DNC: No More Contributions from Federal Lobbyists

Share

June 05, 2008 7:44 AM

It's been less than two days since he crossed the delegate threshold to become the Democratic presidential nominee and Sen. Barack Obama's mark on the party is already being felt.

On Good Morning America Thursday, ABC News' Chief Washington Correspondent George Stephanopoulos reported "the Democratic National Committee will no longer accept contributions from federal lobbyists, will no longer take contributions from PACs" in keeping with Obama's well-publicized policy.

Does this include AIPAC money too?

Nicely done.

I just cannot believe some of the cynics who bother to post. Why not acknowledge that this is step in right direction? Why not consider the possibility that Obama may be different from other politicians? Yeesh!!

That's one small step for democracy. We need to completely ban corporate/PAC money from politics. I have no problem with union money because unions are made up of working people and unions look out for working people. Corporations only want to maximize profits and care nothing about the working class.

Actually, Mary, contrary to popular belief, AIPAC is not a lobbying organization. I'm still no fan of them, though.

I am hopeful that our country will once again be a united front! The division that has grown between all parties since the establishment of the current administration and the "New World Order" is a sad affair. It is time to remind politicians that they are our representatives; that they work for us!

I pray he makes us proud and that I will not regret voting for him when it comes time to cast my vote!

OBAMA 08' YES WE CAN!

He is already taking money from lobbyists. This man is no different than any other political figure. He took a lot of money from Rezko and his friends ending up with an 11 million dollar home. I wouldn't trust Obama anymore than any other political to tell the truth. He will continue to try and influence everyone to vote for him and then it is too late. Too many people have drank the kool-aid! He is as corrupt as Rezko and his buddies in Illinois.

Does that exclusion include AIPAC and related organizations?

If so, it is business as usual. The only positive consideration with corporate lobbyists is the beneficiaries MAY reside in the USA.

With AIPAC the only beneficiary is another country...Israel.

Geez, what's the catch? It's as simple as that? Nominate a candidate who says the Democrats aren't going to be corrupt anymore and it's a done deal? Why didn't we think of this earlier?

OBAMA 08 - YES WE CAN! Great to hear this news. I think he has united us in more ways than just this new policy change on contributions to campaigns. He brings a fresh approach to making change possible. We certainly don't need 8 more years like the past 8.

So you really believe what any democrat say even though they fooled us in 2006.

Obama is just as corrupt as Pelosi or any republican. He pledged 30b to Isreal, now who do you think is pulling his chain. Who do you think he owes his loyalities to, definitely not we the people!

Now the Republicans will have to develop a new scheme to get around Obama's no money from the lobs. Of course they will give lip service to it while taking in the money through the back door. Just as the Republicans are trying to explain away the dishonorable deaths they caused because of lied, or omitted intelligence in this war.

A step in the right direction.
If you could throw every lobbyist out of Washington, it would still take 20 years to clean up the mess they made.

My bad, the names are under the post,
I apolgize to the ladies. But i still think Hill has to talk to her girls.

We see the problem with majority of Americans: When someone tries to change the landscape to a more pleasant scenery they cry, hate, criticize and attack that change although the change is to benefit them. The idiots who are against the exclusion of lobbying is those very lobbyist who will soon lose their perceived entitlements that they have been givng all this time by the corrupt presidents in the past. The few who chose to stand against were assailed in the MSM.

Here comes Obama trying to make you idiots see that the politicans need to work for their damn money and work for the people instead of the big corporations. But ignorance trumps common sense in the majority of these idiots cases. You have not spoken much about the lobbyist who took control over the last 8 years I guess taking up the rear was just pleasant for you fools. Apparently you like being screwed for anyone with common sense would welcome change that could benefit not only the individual but the country as a whole.

Not sure if you were counting me, Paul, as one of the negative comments as all I did was ask if money from AIPAC would be included in this. In fact, reviewing the comments I can only see one comment that even comes close to being negative from a poster with a feminine name.

I'm an Obama supporter actually. I resent the influence of AIPAC money though and it sounds like they'd get to keep yanking every candidate's chain.

Posted by: mary | Jun 6, 2008 11:42:09 AM

I do hope that AIPAC money will not be accepted any more and thus DEMOCRACY would not be influenced by this powerful group

Posted by: George Scharenberg | Jun 6, 2008 1:13:51 PM

That's okay I guess when the "candidate" and the SUPERDELEGATES that switched are getting their "re-election" campaigns financed by MoveOn.Org and Google, (etc.) which are at least on the up and up to some degree ... I guess his pledge looks good (again) but you gotta wonder: maybe they all "switched" because they are hoping Obama will win before Patrick Fitzgerald sends them their subpoenas. The only problem being Obama will probably get one too.

I'm a very dedicated Democrat -- but, it looks like: Republicans won this one!

This is just a political stunt. You do realize that the DNC is only one part of the democratic organization. The DSCC and the DCCC will still accept money from lobbyists and PACs. They will also still accept money from statehoue lobbyists. If he was serious he would deny all funds from all lobbyists. He is just playing his supporters for fools. He is owned by wall street. He has taken money from oil companies, in fact he received more money from Exxon than Hillary or McCain. Of course they also rec'd money from oil companies. Obama was the only one to lie about it, saying he did not take money from them. Politcs as usual. He will say or do anything to get elected.
