Sen. Feinstein Speaks Out in Favor of 'Dream Ticket'

ABC News' Mary Bruce reports: Clinton supporter Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., pleaded the case this morning for an Obama-Clinton "Dream Ticket."

"If you really want a winning ticket, this is it," Feinstein said in a "This Week" interview with George Stephanopoulos. "I've looked at every other possible candidate.  No one brings to a ticket what Hillary brings -- Eighteen million people committed to where she's going."

Feinstein, who facilitated a secret meeting between the former rivals earlier in the week, was adamant that "she [Hillary] has a chance" to be Obama's running mate. She also made clear that Clinton is committed to uniting the Democratic Party.

"She expressed to me the depth of her concern and caring, the fact that she had 18 million who put their hopes and dreams in her ability to create new opportunities for people. She wants to continue that.  She recognizes that it's over, and I think every instinct in Hillary Clinton is to help."

Clinton officially conceded her White House run on Saturday.

In discussing the strong support among women that Clinton could bring to the ticket, Feinstein pointed to sexism as an element that derailed her campaign. "She got treated poorly ... I think, to a great extent, by [the] press, yes, I think she did.  I read column after column where it was personal and malevolent, and to some extent, even venal.  And I don't understand why that was necessary," Feinstein explained.

"I think that played a role in developing this strength among women that saw this kind of thing for her candidacy."

Feinstein also suggested that Clinton's meeting with Obama helped her to begin moving forward after her 17-month battle for the nomination. "The nerve endings have to be healed.  They are being healed.  She did a lot to begin that process.  But I know from the times I've been invested in a campaign, it's very hard to go on," Feinstein explained.

"She wanted to have that meeting ... She wanted one opportunity to sit down with Senator Obama, just the two of them, and, I think, establish a sense of rapport between them, I think put aside what had happened on the campaign trail, and I think be able to see if -- I used the word nerve endings for such -- that they could forge some kind of a positive bond and working relationship.  And I think that came of it."

I'm for a woman VP, but there are DOZENS of successful women for Obama to choose from. Feinstein is not helping Clinton to focus on HER choices.

Hillary would be a better president than Obama. No doubt about it. She would have been the nominee if Obama had not gotten that free ride from the MSM, played the race card to promote division, had the corrupt power of the DNC behind him and cheated by buying Super Delegates.

By the way, he has not officially won the nom - that won't happen until August.

Obama does not deserve my respect or any respect because of the tactics he used to win. But then again, if he hadn't used those tactics (with the complicity of the MSM and the DNC) he wouldn't have *won. Can you say cheat? Better yet, can you say President McCain????

"She thrashed Obama and went out still saying she will be a better president than he"

Yes. If Hillary played a positive campaign Obama's decision could have been much easier. If he choses Hillary, the Republicans will play past debates and quotes of Hillary. Especially when she said she and John McCain would bring a life time of experience and Obama would bring a speech. Hillary has dug herself in a hole. Her tone throughout the primaries was horrible. She should thought of the prospects of losing and possibly toning down her rhetoric.

Let him pick another woman and see what happens it would be a really bad move.

During her campaign,Hillary neglected to plan for "if I lose, how do I position myself during this campaign for VP? for a cabinet post? for an ambassador office? Now Hillary has asked Feinstein to be her "voice." Wrong move again!

Obama stole his candidacy just as he stole it when he got elected as senator.
It is clear that there are nefarious players behind the scenes for Obama. How is it he could have so many criminal and fanatical connections and still be in the running? I am convinced that those of the Middle East who wish to destroy this nation have found a way to do it from the inside. We as Americans all know the power of money and who has more of it than those of the Middle East. Somehow they have jerry rigged the media to make Obama a Teflon Obama and now they are playing with the economy such as raising the gas prices so as to put the republican administration in a bad light. It is the Trojan horse again and most Americans seem too stupid to recognize it.

OBAMA made a statement at the AIPAC conference in Washington last Wednesday that he now has labeled the “Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization”. ANOTHER FLIP FLOP. Remember the debates where he stated that Clinton had overblown the Iranian nuke threat and he criticized her vote to brand Iran’s Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization. He called it “saber-rattling”. The whole world heard both statements by this youngster.

"Hillary Clinton will be merely a footnote in political history, like Ferraro, it's really sad what you folks are thinking about doing."

Much like Hussein is going to be after we vote in John McCain. Heyyyyyyyy!

And please, lets ot forget Hillary was the medias darling until she started losing.

And for past 3 months of this campaign Obama had anything but bad coverage. Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, Bitter-gate, Pastor Plieger, Michelle Proud comments...

With all of Obama's recent mishaps Clinton was not able to close the deal in TX, OH, PA, IN, NC, KY, OR, WV, MO, SD. Don't blame the media. Obama is the better candidate.

brigitte, you either vote for universal health care, or not. You vote for choices for women, or not. You vote for a bankrupt America due to further war spending, or not. GET PAST THE PERSONALITY HANG UP!! You are a Democrat, a Republican, or an Independent. 46 MILLION AMERICANS ARE HOPING YOU VOTE FOR OBAMA SO THEY CAN HAVE HEALTH CARE!!! If you are so anti-social, go ahead, let them down.

I wouldn't waste my time with Obama if I were Hillary. McCain is a true man who will give Hillary a great position in his administration. Unlike Obama, McCain has true respect for Hillary and is friends with her. I would much rather be in McCain's cabinet than Obama's. Obama has/will destroy the Democrat Party and will take Hillary down with him if she signs on to his ticket.

Great Post! I agree with you 150%!

I agree with your sentiments, Debbie, but Hillary doesn't need a great position in an administration. She's a Senator from NY. Anything in an administration is a step down.

She'd take the VP if it helps the Dems but that's a step down too.

Hillary '08 (my sentiments, anyway)

All of the posters here who are saying that the polls now show Obama leading McCain in all of them:

Let's see how long that holds up. Obama right now is experiencing a major "bounce" from having finally been declared the "presumptive" nominee of the Democratic Party.

I am positive that once he gets back out on the campaign trail, and continues to speak about his "hope and change" without anything substantial to back it up, this will all disappear.

Give it another month or so of him campaigning and making a few more of his infamous gaffes that show how ignorant he is of the history of our country, and his lack of foreign policy experience and those polls will quickly change.
