What Primary? Candidates Stick to Their Day Jobs Too
June 03, 2008 7:54 PM
ABC's Z. Byron Wolf reports: As their primary drama plays out, both Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama teamed with different Republicans to introduce legislation today.
At 5:56 pm, just minutes after ABCNews projected he had won the Democratic primary, Obama's Senate press office sent an advisory to reporters about new legislation he and Republican Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, with whom Obama sponsored a 2006 law, which created the searchable government contract database www.usaspending.gov (aka "google for government").
Now, Obama and Coburn want to tweak that law, according to Obama's office, to "allow www.USASpending.gov visitors to view copies of federal contracts, as well as information about competitive bidding, earmarks, government lease agreements, work quality, federal audit disputes, any violations or criminal activities, federal tax compliance, and government reports. It would also improve website searchability, provide a method to report errors, ensure data accuracy, and require a quality audit of the website every six months."
Obama, short on legislative accomplishments in his four years in the Senate, will point to this, along with ethics reform law passed last year, as resume points as he squares off in the general election against Sen. John McCain, R-AZ, whose good government chops are well-documented, and who sparred at times with Obama in negotiating the ethics law.
Twelve minutes after Obama's office issued the advisory on his new legislative proposal, at 6:08 pm, the office of Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine announced that she was introducing, along with Sen. Clinton, The National Innovation and Job Creation Act.
The bill seeks to "spur the adoption of new technologies and practices that will accelerate job growth and help keep and create good, high-paying jobs in the face of international competition."
The bill would create a new "“National Innovation Council” (NIC), in the Executive Office of the President, to lead existing federal efforts on innovation, and to help support those efforts at the state and local level."
"To secure the future of America's economy we must create new, good-paying jobs here at home. Investing in new technologies and industries will expand our workforce, ensuring America remains competitive in the global economy and putting us on a course toward growth and prosperity for future generations," said Senator Clinton in the press release.

surely clear who is a phony and who has substance. Teaming up a republican for the sake of pandering voters in the general election? He should go home learn something more from his Spritual Guide Wright.
Phone. Hypocrit.

It's called reaching across the aisle of congress and negotiating with the other side for the betterment of our country. Are you an optimist or pessimist? Obama will change the country- you can come along for the ride, or stay home and miss the train. All aboard!

Hmmm...In which case Hillary has three weeks to lodge an appeal and then fight on to the August Credentials Committee in Denver...if they can't be honest then, she owes them nothing and should run as INDEPENDANT! You'd see how popular Deans pet is then!
