What's Taboo for Senator Obama?
May 09, 2008 7:52 AM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Sometimes even politicians need a break from the game of politics.
Aboard his 757 airplane en route for five hours from Washington, D.C. to Oregon, Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama opted for a new game: Taboo. Obama was challenged to a press corps versus Obama staff game to pass some in flight time.
Called "the game of unspeakable fun, the Hasbro board game is a regular pastime for journalists traveling on Obama's plane, trying to pass the time during the rare moments when blackberry service is out of range. Players have to get their team to guess a secret word without saying the common words usually used to describe it. (For example, how do you get your team to guess the word 'birthday' without saying 'happy', 'anniversary', 'candles, 'presents', or 'cake'?)
The competitive senator quickly got into the game, cheering on staff members, handing out high fives to his team, and checking the score religiously after each turn.
Obama led his team to guess words such as "cockatoo (describing it as something that mimics human sounds, and has plumage) and "throw", jokingly suggesting he'd cut off access to the reporter acting as his Taboo referee.
While Obama was trying to get his staff to guess the word "revolution" he said, "Thomas Jefferson called for this every now and then."
Blank stares from his staff made him rephrase his clues, "Maybe that's a little too obscure" he admitted laughing and opted to describe it as a song by the Beatles, which his communications director quickly guessed correctly.
When the tables were turned, and Obama was guessing the word, the clue given by an Obama staffer was, "This is where gay people shop."
Obama staffers yelled out different stores and Obama guessed the popular teenage clothing store Abercrombie and Fitch. The answer was Gap.
When it was the press' turn many of the clues were a little more political in nature, pointed to the campaign they’d been covering for months.
One reporter, trying to get the team to guess the word "California," used Senator Obama as an example, "This is where Senator Obama said his bitter comments," referring to the controversial remarks Obama made at a San Francisco fundraiser where he said small town Pennsylvania voters are bitter, clinging to guns and religion.
"I came back here to get away from this," Obama retorted in the middle of the round, slightly annoyed at the reprise of the controversy, "You dragged me back to these painful memories."
Another reporter, leading the press team to guess the word "white house" said, "This is where Senator Obama wants to live." The correct guesses enlisted a more favorable response from the Senator.
In the end the Obama campaign beat the press in two games, (25-17, and 20-18).
"And you guys are the wordsmiths?" Obama said ribbing the press for their poor showing as he returned to his cabin at the front of the plane.

I enjoyed that post so much as you get to learn something admirable about Sen. Obama! However, I am astonished that more reporters and writers have not come out in outrage at Hillary's very offensive remarks about whites not supporting Barack which in reality she is alluding to racism. I am amazed at how she has been able to divide this country by race and gender with no apparent objections from the thinking public or congressman or reporters, that she has been able to run amuck like a hurricane or tornado and do damage with no one trying to stop it! Barack's message and actions have been one of Uniting, while Hillary's has been one of Division! I am proud of Peggy Noonan's writing who does speak against these racist remarks of Hillary's who is not only tearing the Democatic party apart but also the nation.

what Hillary said is not racist its just a fact and How Hillary Wins ... I think she will do exactly that run as an independant and embarrass both Mccain and Obama!

Running as an independent would be the biggest gift from Hillary to McCain, even bigger than all the endorsements she has given him throughout the primary.

This mornings paper she she DESERVED to be president ....wow trying to figure that one out...She is the elite and proved it by her statement she is the only one who can win whites, older, etcccc seems to me some had to vote for Obama to win as big as he did and come that close to her in IND gads it was only 2% something like 15.000 votes not to shabby in my book.

i'm sure that some if not most of those "less educated, lower income white voters" are offended by hillary's suggestion that they are bigots and wouldn't vote for a black man. she does not speak for those good, God fearing people.

they derserve more credit than hillary gives them. God bless her supporters and 4give hillary...i hope she didn't mean it like it sounded.

THis is news because Obama learned some new words other than Hope, Change and YES WE CAN.

exactly right why dont the republicans come out and say theyd rather run against Obama than Hillary but Mccain is still better than Obama Obama people are inept the only reason they are ahead is that they wont seat the FL and Mi delegations and the Clinton campaign didnt contest the caucuses which only had 1 million votes out of 34 million cast!
Posted by: staniam | May 9, 2008 9:08:47 AM
Hillary has carried just about every state that we need to win in November. Are these superdelagates that stupid? If they don't seat FL and MI they have really screwed themselves.
Posted by: J | May 9, 2008 9:21:30 AM
Stanley
One other thing, there is a deal on table that MI and Obama have agreed to regarding seating Michigan Delegates.
Hillary is blocking it.
Why does Hillary hate the voters of Michigan? Why does she want to disenfranchise these noble people.
Why all the hate Stanley?
The answer is that Hillary does not care about Michigan. Hillary cares about Hillary.

I'm old. I'm white. I don't have much money. I don't live in a big town. I've made many sacrifices for my kids. I'm definitely not racist. I don't care what color Barack's skin is. I really don't care that he is either half- black or half-white, depending upon how you look at it. My vote is with Obama. I want a democrat to win this national election, and I'm not about to support this McSame guy just because he's old like me. I want out of Bush's war. I want the oil companies to pay their fair share in taxes. I want other people to have good health care like I've got from Medicare. I don't want McCain and his lobbyists looking out for the oil company's special interests. I've always thought Obama was the best person to do take McCain on. He's clearly a weak candidate, even thoght we acknowledge the service he's paid to the country, just like we did for Bob Dole. It didn't make him a winner, did it? I know there are bound to be some others out there that feel like I do. Wy would anyone vote for McCain? He's not going to make the country safer. The guy is just not smart enough to do it. Certainly, keeping us n Iraq is not making us a safer nation. No way.

I think the Democratic primaries should change to the Republican way such as winner gets all the delegates versus all this division crap and caucuses which are very unfair. These primaries would be over and we could move on past all this stupid bickering over candidates. I can't wait for this whole election to be over.

I guess in 2008 we no longer count all the votes, at least in states where it's politically strategic to not do so, such as Florida.
That must be what Obama meant by change.

The Internets told me about the Michigan Compromise of 69-59. Links are not allowed on this board so I provide none.
Hillary will not compromise and demands 73-0 allocation. It is all or nothing with her. So Michigan may suffer the consequences.
What does Hillary have against Michigan?
Posted by: The Commander Guy | May 9, 2008 9:45:17 AM
The Clintons are showing themselves to be like "elite" spoiled rich kids who just have to have their own way. When you can't get it, throw a fit, yell at the spoilers in the crowd, and rant over what is at fault. They cannot begin to realize that the "fault" is within themselves. They are yesterday's drama. Obama is "Hope for tomorrow".
Posted by: Vel Champion | May 9, 2008 9:45:38 AM
if we had a winner takes all primary system Hillary would have taken the nomination a long time ago.

Commander guy is right... Clinton is the one not backing down now...she wants all the delegates from Michigan even though that would give Obama "0"
Yeah... she cared about the voters... she cares about her votes.
