Obama Says McCain's Negative Shift Is a Sign of Problems

ABC News' Sunlen Miller reports: Sen. Barack Obama capitalized on Sen. John McCain's ad today, saying the Arizona Republican's perceived negative shift is a sign of problems in McCain's campaign.

"You haven’t heard a positive thing out of that campaign in a month," Obama said during a picnic in Unity, Mo. "All they do is try to run me down and you know this in your own life -- if somebody doesn’t have anything nice to say about anybody, that means they’ve got some problems of their own."

McCain released a new ad today comparing Obama, the Illinois Democrat, to celebrities Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

"The latest one they’ve got me in an ad with Paris Hilton," Obama said with a laugh. "I've never met the woman."

The Obama campaign quickly responded with an ad of its own, calling McCain's attack the "low road." At a town hall earlier today in Rolla, Mo., Obama said he hasn't seen an ad yet where McCain talks about his plan for the country.

The McCain campaign defended its ad.

"Pointing out your opponent’s worldwide celebrity is not the ‘low road,' and neither is pointing out that he opposes oil drilling and supports higher taxes," McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said in a statement.

At each of his three stops throughout Republican-dominated southwest Missouri today, Obama included criticisms of McCain, President Bush and the Republican party.

Now it's the other way around the table, McCain is the one that is going to do whatever it takes to claim the presidency. Watch out people, it's another conflict of interest. By the way, can anyone remember when McCain said he will run a moderate campaign? is he flipping or flopping? well may the next next TV ad he will be giving his supporters his version of the purple KOOL AID.

Jennifer who is making stuff up? Obama does have a radio ad calling McCain McSame, and can you remember the last time Obama said something positive about McCain? the last time I remember was last month when he won the dem nomination, McCain complemented him a couple weeks ago.

Sally, speaking of crooked bastards. Was Tony Rezko crooked????? Was Bill Ayers crooked??? Was Rev. Wright God-like????.
Most mature people believe that you are judged by the company you keep. If you lie down with dogs with fleas, you are gonna get fleas. Barrack Obama CANNOT say he did not have a long relationship with Rezko, Ayers and Rev. Wright.

How did We become so. Mistrust the authority are the words of the day. The President has brought us to this point and we must must stop.... please stop We are Americans

Mary,
I have kept company with many considered "unfavorable". I have helped many of them turn their life around. I am my own person, always have been. I see that in Barack.

You can buy a product to rid yourself of fleas. (duh)

The idea that no one keeps company with those they do not agree with is preposterous. You LEARN from subjecting yourself to ALL WALKS OF LIFE.

Otherwise, you sound like YOU.

I'll take my outlook anyday.

This election will show if the country is really color blind. There is no doubt who is the better candidate.

Once again, no one can criticize the chosen one. I recall Obama ran plenty of negative and disingenuous ads as well as disseminate disinformation through flyers and surrogates to steal the nomination from Hillary. Obama has a track record of smearing/challenging his rivals, then to turn around and play victim.

Well its too late, it may have worked during the primaries but we have seen through your bag of dirty tricks.

And now the gloves come off for both sides. About time that the Obama campaign responded with force to McCain's sloppy attacks.

But how will the race turning negative this early impact the candidates and voter perceptions? That is the new question.

McCain claims he has better judgement and he can win wars. Last time I checked he was a POW in a lost war. So can any McCain supportesrs tell me which war he has won? Also, wasn't it he who said that the Iraqis would greet American troops as liberators and that the American taxpayers would not have to spend a dime for the war because Iraqi oil money would pay for everything? And now we know it was all a lie!

McCain truly has the lamest campaign in recent memory. All the man talks about is the surge, the surge, the surge in Iraq. Also the calls to drill for oil everywhere is ludicrous. This will take years to develop at best
Wake up folks the oil addiction has to kicked.
McCain chastises Obama for not going to Europe and then it backfires on McCain as it is very successful.
I have not heard one iota of intelligence regarding lost jobs, new technologies for alternative energy, fiscal responsibility, or other important issues from McCain.
I thought McCain would be a good nominee but really the guy has no depth and is out of touch with current events.
McCain better ramp up some positive things about himself or it will be an ugly November at the pools.

The issues are so inportant. I work with several guys who think Obama took all his inaugurations on a Koran. They also believe when the local bar was selling t-shirts with Curious George 08' was a compliment and a freedom of speech issue.

The Republican way. It's not God, guns and gays anymore. It's ignorance, greed, and fear. They don't care about America. They care about the America they want to create and if that leaves good Americans out of it so be it. Problem is McCain is even worse at this type of politics than George W. Bush and will fail miserably. What happened to the old McCain who wasn't afraid to stand up for what he really believed? It's time for a pragmatic leader and Obama is that. He will probably end up being more centrist than Clinton ever was. He will always put country ahead of idealogical values. Don't be afraid of him America. Be afraid of a party that has doubled the national deficit and decided it is more important to invest in other countries while we invest less in ours. We could never do worse than what we've gone through for the last 8 years. Go Obama!

Oh, and just for s h i t s a n d g i g g l e s-

Has anyone actually heard or understood what the actual meaning of "WIN" in Iraq means?

WTF does it mean, I haven't heard an answer yet.

Posted by: Sally | Jul 30, 2008 10:35:58 PM

Obama should make an ad with two old has been actresses and a small room of voters yelling sex before country.

Posted by: joseph marcucilli | Jul 30, 2008 10:36:36 PM

Chuck, I can't agree with you more...the man should change his name to McSurge. Do you know that recently McCain said that some oil executives told him that it could take about two years to drill and produce oil? This is the most incredulous narrative I've heard from him.

Posted by: Phil | Jul 30, 2008 10:38:49 PM

Sally, I agree that we learn from people we do not always agree with but I don't know that we learn from being with criminals for long term. Maybe you can enlighten me what you have learned from your long association with known criminals.
I also congratulate you for helping others in need. Sometimes life has a way of knocking one off their feet through no fault of their own.

Joe-
print out copies of the actual man that swore in on the Koran. If they want to act so concerned about country, ask them where in the hell were they when he was swore in! WTF, it only matters when it is a presidential race? But freedom of speech with a monkey shirt is cool?

Holy shiznit- I wish i lived near you, I'd have a field day with those boys :)
