Obama Sees the Hip Doc

ABC News' Sunlen Miller and Jake Tapper report: Senator Barack Obama visited a Chicago doctor Sunday evening due to what the campaign says is a sore hip.

Senior Strategist Robert Gibbs confirms that Obama was prescribed an anti-inflammatory for what has been diagnosed as a strained hip muscle.

"His hip has been sore from basketball for a few weeks so he went to see Dr Michael Terry, a sports medicine doctor at the University of Chicago," said Gibbs.  "He had x-rays taken as a precaution that showed the discomfort was nothing serious. He has a strained hip muscle, a normal athletic injury for active person. The doctor prescribed an anti-inflammatory."

Senator Obama left the University of Chicago Medical Center, Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine at 9:48 pm last night.

Reporters shouted questions and he answered from afar.

"Just fine," he was heard saying. "Small X-rays, Everything is okay... It's all good. Just a little injury... basketball injury...But I think I'm going to be good in about a week."

Obama first hurt his hip about three or four weeks ago, playing basketball one weekend at a gym in Chicago with his personal assistant, Reggie Love, a former Duke Blue Devil varsity football and basketball player, and a few of Love's much younger, perhaps fitter friends.

The injury caused occasional soreness, but Obama -- who exercises about six times a week -- assumed it would get better. But the pain acted up when he was overseas, causing him some discomfort.

Last night Obama decided to make sure it was nothing more serious than a muscle strain -- and the doctor confirmed that's all it was.  "Likely from trying to guard people 20 years younger than he is playing basketball," Gibbs said.

Not only did Obama work out Sunday after speaking at the UNITY conference in D.C. and before attending a BBQ with his family, but the presumptive Democratic nominee also exercised Monday morning for 40 minutes prior to flying to Washington, D.C. from Chicago.

Obama's exercise regimen alternates between various cardiovascular exercises, weights, and basketball. He has told ABC’s Diane Sawyer that he needs to work out in order to keep weight on.

Those close to him say Obama, who doesn't drink coffee, needs to work out every morning to get his energy up.

Last Wednesday, Senator Obama also had his hip examined due to soreness, visiting the East Bank Club's doctor.

Is Giovanni and American? His lack of concern for a fellow human being is not what I call reasonable politics.

Giovanni whatever doesn't have to agree with Obama's position or politics, but as a human being to wish harm to another person is dangerous thinking.

The secret service should track the clown posting as "Giovanni" down and monitor his activities. Freedom of speech is one thing, but to post wishes of harm to a citizen of the USA is not acceptable in my opinion.

giovanni and molly are going to have to deal with the fact that a President Obama is going to be around for the next 8 years and have to live with it.

As for Obama, I hope his hip is okay and will be fine.
I will keep him and his family in my thoughts.

Pride goeth before the fall - less time preparing to show off overseas for the cameras and more time arranging to see the wounded troops would have been in order - people who are injured due to love of country, not due to self promotion. It would be a sad irony if he needed a hip replacement at his youthful age.

Okay starting here and now, I think those who supported senator clinton including myself need try and not be so nasty. I am not a fan of his but I am not wishing him harm. I am just hoping he picks the best cabinet(which should include clinton) to help him keep his promises. I also think the Obama supporters shoud stop beign nasty. What do you guys have to be upset about? he won the nomination and he is leading in the polls.

I love Barack Obama! The next President of the United States of America. Boy, that sounds good, doesn't it?

Yessss, We Can!

This kind of premature aging of Barack Obama is likely the result of heavy smoke and prior drug (cocaine and crack) addiction.
A man this young in this bad of shape is sad.

This phony candi keeps piling his boneheaded mistakes. next he is to break his own neck.

i am no fan of obama but i wish him well. hope it turns out to be just a sore hip.

Senator Obama should have gone to the doctor to have his head examined, not his hip. His gaffe about not seeing the wounded in Germany shows him to be too self-centered to be the prezzzz. He is a dud. And his excuses are phony, just like he is.

What a photo shoot for Obama? If the the president gig does not work out for him, he should go to Hollywood...great with scripts and following directions for him and European leaders to be on their marks so he could shine in all the photos. Still, why would any candidate spend that much money for the job of President of USA? Got to be something we "ordinary" americans do not know yet...but we shall!!!

The problem with health care today is that too many wealthy people, like Obama, seek treatment for injuries that are self-inflicted through their own stupidity, and we all end up paying for it to pay for it!

Please, I am tired of hearing about every move Obama makes. I still do not believ he can walk on water.

Well now he has ONE more thing to put on his resume!
How I became more hip than ever!
He may just need an enema!

It's not just an 'Old' person's problem. My brother who is very athletic, in his 20's had his hip checked by a doctor. It was nothing serious. Athletes put an enormous amount of stress on their joints, and sometimes they can get a little sore. No big deal.

McCain at 72 is almost as healthy as Obama at 47. I would imagine that from time to time, he would crave a cigarette, which, on top of his indecisiveness and inexperience, would distract him from making decisions critical to our country.
