McCain: Obama Retains Title of Dr. No on Energy

July 28, 2008 6:18 PM

ABC News' Bret Hovell Reports: After Hurricane Dolly ran aground John McCain's plans to visit an oil rig last Thursday -- and his hopes to steal the spotlight from Barack Obama and his speech in Berlin -- the Arizona senator visited a barren, desert oil field today to talk about energy.

"We all know that a comprehensive solution is wind, tide solar – all of the things that all of us believe in – but it could also mean off-shore drilling and it also means nuclear power, and it also means clean coal technology," McCain said at a Bakersfield Calif, oil field owned by a company called San Joaquin Facilities Management, Inc.

He said that as the United States is progressing toward alternative sources of energy, the country needs to “continue oil production at a high level, including offshore drilling.”

"So offshore drilling is something we have to do," McCain said. "I'm sorry that Senator Obama opposes it. . . "

And he attacked Obama in a way he's been doing for weeks.

"So Senator Obama opposes offshore drilling, he opposes reprocessing of nuclear fuel, he opposes storage of spent nuclear fuel, so he is the Dr. No of America’s energy future," McCain said.

That no drilling stance will kill the democrats.

During the whole primaries the media was constantly showing the polls of Hillary's and Obama's negativity ratings, how come they haven't done this for McCain. All this man does is whine and complain every single day, it's sickening. I am really curious as to what his ratings are...they should be through the roof.

Steve you really have no idea how polling works do you.

I'm thinking McCain should shut up about virtually every single issue in this race - save for energy and offshore drilling. It's where he gets a foothold on the economy and can paint Obama as out of touch.

Off-shore drilling wouldn't change the alleged oil and gas shortages in the short term, but that's what McCain is touting. The price of gas at the pump has dropped an average of $.11 in the past week nation wide. Why? Because Americans are planning their commutes and trips to maximize their fuel $$. Meanwhile, McCain hasn't said anything about Big Oil's Big Profits and "spreading the wealth." Of course not. Big Oil is one of McCain's biggest supporters.

It's so great when people talk b.s. about nuclear energy and drilling for oil. Has anyone even bothered to check how far ahead technology has come in either one of those fields? A little more reading that doesn't just involve quips from Newsweek or Time would do people a lot of good.

Obama is for windmills. How appropriate -- power from hot air!

McCain continues to run around crying about the surge this and the surge that. I mean who gives a darn anyway about these semantics from failed war that should have never been started??

The American people want this stupid Bush/McBush war finished and thereby stopping the cash hemorrhage down this rat hole Bush and McBush have created, that's all...

Last week we saw McCain screaming ME TOO, ME TOO! On Obama's 16 month timetable position, and whining about press coverage and other made up stuff like this troop visit in Germany (because they have nothing else to talk about)!

So now this week Obama is getting down to business on what really matters to Americans, the ECONOMY STUPID!

Let's all just watch as Obama again sets the pace and how McBush comes running from behind screaming ME TOO, ME TOO, on this one as well...

And now he is Dr. NO because he won't go along with the phony Hillary/McCain gas tax pander???

How pathetic is this old fool McCain anyway???

Obama '08!!!!

I thought Dr. No was that Ron Paul dude. If Obama is Dr. No on energy then McCain is Mr. No when it comes to making peace and respecting those countries and peoples that may have a different way of doing things.

I remember an interview that Tim Russert has with Obama, asking him what is his solution to the energy crisis. Obama responded that he will invested heavily into turning food, like corn, wheat, rice and sugar canes, into energy resource. Then in Russert's fashion, he asked Obama that the world's food supply is in short supply and food costs are rising, why would he want to use food for energy when we don't even have enough to eat? Then in typical Obama's fashion, he replied that's why we will have to invest heavily in food too.

This Obama is nothing more than a typical politician, I tell you all.

John McCain had the chance to grab his moment.
Instead of canceling his trip , he could have gone to Louisiana because of the Hurricane and the oil spill.
But in typical Republican fashion, once he heard there would be likely problems he ran the other way and campaigned in a nice, safe, sausage factory instead.

is McCain who you want in office if you have severe whether problems, (he ate cake with Bush during Katrina), fires or floods?

I have some problems with the idea of nuclear power. First of all, as with offshore drilling, it will take years to build and secure the sites, so it will be even longer before we see any significant results. Two, where do we put the radioactive waste? Nobody wants a nuclear waste dump in their backyard, and I can't say as I blame them. Third, my big fear is that more nuclear power plants will mean more targets for people who have a grudge against the US. Considering that our borders have more leaks than an old water main, such a scenario is within the realm of possibility. The real solution is to break the power that Big Oil has on our government so we can aggressively pursue wind, solar, thermal and hydroelectric power.

You've identified the problem. Obama doesn't know what he's for much less the consequences of his policy. He'd be a complete disaster because he's totally uninformed. Always double-talk and never anything of substance. A real empty suit to be sure!

Posted by: Aston | Jul 28, 2008 7:45:01 PM

This is number one important issue, but Obama has no clue what is going on. He first was against nuclear energy, then, maybe, and then for it after someone else proposed to build 45 nuclear plants in the next 20 years. Still he proposes to build zero, yup, 0, nada in the next 20 years. How are you going to sustain a standard of living without a plan for energy supply?

This phony just keeps making boneheaded mistakes. He should have some self-examination and leave it to someone in his party who will make a sure win in November.

For those of you not alive yet, let me remind you of the Santa Barbara oil spill of 1969.

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-santa_barbara1969_oilspill-pg,0,7401384.photogallery

Look at the whole gallery. This WILL happen again, just so we can drill more wells that will deliver oil to the international market 10 years from now.

(There is nothing in US law that keeps US oil in the USA.) It will likely end up in China or India.

For those of you who think he is an empty suit ,watch this empty suit sworn in as our next president.Hillory underestimated him and so does McCain.Keep doing more of that and you will be looking at a landslide in November.Once the public learns that Phil Gramm ,who authored McCain's economic policy , was responsible for the deregulation of the mortgage industry when on the Banking Committee and his wife Wendy was on the board of directors at Enron where Gramm created the Enron loophole that dergulated electronic platforms which caused Ken Lay to bilk 40 billon dollars from California McCain will be toast.

You typical Obama supporters have used this scare tactic in the primaries. Producing oil has spill threats, then, where do you think your gasoline come from. After you stop driving cars, taking buses, flying on airplanes, hand picking grass from your lawn, carrying your groceries by hands on foot without plastic bags, living under the stars since your house is covered with oil products, then, you may have a faint clue what the heck you and Obama are talking about.

Bet you will say, nuclear energy has nuclear wastes. Perhaps, Obama should realize that he is the waste, a waste of yet another democratic party nomination.

"USATODAY/GALLUP: MCCAIN UP 4 AMONG LIKELY VOTERS read it and weep wingnuts LMAO"

That has to hurt. They love him in Europe.

"For those of you who think he is an empty suit ,watch this empty suit sworn in as our next president."

McCain will take that empty suit to the cleaners.
