Cindy McCain Presses Obama Patriotism Case
June 18, 2008 4:46 PM
ABC News' Ed O'Keefe Reports: Laura Bush may be ready to give Michelle Obama the benefit of the doubt when it comes to her patriotism but Cindy McCain may not.
"I don't know why she said what she said," Mrs. McCain explains in an interview with ABC News' Kate Snow airing on "Good Morning America" Thursday. "Everyone has their own experience. I don't know why she said what she said, all I know is that I have always been proud of my country."
WATCH "GOOD MORNING AMERICA" THURSDAY ON ABC TO SEE KATE SNOW'S INTERVIEW WITH CINDY MCCAIN.
Snow asked McCain if she was "insulted when Michelle Obama said she was proud of her country for the first time", referencing remarks Obama made at a Wisconsin rally during her husband's fight for the Democratic presidential nomination against Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y.
"For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of country not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change," Mrs. Obama told the Madison crowd, sparking outrage from conservative critics and fodder for an online ad produced by the Republican party in Tennessee.
In a rare move, Mrs. McCain also challenged Mrs. Obama's remark, saying as she introduced her husband at a rally shortly after Obama's remarks, "I'm proud of my country, I don't know if you heard those words earlier. I'm very proud of my country."
In subsequent interviews, Obama attempted to clarify her remarks -- something she did again in her appearance as a co-host of ABC's daytime talk show "The View".
Obama insisted she is "proud of my country, without a doubt," going on to explain "I'm a girl who grew up in a working-class neighborhood in Chicago and let me tell you, of course I'm proud. What I was talking about is pride in the political process."
Patriotism might not be the only skirmish between the potential first spouses this election year. In the interview airing on "Good Morning America" Thursday, McCain didn't shy away from political questions.
Asked by Snow if she would feel safe with Obama as president, McCain replied, "I would feel safe with my husband as president . . .I think Barack Obama is a fine man and Michelle Obama is a fine woman (but) this is about who would be better and I think my husband would be better."
Mrs. McCain is currently touring Vietnam in support of Operation Smile, a non-profit organization that provides facial reconstruction surgery.
ABC News' Bret Hovell, Sunlen Miller, Jake Tapper, and Jennifer Parker contributed to this report.

Was she wearing a Flag Pin, though?
That's what I want to know.

Cindy I think you need to spend more time keeping Johnny on the porch, if you know what I mean. It's amazing that she is continuing to bankroll his failed campaign when he's out doing what powerful old men do with expensive, younger women at their beck and call. I simply don't know which one between the two, that I should pity more. What a sad and disgraceful lot those two. Naturally they'll end up as President and first lady, and more than likely follow in the Clintons footsteps
continuing to preserve such a wretched example that they began some 15 years ago.

I wonder why the didn't ask her about the latest HERSHEY RECIPE, to see if she would blame it on another intern.
LOL.

Cindy McCain has no room to talk about anybody considering her past. She has no class at all.

Was Mccain once again on stolen pills when she made those comments. That might explain why she always comes across as some white trash, fixed on Botox, with mindless eyes.

People always comment about Cindy McCain and her prior addiction to prescription pain killers following a back injury. No one EVER talks about how Barkey himself used coke and weed for years. What do you call someone who uses coke and weed? A CRACKPOT!!

And Cindy, my advice to you is to ease up a little on that prenup (prenuptial agreement). Give the man some benefit of the doubt; after all, he is now running for president, and you would not expect the people of America to trust your husband with their economy, when you yourself wouldn't trust him with yours.

The Last 8 years haven't given many of us reason to be proud.
I guess $100 million would make anyone proud.

FoxyBrown, you do realize that people are less upset that Cindy McCain used drugs, and more upset that she stole them from a nonprofit that she had founded to help needy children, right?
However Obama got his drugs (which he has openly admitted to in his books, by the way) I'm pretty sure he didn't steal them from little kids, especially not after founding the organization that was used to purchase those drugs in the first place.
If there *is* a nonprofit that supplies needy kids with marijuana... man now I've seen everything!

It's not about who wears what, it is about hypocrisy.
This phony first said he cares less of wearing it, to pander the far left moveon.com for endorsement, and then, seeing he succeeded his Affirmative Action nomination, he put it on, to pander the public.
It's hypocrisy at display that is most distasteful, purely for the purpose of deceiving voters.

This is unprovoked cattiness. Cindy McCain has never been an Obama target. This will surely backfire.

This from a plastic, pasty smile Stepford Wife who has nothing better to do than STEAL recipes! John needs to stuff one of her plagarized reciepes in her mouth and tell her to SHUT UP!
