Lieberman Dismisses GOP Veep Speculation
July 11, 2008 4:50 PM
ABC News' Ron Claiborne Reports: Senator Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., says he has no interest in being Sen. John McCain's running mate, preferring to remain in the Senate seat he's held for the past 20 years.
"As regards the vice presidency, I really have been there and done that," Lieberman told ABC News in an interview airing on Saturday's World News. "I am not a candidate. I am not interested in doing it. I hope John is elected president. I'm going to work hard to do that happens and I think the best thing I can do the help him be the great president I think he's capable of being is to be Democratic senator working across party lines to get things done."
WATCH MORE OF RON CLAIBORNE'S INTERVIEW WITH SEN. LIEBERMAN ON WORLD NEWS SATURDAY.
Lieberman was re-elected in 2006 as an Independent to his fourth term after failing to win the Democratic nomination. He caucuses with the Democrats, helping give them a razor thin 51-49 majority in the Senate.
Last December, he endorsed McCain for president and has often campaigned with him. He was Al Gore's running mate in 2000.
Because of his early support for and close friendship with McCain, he has been mentioned as a long-shot to be the Republican's pick for the No. 2 spot.
When asked what he would say if McCain asked him to join him on the GOP ticket, Lieberman said,"Well, it's not going to happen. But I'd tell him, 'You honor me by this request to your friend but you can do a lot better, so thank you.'"

Too bad....If Lieberman was chosen as McCain's VP nominee it would give me 101 reasons not to vote for McCain....Now, I only have 100.

McCain/Lieberman is the dream ticket for the GOP - it's the ONLY ticket that can beat Obama. The GOP should look seriously at this pairing.

Leiberman would be a great choice.

He has only one interest in mind..Isreal.

Lieberman is correct - McCain can do much better. And Gore could have chosen better too. Live and learn....

Nothing says "change" more than a ticket with both a democrat and a republican; that said, Lieberman and McCain hardly represent their parties anyway.

Doesn't gall you when that man calls himself a democratic senator? It's down right insulting.

I find it sad to see Obama running for the highest office in the US because if elected we have really lowered the bar.
Imagine a young John McCain in his twenty's serving our nation in uniform. Getting shot down and being brutally tortured by the North Vietnamese for over 5 years. On the other hand envision a young spoiled Obama in his twenty's doing cocaine & drugs. Obama is a very selfish man that lacks character and a moral compass. How utterly tragic it is that we have so many naive and foolish people that can’t see the empty suited Obama.
I don't think Obama has the correct judgment to be our leader. I don't think a boy raised without a father knows how to be a man. I believe Obama is flawed in many many ways. I'm sure as a youngster he was brainwashed in the liberal mindset. Obama sat in that church for 20 years listening to Rev Wright put down white people and our country. I think Obama is ashamed of being an American.
Clearly a boy is trying to compete with a man. I guess Obama getting this far makes him laugh and hate this country even more. Maybe Obama is right we Americans are an embarrassment to the world.

Why does Lieberman matter? because he holds the democratic majority together? He's more guilty than anyone else of the mess in Iraq. Go lobby for israel's security - american interests are second in line.

Liberman already backdoored the electoral process to retain his seat in the Senate once the Connecticut democrats kicked him to the curb when he wasn’t even able to get the nomination as a incumbent from his own party. As far as I am concerned the republicans can have him. Joe Must Go.

Some of these comments are really funny when you think about them. Especially about Obama being flawed because of no father in his life. Really, how do you know how much time Admiral McCain actually spent raising young John. Or the person who asserts that Obama has no moral compass. At least Obama has been a consistent churchgoer over the years. McCain really has very little moral compass if church attendance or lack of church attendfance is any indication. It is really humorous that so many people think and write about moral compass without really looking at the growing-up time and background of the two candidates.

Wow McCain/Lieberman, who are the REPUBLICANS gonna run???

Lieberman is a gentle, honorable man. He'd make a fine VP. This country has lost it's taste for honorable leaders and statesmen. Instead we want the candidate who serves our niche interests best. What a pity.

According to liberals the Hanoi Hilton is a 5-Star resort.
I guess its real rough growing up in Hawaii and then getting into Harvard through Affirmative Action.
Now we have Affirmative Action for president too. How sad!

Lieberman is on borrowed time in the Senate. He'll lose his committee chairmanship and then Conn. will kick him to the curb.

Too bad Lieberman won't run as McCain's VP. If he did, he could be one of the few people, if not the only person, to lose TWO elections as the VP nominee.

This just in---
Strong rumor that Robert Mugabe and Hugo Chavez are the two front runners for Obama VP. Rumor also has it that Obama wants 'job sharing' for the VP slot, and wants them BOTH to run with him on the Birds-of-a-Feather ticket.
His only concern is that the two men might be a little too conservative for his political base and he is going through an all-out search for a Lennin descendent with Lennin political and moral values.
When asked about the fact that none of the above is an American born citizen, Obama replied that "It is time that the US become a global citizen and get beyond the archaic idea that the president must be a US born citizen."
