Hello Dalai! McCain Meets With the Dalai Lama
July 25, 2008 6:24 PM
ABC News' Bret Hovell reports: As his Democratic rival wrapped up his European tour in France and London, Sen. John McCain attempted to steal back the media spotlight -- employing some Zen-like help from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The two met privately in Aspen, Colorado Friday before emerging from a private residence in Aspen. They walked out holding hands.
McCain said he was honored to meet with the Dalai Lama, and stressed the importance of his work for human rights.
"The Dalai Lama has time and again emphasized that he asked only that the Tibetan people are provided with basic rights to preserve their culture, language and religious beliefs," McCain said.
"His nonviolence approach and his lifelong approach of seeking common ground around cultural and religious divides are an inspiration for all of mankind and to millions of Americans."
The presumptive Republican nominee said he thought the occasion of the upcoming Olympics would be a good time for China to "demonstrate to the world that it’s committed to respecting the basic human rights of its people."
"The United States welcomes good relations with China but it's certainly no service to the people of China for the United States and other Democracies to pretended that the suppression of rights in China does not concern us. It does, will and must concern us. And that will necessarily involve continuing good relations with the Tibetan people and their remarkable representative the Dalai Lama," McCain said.
This was the first meeting between the two, although they have spoken before by phone. McCain requested the meeting months ago, and they were able to get it together this week.
His Holiness stressed that the visit was not political and did not constitute an endorsement, but that he was honored to meet McCain.
"My visit is unpolitical," the Dalai Lama said. "Meanwhile, my old friend is a candidate for president of this great country...I feel great honor in meeting him.''
He said he has already spent two week in the United States, lecturing several thousand people "who are showing interest."
"Besides that, as I think many of my friends know, my basic commitment is promotion of human values," the Dalai Lama said.

Obama is already the crowned Messiah, he doesn't need to consult with the Dalai Lama nor the Pope. But I will tell you all who he will consult - Reverend Wright.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this were satire, is he really this desperate?

McCain, a warmonger and the Dalai Lama, a pacifist. Now there's a pair you won't find outside a political campaign. McCain, did you sing your song to him? Bomb Bomb Bomb .... Bomb Bomb Iran

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this were satire, is he really this desperate? Does the Dalai Lama know of McCain's position of condoning torture? The hypocrisy is almost palpable!

Maybe McCain was telling him all about the surge and how it won Iraq. Of course, the Dalai Lama probably asked him why 140,000 troops were still occupying Iraq and McBush told him about his 100 year plan.

McCain said: "His nonviolence approach and his lifelong approach of seeking common ground around cultural and religious divides are an inspiration for all of mankind and to millions of Americans" HAHAHAHAHA Apparently not for John "BombIran" McCAIN, you understand, but for OTHER Americans. Excuse me, waiter, but there's a HUGE hypocritical T*RD in the punchbowl.

While McCain Meets With the Dalai Lama Obama meets with the World Leaders. Sarkozy all but endorsed Obama today. It was obvious he favors Obama to McCain. Great Day for Obama. Very presidential.

Total publicity stunt! Associating with a warmonger like McCain just makes the Dalai Lama look bad.

People keep asking why McCain is still in the race. It's simple, 26% of voters are rabid republicans that would vote for Bush if he could run again and 21% of US voters could not and will not vote for a black man, no matter who. Those groups together makeup McCain's base and support.

Peace and War! I like McWar in the cheese section better. Where he belongs old cheese.
If McWar gets in we will be in Iran! The conservatives only know how to run a war economy! Look how many hundreds of billions we have spent for invade a Iraq. Do the country a favor retire McBush!

I find it hard to believe that Obama would not visit American troops in Germany, that he took the visit off his itinerary. However, he will pander to thousands of Europeans that have absolutely no effect on the current housing and energy crisis here at home. I bet the injured servicemen in Germany and their families are ready to run out there and support NoBama! This guy is inhumane by deciding not to visit these servicemen. I hope and pray that America will not let Obama enter our Whitehouse!

McCain met the Dalai Lama while his sidekick Lieberman met with Re. Hagee, the guy who said the murder of six million Jews was just part of God's plan.
Talk about a two-faced flip-flop!

obama is a FRAUD. At least we can trust McCain and he is qualified to lead our country. Obama is a big staged show and the media are the props.

McCain is a FRAUD. At least we can trust Obama to lead our country. McCain is a POORLY STAGED VAUDEVILLE ACT but the media are afraid to let people see just how LAME he is.

America, John McCain has just made the biggest flip-flopped on the Iraqi War. He called Obama's 16 months withdrawal plan from Iraq "a pretty good timetable". UNBELIEVABLE. McCain has now adopted/stole all of Obama's foreign policies.

RJ: I would not vote for Obama, but I would vote for Colin Powell if he were running. The last time I checked, Powell was Black. I wish people like you would not assume you know the human condition or people's minds.

Wow, Vanessa, the French president "all but endorsed Obama." That is SO impressive.
