AFL-CIO Mailing Seeks to Dispel Obama Rumors

ABC News' Teddy Davis and James Gerber Report: The AFL-CIO has sent out a mail piece to "600,000 union swing voters' households" seeking to dispel rumors about Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., regarding the American flag, the Bible, Christianity, whether he was born in the U.S., and whether he puts his hand over his heart for the pledge of allegiance.
The front of the flier reads, "Have questions about Barack Obama? See inside for answers."
The mailing then provides short rebuttals to a variety of false rumors about the presumptive Democratic nominee. It reads:
Q: "Does he wear a flag pin?"
A: "Yes, but not always. Like many presidential candidates, sometimes he wears a flag pin, sometimes he wears a breast cancer awareness pin, sometimes he wears his U.S. Senate membership pin and other times he wears no pin at all."
Q: "Is he a Christian?"
A: "Yes. He is a committed Christian. In 1985, he began working as a community organizer with a Christian church-based group seeking to improve the living conditions in poor Chicago neighborhoods."
Q: "Was he sworn in on the Bible?"
A: "Yes. Barack Obama took the oath of office on his personal family bible. It was Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison who was sworn in on the Koran."
Q: "Was he born in America?"
A: "Yes. Barack Obama's birth certificate indicates he was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4, 1961, at 7:24 P.M."
Q: "Does he place his hand over his heart when he says the pledge?"
A: "Yes. Barack Obama always places his hand over his heart during the pledge of allegiance."
A second, more conventional mail piece, touts Obama's record on jobs, health care, and workers' rights.
The mail is going out to union voters in the battleground states of Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
The strategy of confronting the rumors head-on mirrors the Obama campaign's decision to launch a website that performs a similar service, called Fight the Smears.

ANGIE IM A INDEPENDENT MODERATE FROM MASS IN MASS WE HAVE MORE DEMOCRATIC POLITICIANS THAN ANY OTHER STATE AND LATELY THIS STATE IS IN THE WORST I HAVE EVER SEEN TAKE A LONG LOOK AT WHATS GOING ON IN MASS. BOTH SIDES DEM OR REPUB THEY BOTH STINK

He wears his flag pin now because of the pressure he facing.
He puts his hand over his heart because of the pressure he was recieving.
Barack is nothing put a product put out by an excellent marketing campaign. Thanks god I am a tough sell.

Hey Brian, How do YOU know that Barack Obama didn't wear a flag pin before he was national figure??? Also, that he didn't put his hand over his heart before the election??? ---Angie--Is the fact that he and his family was a member and supported a hate-mongering, racist church for 20 years a rumor???? And I am still waiting to see a legal copy of his birth certificate from Hawaii. One that is a actual photo-copy of the one given to his parents when he was born.

Somehow whenever I read these comments, I always envision Hill/Bill Clinton in the background just waiting to grab the nomination in August. Who starts these rumors? How has much to gain from the rumors? Who only suspended her campaign and still "loaned" it 1 million dollars after the "suspension". Whose name will still come up at the convention. I would bet that these rumors which reflect negatively on Obama come out of Hill/Bill Clintonville. Read the Clinton biographies! Go Obama. I am a 50 year Republican who will vote for Obama in November!!!!!

It doesnt matter what 'hospital' Obama was born in. It only matters that it was a STATE within the USA. McShame on the other hand was born in PANAMA. If anything, worry about his legitimate claim to run for president.

We americans know the truth about Barack...we know his middle name is Hussein and we know about his 20 years belonging to a church that celebrated the murderous attack on America by muslim terrorists on 9/11.
