Obama Hits the Gym, With Multiple Repetitions

ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: While Obama spent 91 minutes at a campaign event yesterday, the Illinois Senator spent a total of 188 minutes in the gym yesterday – making three separate stops to Chicago gyms over the course of one day.

The presumptive nominee started his Tuesday with a short morning work out at the gym of his friend and longtime aide Mike Signator’s apartment building.

After flying to Indiana for a campaign event, and doing a round of local TV interviews, the Senator returned to his home in Illinois where he spent the afternoon hitting two more local area gyms for the duration of the day. Obama first visited Signator’s gym again, returning home briefly and then going to East Bank Club, a downtown gym which Obama regularly plays basketball.

Senator Obama has been known for his strict work out regimen – rarely missing a day in the gym even with a busy campaign schedule.  But for reporters following Senator Obama as he strolled in and out of gyms six times over the course of one day - his multiple visits raised a few eyebrows – with even a campaign aide cracking a smile as the third gym stop of the day was announced.

Obama left the East Bank Club at 9 pm last night. A mere 11 hours later he was back in the gym again on Thursday morning.

The campaign later explained the multiple gym visits and said that during his first morning workout the Senator received a phone call interrupting his workout, which prompted his second complete workout.

The nighttime gym visit? Obama apparently had a "sore hip" according to the campaign, and met with a therapist at the East Bank Club to have it checked out.

Strolling in and out of gyms six times in one day looks like a little too much. Maybe he should spend more time reviewing what he has said so he will not flip-flop again on important issues. His brain needs a tune-up as well as his muscles.

3 work-outs in one day? Yet he smokes?

This is news? This is what abcnews finds so important that they actually have to dedicate time to it? No wonder no one respects the liberal media anymore.

Ah, so the GYM is where he buys his crack! It all makes sense now!

I guess since the media wants to convince us that McCain is too old to walk (much less work out) we can all be fascinated by the active lifestyle Obama leads??
Couldn't agree more Steve.. nobody cares how much he goes to the gym. Let's get to the issues.

This is curious...but not news unless you're a tabloid. My guess is he's trying to stay off the smokes and is having to keep himself preoccupied with workouts to do it. That's just my guess...

I'm shocked you people have nothing better to do than to be E-jerks. Get back to work, be productive.

McCain is as capable to "work out" as GW is to "play golf". Both have as much insight into solving any of current U.S. "issues". Our wonderful nation is in the "shape" it is in right now because of the wonderful problem solving skills of Dubya.

Who said GW was my hero?

Nice strawman attack.

I simply don't want a two-bit charlatan like Obama running our country into socialism.

Whenever young-uns yell "change" it's all too often because they lack experience and an understanding of history.

If Obama is elected, you can be the first to welcome us all to 1984.

Or maybe he meant a Gestapo Frannie...Chicago is debating whether or not to call in the National Guard to fight crime...

"Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the object worship of the state. It will prescribe for every one where they are to work, what they are to work at, where they may go and what they may say. Socialism is an attack on the right to breathe freely. No socialist system can be established without a political police. They would have to fall back on some form of Gestapo, no doubt very humanely directed in the first instance." - Winston Churchill

And while this is certainly not newsworthy...I don't find anything wrong with working out...it's good for your body and mind!

Boy.

*This* is relevant. I'm so relieved that I know this and that ABC News spent their time making this story.

Because Bush vacationing more than any other sitting president instead of doing his job wasn't a big deal? And this is?

Couldn't agree more Dan.

I wonder if he ever spends anytime with his young children? Or is he an absentee father?

Posted by: Ben | Jul 17, 2008 11:10:14 AM

How can someone work out that much and still be that stringy? Must be one of those guys who sits on a bench or a machine and yacks to his buddies while blocking other people who are actually there to use the equipment. It makes sense when you think about it; all the guy has ever done anyway is talk...

Posted by: Travis | Jul 17, 2008 11:10:33 AM

A truly "RICH" statement from a neocon enthusiast who wouldn't know a two-bit charlatan unless he was able to roll over in bed.

Posted by: Frannie | Jul 17, 2008 11:10:38 AM

Why is this newsworthy unless you wear kneepads?

Does America know that Obama is a chain smoker?

Anyone remember when Al Goreleone collected his "oscar", he said he spent the morning at the gym and ate some granola?

Would that be 500lbs of granola or...?

Posted by: BW | Jul 17, 2008 11:11:26 AM

Spending more time working out than being with your own children, what does that say about a person?

Posted by: Dog | Jul 17, 2008 11:12:37 AM

Is this really news? And we wonder why America is on the decline.

Posted by: Who Cares? | Jul 17, 2008 11:13:53 AM

Sounds more and morew like Geo. Bush. Bush used to spend hours working out (or on vacation) when he first got into office. I think this is a diversion need away from too many pressing crisis.

Frannie, I love how you turn to personal attacks when the wells of your knowledge have run dry.

Didn't take long, did it?
