Obama Hits the Gym, With Multiple Repetitions

ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: While Obama spent 91 minutes at a campaign event yesterday, the Illinois Senator spent a total of 188 minutes in the gym yesterday – making three separate stops to Chicago gyms over the course of one day.

The presumptive nominee started his Tuesday with a short morning work out at the gym of his friend and longtime aide Mike Signator’s apartment building.

After flying to Indiana for a campaign event, and doing a round of local TV interviews, the Senator returned to his home in Illinois where he spent the afternoon hitting two more local area gyms for the duration of the day. Obama first visited Signator’s gym again, returning home briefly and then going to East Bank Club, a downtown gym which Obama regularly plays basketball.

Senator Obama has been known for his strict work out regimen – rarely missing a day in the gym even with a busy campaign schedule.  But for reporters following Senator Obama as he strolled in and out of gyms six times over the course of one day - his multiple visits raised a few eyebrows – with even a campaign aide cracking a smile as the third gym stop of the day was announced.

Obama left the East Bank Club at 9 pm last night. A mere 11 hours later he was back in the gym again on Thursday morning.

The campaign later explained the multiple gym visits and said that during his first morning workout the Senator received a phone call interrupting his workout, which prompted his second complete workout.

The nighttime gym visit? Obama apparently had a "sore hip" according to the campaign, and met with a therapist at the East Bank Club to have it checked out.

Perhaps he's making a point that he goes to the gym more times in one day than McCain goes in an entire year.

And all of you stop assuming that because I don't approve of Socialism (for good historical reason) that I am a neocon or a Bush follower. I'm a libertarian so that argument doesn't work with me...you have to try something else I guess.

His children are with their family when their father is working and they know "who" their daddy is. Why don't we ask yours?

Hey Steve, perhaps he's talking about a "civilian" security force as in our police force - which does need just as much resources, funding and ability to combat terror as the military. Who were the first responders on 911?? This is why you right-wing nuts are so incredulously stupid - you don't even realize the police are civilians.

I guess his work outs aren't cutting it, he is still skinny as an AIDS patient.

Speaking of bigoted, how do you explain 90% of African American voters backing the black guy? Apparently "Historical Candidate" = License to vote based on race = Koolaid drinking bigotry

Nothing here is "dry" here except your ability to engage in spirited dialogue. Most neocons whine when they can't take the heat. Ask Richard Perl.

I am not worried that a man with Superior intellectual skills also works on remaining fit as a fiddle. Give the ALPHA MALE a break and just back up. "Mens sana in corpore sano"----a healthy mind in a healthy body. That is the The two go together. Never forget that. When one is in peak mental and physical condition, the possibilities in life are endless.

In typical liberal fashion, the liberal comments here resort to attacking the other conservative comments and the current president. Notice how none of them actually defend Obama, or what he stands for. Me thinks that is because liberals don't know what they stand for, just what they stand against. C'mon libs at least have the brass to stick up for your man.... you do know why you like him right ?

Maybe instead of concentrating on his gym stops, reporters could take note of this crass attempt by a former Obama aide attempting to cash in on his Obama connection. Politico had it: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0708/11820.html

Seems a little excessive to me.... Oh!!! am I suppose to be impressed. Sorry.

I am not voting for Obama, but in all fairness, the media covered Bush's workout routines pretty heavily in 2000 as well.

Frannie - Trolling and repeatedly posting on an ABC news article means that you suck at life. Get over yourself.

Also, Anyone with a name like Irishspacemonk shouldn't be commenting on other's intelligence. You have to admit Oncrack Osama's comment on the civilian defense force was opaque. Does he seriously mean to spend 3.7% of our GDP on federal police?

Going to catch you off guard? Proposed changes in taxes after 2008 General election:

CAPITAL GAINS TAX
MCCAIN:
0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples) McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.
OBAMA:
28% on any profits from ALL home sales. How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain in Taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes.

DIVIDEND TAX
MCCAIN: 15% maximum tax (no change).
OBAMA: maximum 39.6%

If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned in taxes if Obama become president.

INCOME TAX
MCCAIN: (no changes)
Single making 30K - tax $4,500
Single making 50K - tax $12,500
Single making 75K - tax $18,750
Married couple making 60K- tax $9,000
Married couple making 75K - tax $18,750
Married couple making 125K - tax $31,250

OBAMA:
(reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts)
Single making 30K - tax $8,400
Single making 50K - tax $14,000
Single making 75K - tax $23,250
Married couple making 60K - tax $16,800
Married couple making 75K - tax $21,000
Married couple making 125K - tax $38,750

INHERITANCE TAX
MCCAIN: 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax).

OBAMA: Restore Estate and Inheritance taxes. Many families have lost the businesses, farms, ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved ones may now only lose them to these taxes.

NEW TAXES BEING PROPOSED BY OBAMA
* New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet.
* New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren't high enough already)
* New taxes on natural resource consumption (heating oil & gas, water, electricity).
* New taxes on retirement accounts

Again Dan...nice.

Stalin and Mao were also good at using aesthetics and feelings to gain a cultish following.

Obama is doing fine. People from 40 - 60 years need to do 10,000 steps everyday.

This helps to slow brain shrinkage and also to balance blood sugar in the stream. Too much blood sugar destroys some important organs in the body.

Keep it up Obama!

Duh, have I ever seen such drivel before? Think about his biggest decision of the campaign to date. Remember, the VP nominee? The reason the press is picking up on this is they suspect he is using the gym to meet with prospective nominees. Get a brain!

my main concern with the illinois senator is his inordinate amount of hours in a day at the gym vs real work in his duties as a u s senator, that is(playing his psp or ps3) while on the campaign/vacation? i hope he isn't playing too much hoop that it gets in the way of his grand theft auto mental exercises.

I hope he picks Heather, the aerobics instructor. She's way hot.

Why are people calling Obama a messiah? Is it because of the crowds?

Bush clouded the minds of his voters, causing them to make a mistke in voting for him. He then led them off a cliff. Obama is more ordinary, and his movement is more grassroots than religious.
