Obama Calls President Bill Clinton
June 30, 2008 3:54 PM
ABC News' Sunlen Miller and Sarah Amos Report: Amid reports of tension between Sen. Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton, the Obama campaign announced Monday the presumptive Democratic nominee called Bill Clinton at 11amET this morning from Kansas City, Missouri while enroute to his event in Independence, Mo.
This is the first time Obama has spoken to the former president since winning the Democratic Party's nomination.
The former president was in New York, where he has an office in Harlem and a home in Chappaqua, NY. They spoke for 20 minutes. Obama asked the former president to campaign with him and for him. The Obama campaign said Bill Clinton told Obama he is excited about that prospect.
"Senator Obama had a terrific conversation with President Clinton and is honored to have his support in this campaign," said Obama spokesperson Bill Burton.
"He has always believed that Bill Clinton is one of this nation’s great leaders and most brilliant minds, and looks forward to seeing him on the campaign trail and receiving his counsel in the months to come."
The former president's office was just as effusive about the call today.
"President Clinton had a very good conversation with Sen. Obama today. He renewed his offer to do whatever he can to ensure Sen. Obama is our next President," said Bill Clinton spokesperson Matt McKenna.
"President Clinton continues to be impressed by Sen. Obama and the campaign he has run, and looks forward to campaigning for and with him in the months to come. The President believes that Senator Obama has been a great inspiration for millions of people around the country and he knows that he will bring the change America needs as our next President."
Over the weekend, Terry McAuliffe, former Democratic National Committee chair and a former national co-chair to Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, said the former president would speak to Obama within the next 24 to 48 hours.
Reports have swirled for weeks about tensions between Bill Clinton and the presumptive Democratic nominee. Reigniting speculation about their relationship, Clinton's office last week released a one-sentence statement from spokesman Matt McKenna that was dubbed "tepid" by many members of the punditry and media.
During the campaign, Bill Clinton appeared to directly attack his wife's rival, telling PBS' Charlie Rose before the Iowa caucuses that voting for Obama is "a roll of the dice." He also said the Obama campaign "played the race card on me" after he likened Obama's South Carolina win to Jesse Jackson's in the 1980s, and publicly said Obama's opposition to the Iraq war was "a big fairy tale."

They can never find anything bad on Obama. There is nothing bad on him, so they have to use other people.
Rev. Wright, the media, his wife, his friend, his dog, his cat. When that isn't enough, they just create it. Create fiction. It's the devil. "Here Eve, said the snake in the Garden of Eden" taste this apple.

Don't you right wing hacks have any wars to plan poorly? CIA Agents to out?
Lies to make up about Obama?
None of you must be too excited with McCain, or else you wouldn't be obsessed with Obama.
That's Okay, all of us Obama supporters are out fundraising.
Good Luck finding a position McCain hasn't flip flopped yet!

I can not believe a man as smart as Bill Clinton is going to try to help Barack Hussein....Boy....Am I ever disappointed but if this is how it is, maybe he will help Barack as much as he did his wife....He was her biggest thorn in her side...

A message to "ch". Ignorance such as yours is the one reason why this country is in the current state that it finds itself. Not only is your statement completely incorrect, but you GROSSLY distort the truth simply to attempt to make a point, to which you have none. Sure, never mind that Obama is actually putting forth plans to restore this country's health and prosperity. You've decided, in a not so veiled attack, that you won't vote for him simply because of his race. How completely foolish of you and those that think like you. I'm glad there are enough educated and reasonable Americans out there that'll put Obama in the Presidential office in November.
The fact is, for whatever reason, Bill Clinton did indeed play dirty tricks. And he did so using race to cater to the most ignorant of Americans. He has a lot to make up for to restore, if possible, his legacy. Campaigning for Obama would be a start.

......And to the guy who keeps quoting Mitt Romney...
You realize McCain won the nomination, right?
No one cares what Romney has to say, including Republicans.

Nancy, Ch and mPCT get your facts straight, Sen Obama and his senior advisors never called Bill Clinton a racist. The media applied that label to Bill Clinton. I personally think its great that former Pres Clinton and Sen Obama talked and a united Dem Party will be a powerful force in the GE. Sen McCain is a major flopper and he will say anything and I mean anything to get elected. He's out of touch, and the only thing he offers is another 4 years of George Bush and company. Eight years of George Bush and stench is sickening, throw him and McCain out with the trash...

Nobama....
You might want to learn english before calling Obama stupid. Just sayin'
"may him think"?
That's not you, is it, George...?

Obama will do anything for a vote. He got the Black vote because the young African Americans do not relate to slavery and they want to erase it out of American's History. Obama is the perfect person because he has no Slavery in his DNA.

What's so honorable about being a Prisoner of War? The smart ones didn't get caught, or they put up a fight and got away.

glenda (hey when does the glen side of you come back, it was a great movie). Your use of Obama's first and middle name tell me a lot about your sewage filled conservative head. It's so full it is coming out of your mouth, but it's probably been doing that for decades.

If this doesn't make you hardcore Bill Clinton fans sick to your stomach, nothing will.

I give Bill Clinton a lot of credit for this. Obama slammed him bigtime during the campaign, lumping Clinton in with Bush. Remember those "bitter" working class folk kept falling through the Clinton and Bush years. Obama had to reach back to Reagan for a president "who changed the trajectory of the nation". And to top it off, his surrogates made out that Bill Clinton, who has arguably done more to lift the black community than any other American political leader, was a racist. During the campaign, Obama rejected the Clinton legacy flatout. Now he needs it and Bill Clinton is being gracious and doing what he needs to do to elect a Dem president.

Dekonti
Talking with Pre-Cindition is different from talking without Pre-Condition.
Saint Obama said he will meet without pre-condition.
Bush is winning this North Korean Issue becuse there are pre-conditions to give just aid, not to meet him.
now you are trying to spin it, shame on Obama & his supporters

Penney Lewis; You should read up on how the Japanese treated British, Dutch, Australian, Scottish, and American POW's in Tailand (Singapore)and Burma during WWII. You may come to realize how ignorant your prisoner of war statement really is.

Frankly, I am just sick of all the Democrats and I am a Democrat. They are all in it for power and money. Obama needs the Clinton's voters and their intellegence to compensate for his lack of experience and smarts regarding running this country. Likewise, the Clinton's need him to accomplish what they set out to achieve as Hillary as President not to mention that she needs his cash support to cover her debts. But you know its all about "me." Are they really for "us"?

Obama...Yes you are a double dealer. If it wasn't for the Demo. Party, Mr. Bill wouldn't hang with you for a second. You and your supporters are Clinton Haters. We won't forget !!

Penney Lewis - When a person has multiple broken bones and lands in a lake it's hard to run and hard to fight. McCain's honor was gained when he gave up the chance to go home but chose to stay thus denying the enemy the chance at a propaganda opportunity. When McCain cheated on his wife that waited for him to come homebut didn't look as good anymore, and finally married the trophy trollop (McCain's word, not mine) he lost all honor.

The only person who can solve our racial problems is one who is both Black and White, and has lived in both worlds and knows what the fears and needs are in each group. McCain only knows White. The President has to be the leaders of all of the people, not just wealthy, Protestant, Republican men. He is out of touch. His time has passed.
