Hello Dalai! McCain Meets With the Dalai Lama
July 25, 2008 6:24 PM
ABC News' Bret Hovell reports: As his Democratic rival wrapped up his European tour in France and London, Sen. John McCain attempted to steal back the media spotlight -- employing some Zen-like help from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The two met privately in Aspen, Colorado Friday before emerging from a private residence in Aspen. They walked out holding hands.
McCain said he was honored to meet with the Dalai Lama, and stressed the importance of his work for human rights.
"The Dalai Lama has time and again emphasized that he asked only that the Tibetan people are provided with basic rights to preserve their culture, language and religious beliefs," McCain said.
"His nonviolence approach and his lifelong approach of seeking common ground around cultural and religious divides are an inspiration for all of mankind and to millions of Americans."
The presumptive Republican nominee said he thought the occasion of the upcoming Olympics would be a good time for China to "demonstrate to the world that it’s committed to respecting the basic human rights of its people."
"The United States welcomes good relations with China but it's certainly no service to the people of China for the United States and other Democracies to pretended that the suppression of rights in China does not concern us. It does, will and must concern us. And that will necessarily involve continuing good relations with the Tibetan people and their remarkable representative the Dalai Lama," McCain said.
This was the first meeting between the two, although they have spoken before by phone. McCain requested the meeting months ago, and they were able to get it together this week.
His Holiness stressed that the visit was not political and did not constitute an endorsement, but that he was honored to meet McCain.
"My visit is unpolitical," the Dalai Lama said. "Meanwhile, my old friend is a candidate for president of this great country...I feel great honor in meeting him.''
He said he has already spent two week in the United States, lecturing several thousand people "who are showing interest."
"Besides that, as I think many of my friends know, my basic commitment is promotion of human values," the Dalai Lama said.

Jazz: I am with you, but you are being too generous suggesting they compare with four year olds. It's sad, isn't it?

Rev. Hagee ENDORSED McCain, after McCain BEGGED FOR HIS ENDORSEMENT.
Once word got out about Hagee's inflammatory ANTI-SEMITIC REMARKS, McCain threw him under the bus.
THEN, HE SENT JOE LIEBERMAN TO SUCK UP TO HIM AGAIN!!!
TALK ABOUT A TWO-FACED HYPOCRITICAL FLIP-FLOP!!!!

That some Obama supporters would even says uncool things about the Dalai-lama is quite sad. Imagine what Obama would say about that - he wouldn't advocate saying uncool things about the meeting. And what if Obama met the Dalai-lama next month? Obviously, it was a nice stroke of luck for McCain, and too bad if some of Obama-lama's followers have hurt feelings.

That Repubs would parrot ugly smears about Obama proves that their party is COMPLETELY MORALLY BANKRUPT.
That McCain would accept the Repub nomination proves that HE TOO IS COMPLETELY MORALLY BANKRUPT.

Obama doesn't need spiritual guidance from the Dalai Lama - he has Rev. Wright.

Lisa, you again! Go get a life!
I hope the Dali Lama washed his hands afterwards.

McCain's weak attempt to use the Dalai Lama as a band-aid to cover the MORAL CANCER of Karl Rove's Republican Party is worthless.
WAY TOO LITTLE, WAY TOO LATE.

How weird was it to see poor McCain walking hand in hand with the Dalai Lama? In Aspen of all places...

Democrats drop too many word bombs. A constant ceaseless temper tantrum raged by people that can't handle the word "no".

"word bombs"
You mean like "Sausage" and "Cheese"?
LOL!

Wow. Some pretty derisive remarks here. I get the feeling if McCain found a cure for cancer, the Obama crowd would say, "That's just a political move."
God, is there something sinister behind everything he does? You'd think he was Satan or something.
Posted by: Ar | Jul 25, 2008 8:58:11 PM
Ar: No, Karl Rove is Satan. McCain sold his soul to him.
