Clinton Says No Nominee on Tuesday -- Makes Direct Appeal to Superdelegates

ABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., thanked Puerto Ricans Sunday night for helping her to victory on the island where she spent five days campaigning, saying “Te quiero Puerto Rico!” Her real message, however, was to the undecided superdelegates who Clinton hopes will veer her way to salvage her campaign.

Clinton’s main argument is that she is leading in the popular vote, saying this evening, “More people across the country have voted for our campaign. More people have voted for us than for any candidate in the history of presidential politics. We are winning the popular vote. Now there can be no doubt. The people have spoken, you have chosen your candidate.”

The senator argued that there will not be a nominee on Tuesday saying, “So, when the voting concludes on Tuesday, neither Sen. Obama nor I will have the number of delegates to be the nominee. I will lead the popular vote, he will maintain a slight lead in the delegate count. The decision will fall on the shoulders of those leaders in our party, empowered by the rules, to vote at the Democratic convention.

Speaking directly to superdelegates, Clinton said, “I do not envy the decision you must make. But the decision has to be made. And in the final assessment, I ask you to consider these questions. Which candidate best represents the will of the people who voted?” Clinton said. “Which candidate can best lead us to victory in November, and which candidate is best able to lead our nation as our president in the face of unprecedented challenges at home and abroad?”

Clinton, as she has done for the past four election day speeches, made a direct appeal for money, urging people to go to her Web site.  “I cannot complete this journey without your help. We have two contests left. We have South Dakota and Montana, and you can make a difference by visiting hillaryclinton.com.”

Pop singer Ricky Martin, who endorsed Clinton, blasted through the speakers as she entered and exited the stage. She swayed back and forth to the music with her Puerto Rican co-chairs. Clinton now embarks on a seven-hour red-eye flight to South Dakota where she will spend the day campaigning tomorrow.

She has only won the popular vote according to her rules which we know can change at the drop of a hat.

TOO BAD

Dean and company have already stacked the deck and Hillary will lose. You can take it to the bank!

No one will win the nominee by just pledge delegates BUT

SDs will put Obama over the top

You people are so boring...yeah, right, Hillary made up the rules. Tell me, what rule on earth takes 4 delegates from someone who has won them, and gives them to someone who wasn't even in a contest?

Now that's not only bending the rules, that is true creation of rules.

Obama is a loser.

I find it funny she keeps talking about count all 50 states, but her popular vote total doesn't count all states or voters.

She doesn't count the caucus states where people went out of their way to vote for her and Obama.

She is ahead only by her screwed up math. If you run it through a real calculator she is behind... period.

Democrats like to lose. Either that or they have almost no idea about what MOST of America stands for and wants.

Far left whackos are NOT what MOST Americans want. Obama is a far left whacko.

Hillary or McCain 08!!

Thomas:

No nominee EVER wins the nomination with have a Super Delegate count on their side.

The only difference here is that they split the delegates pretty evenly and it wil take 20 Super Delagates for him to win.

These 20 could have endorsed months ago and it would of been pledged delegates putting him over on tues/wed.

Just a couple more days and this will all be over.

Hoping for a Obama/Webb ticket for the Fall.

I think that ticket could definitely win the general election.

Dean and the news media have stacked the deck. The news media just skims over every contest where Hillary has won by a landslide or they spin it to say Obama is gaining. I guess the media is afraid to let the news get out that once again she has won with a 36 point advantage. You can bet that if their darling Obama had won it would be "Hillary trounced" and it would have been the lead story infront of a movie studio fire. I find it amazing the power these network news editors think they have when the real, and complete news is at our fingertips.

You know Hillary is has become apparent that you are starting to believe your own fairy tale lies now.

When June 3rd come if not sooner the super delegate have already started pledging your opponent. He receive one this morning, three this afternoon, and who knows this evening may be alot more.

Hillary you lost this race. It's done, over, gone. You cannot take your pleas to the convention it just won't happen.

I am:

The rule that says that Obama (and Edwards) was more faithful to the process than Hillabeans, who first said the votes didn't count, then said they did.

The rule that says that some voters voted for Hillabeans because she was on the ballot and they didn't want to vote for "uncommitted."

The rule that says if there had been a revote, Obama would have won the primary.

The rule that says the Obama reps could have pushed for 50-50 split and gotten 9 more delegates (4.5 votes), but did not IN THE INTEREST OF PARTY UNITY, something which was lacking from the Clinton camp yesterday!

The rule that says the vote didn't count, so Hillabeans should be thankful for ANYTHING she gets out of Michigan, and still doesn't stand a chance of getting the nomination.

Those rules.

Obama 2008 -- Yes, WE CAN!!!

The delegates super or not have the right to change their mind even at the convention.
Hillary won the popular vote and if the pledged delegates go as their voters did she would win the delegate count too.

What the delegates should concentrate on who has the better chance in November and with the GOP ads with Pfleger's and Wright's anti-white and antisemitic video-clips with subtitles “Obama gave $200,000 earmark to his church” as opposed to McCain not asking for earmarks it will be hard if not impossible for Obama to win.

She has gone over the deep end. She just won in a 'territory' that cannot even vote in the general election. The only way she is ahead in the popular vote is if you count the states she wants to count and leave the caucus states out...count every vote my lily white @$$. She has changed the rules so many times I'm surprised she even remembers what they are.

It's time for the Clinton's to GO.

Obama people, you and I need to be kind to Hillary voters, because we WILL NEED THEM to get Barack into office, and also because it is NOT NICE to kick a person when she's down. We can remind the Hillary voters that they need to see reality but we shouldn't put them down or insult them. Who knows what will be. Whatever will be will be.

With the far left and black vote sewn up, it's on to the GE for Obama and defeat for the Democrats...again.

Posted by: Mack | Jun 1, 2008 8:09:30 PM

AGS - she only wins the popular vote if you leave out many of the caucus states and give her a full count in MI and Obama zero. Unfortunately, Hillary is the only one that really thinks she won the popular vote.

Posted by: Paige | Jun 1, 2008 8:10:32 PM

Don't brush it off. That "territory" had 55 votes, far more than many of our states. Evidently the DNC by their rules thought it important.

Posted by: tiredtoo | Jun 1, 2008 8:11:04 PM

Obama and his pastors have set race relations back 50 years. No speech is going to change that.

Posted by: Mack | Jun 1, 2008 8:11:20 PM

let us now focus on what is next.. obama/ webb,
or obama/ sebelius.
either one will be a perfect tickect for a landslide victory in november.. watch out republican.. this is the change we beleive in.
obama 08
