Oh, Yeah...Give to Hillary

ABC News' John Berman and Sunlen Miller report: Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., asked supporters to give money to Hillary Clinton ... barely.  It was supposed to be a moment for Obama to soothe some of the tension that still exists between the two camps.  It was supposed to be a chance for Obama to solicit donations to help retire Clinton’s campaign debt, that could total $30 million.  It was supposed to be all that.  The only problem is, he almost forgot.

He delivered a 32-minute speech to the crowd of 1,000 people at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on Park Avenue in New York City, and began walking off the stage to Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, and Delivered.” After 32 minutes he had still not asked for money.  In the back of the ballroom, reporters rushed campaign aides, asking if there had been a change in plans.  Why no pitch for Hillary?

And then, it happened.  Obama seemed to realize he was about to fuel the feud-fire by his forgetfulness, and quickly rushed back on stage, saying, “Hold on a second guys, I was getting all carried away!”  And then, the pitch: “Sen. Clinton still has some debt. And I could have had some debt if I hadn’t won, so I know the drill. There are many supporters of mine here who have not yet given something to help her retire that debt.”

In fact, estimates are that the Obama camp has only raised about $100,000 to help Clinton so far.  So, Obama asked people to look under their chairs for an envelope, “pick it up and put something in it.”

He added, “it’s something that is very important to us, and obviously, Sen. Clinton would be grateful as well.”

Earlier in the speech, Obama noted it had been a long 16-month primary campaign, long enough for babies to be born, and learn to walk and talk.  But, he promised, now there will be unity.  “Sen. Clinton and I agree on 98.9 percent of the issues -– what I fight for, she fights for, what I believe in, she believes in.”

Of Clinton, he added, “she is smart, she is tough.  And she wore me out.”  Perhaps the fatigue was affecting his memory.

What's the point here, ABC? Just stirring the nest for fun?

He really could be in deep trouble. Does he backtrack so much because he just plain forgets?

Come on, you can't make me believe that it was a simple over-sight on Obama's part not to mention the reason for the big meeting in New York in front of his supporters. If he was this forgetful, he certainly does not deserve to be the nominee, does he? He is a dud.
This is one Hillary supporter voting for McCain, not the socialist Obama. Obama is not a uniter and never will be.

John Berman and Sunlen Miller ,,,,,,Lousy job reporting.........

You neglected to mention the envelopes that obama's supporters found under their seats had a donation flyer inside with a 'Hillary for President' Logo.
Out of everything in your article you missed (ignored), the key item.

THAT FLYER THAT HILLARY HAD HER STAFF PUT OUT WAS EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL AND TACKY.

Is she still hoping that 'something' will happen to him?

No wonder Hillary money bundlers aren't eager to donate to Obama. I am sure abc is making this more dramatic than it is, but geez Obama he really is beleiving his own hype. He feels he dosen't need Hillary or her supporters He politically slaps her in the face every chance he gets hiring some she fired and now this. Hillary do what bill has done say you support him and then let him float on his own.

Obama said he could have been on the losing end and that is true. There would have been a major difference though. Obama never spent more in any given month than what was donated to him.
He was and is very respectful and responsible with his campaign funds.
So part of him must be wondering how this woman thought she was capable of running a country, when she can't even manage her own finances.
And then wants the taxpayers to bail her out!

Maybe YOU had better leave, Jen. PUMA is here to stay. Meow!

****************************************** You silly girl, you dont' know what you are talking about.
Hillary's supporters are trying to bribe him, because they are upset that he hasn't hired more of them for his campaign.

If McCain wasn't such a loser, this guy wouldn't have a chance. What a choice, the arrogant newbie or the angry old warmonger. One of these two IS going to be president, like it are not. Obama better be glad that the idea of McCain as president scares the crap out of me

"BUT PLEASE JUST SHUT UP AND GO AWAY!!!!!" Jen, we'd never give you the pleasure. Hugs and kisses, Jen.

This is one vote Mccain should not have missed. He claims to always put country first but again when it mattered most, he skipped the voting process and put our country behind. I want to thank those who voted as well as Ted Kennedy. He really comes from a GREAT family and came even with him recovering from Chemotherapy but Mccain felt it was not important and the irony of it all is that Mccain too is a cancer patient.

Why would anyone want to support this man.

this is the second time in as many days the phony claimed to have carried away. Really?

He deceives you, since you are less educated and easy for him to do so, it was not his plan to show case his daughters in the spot lights of hollywood, to benefit himself.

He is so forgetful to remember the purpose of his being there? You want another Altzheimer patient to head the w.h.?

Sure miss that Hillary Clinton. The political scene was musch more interesting, informative when she was around

How stupid are the DNC and the media for foisting Obama on us? And how stupid are Republican voters for choosing McCain? It is unbelievable that a superior candidate like Hillary is SOL while we have two more candidates that are almost as bad as the criminal/moron who's sitting in the Oval Office now. Go to the movie theater and enjoy Wall-E folks, but keep in mind that it's a documentary -- we're headed for destruction.
