Gore Backs Obama's Presidential Run
June 16, 2008 3:24 PM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller and Nitya Venkataraman Report: Former Vice President Al Gore will endorse Sen. Barack Obama Monday night in Detroit, appearing on stage alongside the presumptive Democratic nominee for the first time in the 2008 election cycle.
In an email message sent to Gore supporters Monday afternoon, the former vice president endorsed Obama's White House bid, committing himself to the November cause. "From now through Election Day, I intend to do whatever I can to make sure he is elected President of the United States."
Gore also made a direct appeal for campaign contributions to distribution list started in 2006 that has "about 640,000 members," according to a Gore spokesman.
"I've never asked members of AlGore.com to contribute to a political campaign before," he wrote, "but this moment and this election are too important to let pass without taking action."
Continuing, "That's why I am asking you to join me today in showing your support for Barack Obama by making a contribution to his campaign today."
While visiting a GM plant in Flint, Michigan during a shift change, Obama said Gore's endorsement "means a lot to him" and spoke to the advice Gore has given him "around climate change, energy and the environment" adding "but, you know, he's also provided good political advice."
"He's somebody who has been a visionary but just for the party but the country. And there are very few people who are more knowledgable than he is on a whole host of issues and challenges we're going to me facing in the years to come," Obama said.
Though the former vice president stayed out of the Democratic presidential primary season, his presence in the party -- that of Democratic heavyweight-cum-Novel Prize-winning environmental crusader-cum-party elder -- always lingered near.
Gore supporters first hoped they could draft the the 2000 Democratic presidential nominee to make his second presidential run in 2008, and as time ran out on that option waited with baited breath for the Gore-acle to make his presidential pick.
In April, Obama said he would consider the former vice president and 2000 Democratic presidential nominee for a Cabinet position in his administration.
"I can guarantee you that Al Gore will be invited to take part in my administration. And I don't know what he'll want to so and what he'll be willing to accept," Obama said in Indiana. "He and I already talk you know periodically. And he evaluated our environmental plan. I took many ideas from him."
Obama has mentioned on the trail that he speaks to Gore often, but hadn't been pushing for an endorsement.
In March, Obama said "Ive talked to him mostly about policy -gotten guidance and good ideas from him and so I'm not really pushing for an endorsement. I'd love to have it but you know when you've won the Nobel Peace prize you know, making an endorsement politically you know may be a step down but he's very supportive in terms of thinking through ideas."
Supporters of a a Obama-Gore ticket shouldn't hold their breath, the presumptive Democratic candidate said last year that "having won the Nobel Peace Prize and an Oscar that being Vice President again would be probably a step down for him."

Just imagine how much better off this country would be if Bush Inc had not succeeded in stealing Florida in 2000. Gore might not have been a great president but how could he possibly have been worse than King George?

Is anybody surprised that Democratic Party leaders are supporting Obama?
This means nothing.
No matter who won the Democratic presidential nominee, Al Gore would have did the same thing for him or her.

Geevill,
You forgot McCain!
Posted by: Thinking | Jun 16, 2008 3:52:45 PM
you will write hillary in? that is absolutely stupid. the next prez will likely nominate two supreme court justices. if mccain becomes prez say bye-bye to reproductive rights. the current court is one vote from overturning roe v. wade. so, yeah, write in hillary. thats bright.

Just imagine how much better off we'd have been had Gore been selected in 2000! We'd have had an intelligent President to guide us through tough times. Instead, we got the equivalent of a monkey.

Amy, come on stop it, that being silly Hillary is out...get over it.

The Iraq 'surge is working' to empty America's treasury!
There is NO BENEFIT to Americans ever being in Iraq, only human and monetary COSTS!
The Iraqis are relatively quiet for now; because they realize that American troops will be LEAVING!
Americans should have no illusion that things will remain relatively calm in Iraq if Americans foolishly decides to continue the Bush UNPROVOKED occupation.

Amy: You can write her name in a thousand times, and it still wil be in vein and won't do anything, bu make you look like a fool, because her name will no be on the balot, so even if you write it in , it won't count.

Well that should pretty much finish Obama off, maby they can go on a global warming tour together and fool everyone into thinking we can pull out of oil as soon as Obama gets elected. What a joke.

Between the price of the wars in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and the next one in Iran; And adding on the Carbon tax mandates that will force the rest of the corporations to move overseas, when they already do it to the gains of outsourcing... If Obama and Gore do anything along the lines of wha they plan, our nation will become a third world country. The only jobs left will be in government or military, which will helpful in their aims to make us the eco policemen of the world and number one exporter of terrorism in the name of occupation. If you want to understand what we are up against I suggest you watch 1984, or Red Dawn... the Iranians don't hate us just yet, just their government. Once we invade they will be more that happy to reciprocate, and not necessarily just on our terms. Are you prepared to risk your familes life, just to invade a country who has done NOTHING to us... yet AGAIN. If we refuse to answer this question, we may never be given a second chance. And remember you did nothing... The fault lies with you, not just Bush, Obama, McCain, or even Hilliary.

I urge all ex-Democrats such as myself, to do as I do. Everytime I get a request for a contribution to Obama or the DNC I send the postage paid envelope back, sealed and empty! OR I put a note in that my contribution has gone to Hillary to pay back her debt.

Good ol Al, he's back, I wonder if his jet and 10,000sf mansion is running on solar power yet? If not he will just pay a few carbon credits and everything is hunkydory.
