ABC News's Bret Hovell reports: Senator John McCain will travel to Colombia next week, before the Fourth of July Holiday.

McCain will meet with Colombia's President Uribe to discuss joint US Colombian efforts to stifle the drug trade and express what McCain calls the United States' strong friendship with the Colombians.

McCain will also call for the passage of the Colombian Free Trade Agreement which has been stalled in the U.S. Congress

McCain himself announced the trip at a press conference Tuesday in Riverside, California.

“We’ll be traveling there and visiting with President Uribe and others as they continue their enormous battle that they are waging against the drug cartels which have had such a damaging effect on their country but also on ours,” McCain said.

He said that Uribe saved Colombia from becoming a failed state and that he wanted to thank Uribe for that.

"I consider him a friend and I consider the people of Colombia my friends as well," McCain said.

McCain - making things happen while Obama produces nothing but hot air!

Anyway we can KEEP him there? Ol' "Songbird" McCain won't mind, he LOVES to "collaborate" with commies! Check out "Vietnam veterans AGAINST McCain", for a little backstory...

I suppose he's the new lobbyist for this thing after Hillary's old PR guy got booted for the same thing. WTF

This is what we should be concerned about:

The Israelis are mounting a full court press to get the Bush administration to strike Iran's nuclear complex.

Iraq was all about making Israel safer and we would get oil too (ha, ha, ha).

Better than fighting a "war on drugs" perhaps we should send all of our users south and let them stand trial there as accessory to murder, elict trade, smuggling, and whatever else they can come up with.

Posted by: Thinking | Jun 24, 2008 9:03:25 PM

maybe that is what he is going there for--new kind of alzhimers medicine---hope not he is wacky enough.although since nafta all the mexicans are coming here --i guess the columbians are next.

"War on drugs"

Shouldnt we start at home, Ya know where more people die from legal drugs than from illegal drugs!

Posted by: sai.mati | Jun 24, 2008 9:22:53 PM

yes but mccain tells us how much better we are today--and how prosperos nafta has made us.---we need mideast attitude about selling drugs---just execute them.
oh i forgot that is not politicaly correct.

Posted by: rodney | Jun 24, 2008 9:26:03 PM

now i must ask-have any oy you collected the 300 million dollars for the majic battery mccain is promoting------what an idiot-all batterys need to be charged and that takes energy---or perhaps mccain fairy dust--keeps us laughing.

Joe: There Is No 15 Point Deficit!
The Newsweek Poll Is Bogus!
Even Gallup has the race dead even
statistically(within the margin of error)!
The only Poll that Counts is on
Election Day! Can You Say
President John McCain?

Very Presidential of McCain to go to Columbia. And what is Obama doing, sitting at home, still no plans for America and trying to think of some other pander to strike out at McCain. McCain is really beginning to win voters over. McCain is PROACTIVE, not REACTIVE like Obama. I'm beginning to wonder if Obama can even have an original thought...lol! Keep up the good work, President McCain!!!! America wants and needs you!

Funny that Sen. McCain's major speeches on trade policy keep taking place in foreign countries.
