Obama Won't Wait for Clinton Concession
May 31, 2008 8:57 PM
ABC News' Teddy Davis and Karen Travers Report: The Obama campaign is not worried about the tempest that erupted at a Washington, D.C., hotel on Saturday when top Clinton adviser Harold Ickes threatened to take the fight over Michigan's delegates all the way to the convention.
"He said 'reserve the right,' not that he was going to do it," said Obama adviser Anita Dunn. "They have to get through the next three days. I've been there before."
Now that the Democratic National Committee's Rules and Bylaws Committee has decided what to do with the Florida and Michigan delegations, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., is 68 delegates away from clinching the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, according to the ABC News delegate estimate.
Obama's campaign expects to win around 38 delegates in the final three contests of Puerto Rico, South Dakota, and Montana. If he hits that mark, it would leave him 30 superdelegates away from his party's nod.
The Obama campaign is pushing superdelegates to come on board by Tuesday so that Obama can claim his party's presidential nomination when he speaks that evening at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
The site was chosen because it is the same place where Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., will formally receive the GOP's presidential nomination in early September.
Asked if Obama would wait to get a concession call from Clinton before claiming the nomination, Dunn said the onus was on Clinton now that the Democratic Party has firmed up the number of delegates needed to claim the party's nod.
"He's not going to wait by the phone like a high-school girl waiting for a date," said Dunn. "That's not Barack Obama."
"After Tuesday," Dunn added, referring to the final contests of South Dakota and Montana, Clinton "can decide how united she wants this party to be."

Democrats losing every 4 years.
Have you ask yourself.
Why????????????????????????????
Because they nominate left wing
liberals.
This year is no difference.Actually
is worst.Because the nominee is a black
muslim with ties to anti-american
people.

The Democratic Party Screwed the public today. I hope to see the democratic party dissolve away into nothingness. They are run by the most crooked corrupt dishonest politicians. What else could we expect. Democrat No More.

hillary clinton was fighting for voters she said, and for the states
the states won their proposals, get to go to the convention, and are happy with the outcome as said by the michigan DNC member...
so everyone is happy, obama gave some, the democratic party in the states got what they wanted, and hillary clinton and her supporters should see this as a very good compromise
if they are interested in party unity then they will be happy with these rulings,
if they are not, then
1. you are a republican trolling
2. not intrested in party unity and just think we hsould ignore all the rules and just hand hillary clinton the person who lost the election becuase she is a clinton
i think everyone got something today, and the two states are resolved
its a good thing right?

The band of 300 Athenians, led by General Leonidas, would have been proud to support Hillary Clinton. She shall not give up the fight!

Like South Carolina breaking the rules and moving up? Like New Hampshire breaking the rules and moving up again?
The only precedent this has set is 10 million to 17 million Hillary supporters tearing up their Democratic Party cards and going independent.
This is one Florida Dem here who is unregistering as Democratic.
Obama will join the list of Dem losers. Fitting, since McGovern, Carter, and Kerry endorsed him.
They know all about being losers.

Obama will have the needed amount of delegates on Tuesday...guaranteed.

And to think I used to support her. I still think she is a fighter though but her fights no longer represent the wish of any thinking Democrat.I cannot afford another Bush third term. My needs have increased but my resources have dwindled.

Unbelievable...
at the beginning of this year Hillary said the FL and MI votes would not going to count for anything...
now the delegates are all seated and Hillary gets a net gain of almost 25 delegates, which is twice her gain from her win in PA...
so they DID count, these votes...
so, is Obama protesting?
he has a lot of reasons to do so...
but HE isn't, HILLARY is...
unbelievable

Clinton supporters using GANG tactics will not win. Put your support behind your party or except the fact that YOU will be the cause if we lose in November.

It takes Obama too long to move away from things he should turn his back on such as his church. The whole church cheered preacher Wright and the whole church cheered the crazy priest. That doesn't say much for that congregation and those are the same people Obama and Mitchell loved for 20 years. It took Obama a long, long time to decide to wear the American flag, and I wonder if he has decided to put his hand over his heart when the National Anthem is being played or the pledge of allegience is given.
The Democratic Party along with the so call news people have been pushing Obama for months. They have been trying to get Hillary to give up, all of them talking as though she doesn't have the right to go all the way to the convention. I hope she goes all the way to the Convention and then some.
I refuse to vote for Obama not because of his race which is half and half, but his demeanor, his whinning about anyone who says anything against him and makes it a racial thing, his weaknesses, his sitting in a church for 20 years listening to a hate monger who preached hate for Country and for anyone not black, etc. There are many reasons not to vote for him other than race but his supporters can only think race.

Yavo wrote: "So, in my book, [Gore] is no loser, but George W. Bush is."
yes, I agree with your reasoning, Yavo. Gore shouldn't be on the loser list. Obama will be joining it though.
Somewhere between McGovern or Carter and Dukakis.

Had Obama been satisfied getting the 55 uncommitted delegates in Michigan, I'd have been reluctantly satisfied, even though he took his name off the ballot voluntarily and had robo-calls going into Michigan urging people to "vote uncommitted," a violation of rule and principle.
However -- he ended up with two extra full delegates (half of four delegates, because only half the Michigan votes will count) that he did not earn under any circumstances.
How is this fair, moral, or just?
How can anyone make the case this makes any sense?
How can anyone say this reflects Democracy in action?
I am disgusted by this action and do not see it as promoting "party unity" in any way, shape, or form.
I see this as promoting division, instead.
I see this as undemocratic. I see this as unjust.
And I will never approve of it.

bharandon,
I agree, Democracy won today. For the first time in history Hillary Clinton is officially recognized for having won more Democratic votes in a presidential nominating process, than any other candidate in over 200 years of history. That is phenomenal. Obama* wins an asterik as the second choice of the Democratic majority. Now he can go campaign in peace for the general caucus in November. Where is that general caucus held, by the way?
=======================================
Obama* gets a well-deserved asterik!

NO! Not again!

rd south carolina was given a status to go early after a long diliberation by that committee you should have watched today
it would have informed you of what went on without campaign spin attached
and you would have realized that the democratic party of each state got what they wanted, and the campaigns will have to make a compromise.
if the states are happy, then the campaigns should be happy
especially hillary since she netted 20 some delegates today
and her whole argument has been that these contests count..
and they do
every vote counts!!!
so this should be over, democrats are ready to unite
Posted by: bhrandon | May 31, 2008 9:48:46 PM
Hillary should be thankful she got half delegates. If it were up to most of us, we would hold Hillary to the agreement that the states should not count because they violated the rules. Period.
As for the morons who want to vote McCain to show their displeasure, go ahead. You will get just what you deserve. Your children will be going to Iraq next, you MORONS.
