well you all better wake up before you vote for mccain and 2 or 3 years from that realize you made a horrible mistake

Chances are that the DNC will seat at least 50% of the Florida and Michigan delegates. Still, this process has been rigged from the beginning by the latte-left in concert with the DNC. They engineered the process to advantage Obama.
For the first time in my adult life, I'm not proud of being a Democrat.

Also, if you are a so called Democrat or don't agree with the Bush/McCain policies and don't vote for the Democratic nominee, no matter who they are, you are just a little whiny crybaby that doesn't want to play cause their person didn't win. You're gonna take your toys and go home. Might as well have some five year olds voting. You weren't a true Democrat anyway and obviously aren't sick of the GOP policies so you might as well vote Republican. Since McCain is such a better choice with all of his policies than the "other" Democrat that beat your candidate out for the nomination.

I wonder who is behind the scandal book affair by Scott Mc Clellan?
What drove him to write that book?

Me
you will put up with Hillary supporters like we try to put up with you Obama is the wrong candidate period for the GE and you know it... just go away!

Yes Jo, Bush is a disgrace. Where have you been, your head in the sand. He has us in a war that we should have never been in and thousands have died. What do you have to say about that. Yeah, I blame it on Bush, Rove and Cheney. They should be impeached.

If Hillary can manage to trainwreck her own campaign so badly, squandering huge leads in the polls and also run her campaign into such huge debt, how on earth do you expect her to run America? Obama's campaign has been very efficient and effective, and this is why he would be a better president.
Posted by: John | May 29, 2008 12:06:20 AM
Lisa,
What do I have to say about that? I have to say terrorism is down 40% and no attacks on US soil since 9/11.
Gee, maybe everyone knows we mean what we say now. Maybe we aren't looking as "weak" as we use to.
Thanks for asking. Glad to fill you in on reality.

Who is Obama?
How dare he say that?
Why he wants to be president so eagerly?

All Hillary has been able to accomplish with her delusional chance at winning the nomination is stealing time, money, and effort away from supporting the obvious nominee, Obama!
She has become a thorn in the Democratic Party’s side!
Please, please, please go away Hillary!
Hillary, the Queen of Spin and a Legend in Her Own Mind!

Joan, Elle, Sam, Sandyb, Jessica and Emily or maybe you're the same people. When i listen to the language that's being used, its no wonder Hillary is a "dead girl walking.'' You all are low class, racist, classless, moon-bats who like Hillary believe the world is entitled to u. Siting polls and threatening to vote for McCain is counterproductive. Lol...Who are u hurting? Not me, not his supporters or Mr. Obama. Your hurting yourselves. How is voting McCain in office for bush's third-term going to help you, your family and your lively-hood? Hillary supporters self loathing attitudes towards this entire primary process has been absolutely toxic. Do us mathematicans a favor and tell Hillary throw in the towel on June 4 and embrace Obama; and maybe, just maybe we will allow Hillary to be Obama's running-mate.
