McCain: Maybe Cigarettes Will Kill the Iranians
July 08, 2008 8:08 PM
ABC News' Bret Hovell Reports: Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., made an off the cuff joke Tuesday about cigarettes killing Iranians.
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee was asked about the number of exports going to Iran, specifically the increase in cigarette exports.
McCain looked surprised at that fact and in a line somewhat reminiscent of his "bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran" comment last year said, "Maybe that's a way of killing them." Then he followed it up quickly noting that it was a joke.
McCain made the remark during a visit to Primanti Brothers Sandwich shop in Pittsburg, Pa.
The senator's humor has gotten him into some trouble before. Last April he jokingly sang "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" to the tune of The Beach Boys classic "Barbara Ann" song. That "bomb Iran" moment became a sensation on YouTube and Democrats used the video to knock McCain's temperament.

Another comment that shows callousness towards his fellow man. By the way they have many more kids than we do with about 70% of their population at 30 and under. Vote 3rd party people.

McCain, of course, is a highly visible figure as a presidential nominee. He's showing a lack of judgement and deference to his position by his off cuff remarks. But most importantly, his humor is frightening because it may foreshadow his international behavior in the Middle East.

Are bombs or cigs faster? Two dumb comments that McCain thinks are jokes. No wonder the Iranians want to develop nukes. John wants to use a combo of Raytheon and Marboro to finish these poor people off.

good for mccain. we dont need a saint to be president;we suffered thru st. jimmy carter. the world is a rough, mean place...and the bullies only understand strength...not hand holding, or nice nice talk. we need a mccain not another jimmy obama carter

A typical disregard for human life from Mr. McCain.

This sort of "off the cuff" material may just be a true index into the would-be prexy's character. To show such disregard for human life belies the posture he has attempted to foist on the electorate of a compassionate and caring "old man"
If I were a Republican I would be worried about that. Especially on top of that awful smile he pulls which looks like the rictus of death. Do we want a President who talks about human beings so callously? I hope not. George Bush gave us enough death dealing with Iraq we do not need another round!!

What about giving them McDonalds, high fructose corn syrup and the like. They have done wonders for us. Maybe that has been Iran's plan all along. Barr '08

And we were worried about the Dean scream. McCain surely tops that one in lunacy.

As long as those in high places continue to think of our fellow world citizens in this manner, chances for world peace is not very good. These careless, insentive remarks demonstrate just what kind of a president John McCain would make. I don't believe military people be in the Whitehouse anyway. They are what we need in war, in the battlefield, but not in office.

ron - Ya the world is a dangerous place. Chiefly because of our screwing around on their turf for 50 years. Our meddling in their internal affairs has brought deep resentment. Our actions would be similar under similar circumstances. Remember the Golden Rule bud.

To think of where my fellow republicans have gone is truly depressing. Does McCain really think this is funny? I will have to vote 3rd party this time.

Between Ahmenijad and McCain they'd make a fine politically incorrect offensive comedy team. I pray they will choose to hurl insults at each other instead of bombs, and civillians lives... They deserve each other. The American and Iranian people do NOT!!!

ron - Carter wasn't the greatest but Bush is much worse, and McCain is more of the same garbage. Obama is pretty poor as well promising things that we an not afford. Where is Ron Paul when you need him.

hey all you people upset about his comments, just go chillax and get yourself another smoke. bunch of hypocrates, and i'm only talking to the people who are S-T-U-P-I-D enough to smoke and then get all fake bothered by Mccain's comments. jeez. it's almost funny.

i mean something needs to kill them. they hate you americans. get it?
Posted by: Kitty | Jul 8, 2008 8:48:05 PM
What a moron. We cannot possibly afford to have this guy become our President. And it is only likely to get worse as he ages and his mind deteriorates even further.
Posted by: HonestAbe | Jul 8, 2008 8:48:38 PM
Kitty, poor Kitty. I don't smoke, never have, never will so I am no hypocrite. McCain's comments show a general disregard for human life. Many of us are bothered because people die under the watches of people like McCain. For a party who tries to protect human life in the womb, you folks don't mind doing away with it elsewhere especially in places outside the US. Quit supporting these necon warmongers.

McCain 08. at least he has the ... uhhh, you know ... to say it like it is compared to the pansy obama and his anti - american wife. i'm just glad someone finally told that hag to shut her mouth. she was starting to bother even yellow dog democrats. glad she's been put in her place. finally.
Posted by: Kitty | Jul 8, 2008 8:52:00 PM
well, then ben, i wasn't talking to you was i?
Posted by: Kitty | Jul 8, 2008 8:52:50 PM
Kitty - They hate us because of our meddling and threats for since Mosaddeq. Seems pretty justified. We would be awefully pisssed if the tables were turned.
