Rove Urges Abortion Foes into Battle

ABC's Lisa Chinn reports: Former presidential aide Karl Rove asked abortion opponents to "talk to the undecideds," in order to defeat Democrat Barack Obama -- echoing Abraham Lincoln's advice to the Whig Party in the election of 1844.

In a speech at the National Right to Life Committee's 36th Annual Convention, the political strategist who led President George Bush's two presidential campaigns, painted presumptive Democratic nominee Sen. Barack Obama as a  supporter of abortion rights who has "got a record on abortion that's pretty big in a short amount of time."

Rove enumerated a number of votes Obama made in both the U.S. Senate and in the Illinois State Senate, including votes on parental notification (no), stem cell research (yes), and the nominations of conservative Supreme Court Justices John Roberts and  Samuel  Alito (no and no).

Rove argued that Obama's attempts to reach out to the "values and pro-life leaders" was an attempt to distance himself from "a record way out in the fringe," but that "his actions over the years are far more important than any reassuring words he could offer in any private conversation.  He is pro-abortion and not pro-life."

Rove also told the audience that presumptive Republican nominee John McCain's wife Cindy brought their adopted  daughter Bridget, from the "arms of Mother Theresa...clad only in a swaddling diaper."

The National Right to Life Committee's Executive Director David O'Steen told the audience of about 200 people that voters who are opposed to abortion could play a critical role in this election. O'Steen said that his organizatin's polling indicates that McCain is  trailing behind Obama because  many "don't know his [Obama's]  position or think he's pro-life or he's moderate on abortion."  O'Steen claimed, "It's hard to be more pro-abortion than Hillary Clinton, but he's managed to do it,"

O'Steen went on to quote an interview that Obama gave to Relevant, a magazine for young Christians,  earlier this week.    Asked about his position on  the late term abortion procedure some call partial birth abortion, Obama said, "I have repeatedly said that I think it’s entirely appropriate for states to restrict or even prohibit late-term abortions as long as there is a strict, well-defined exeption for the health of the mother."   But O'Steen questioned the Democrat's sincerity in the position, calling it "duplicitous."

It was not the only section of the Relevant magazine interview with Obama that discussed abortion. In another section of the interview Obama made remarks that some see as a departure from traditional liberal positions on abortion rights law.

Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. Defends Partial-birth Abortion

In February 2004, U.S. Senate candidate Barack Obama's wife, Michelle, sent a fund-raising letter with the "alarming news" that "right-wing politicians" had passed a law stopping doctors from stabbing half-born babies in the neck with scissors, suctioning out their brains and crushing their skulls.
Michelle called partial-birth abortion "a legitimate medical procedure," and wouldn't supporters please pay $150 to attend a luncheon for her husband, who would fight against "cynical ploy[s]" to stop it?

As a nurse at an Illinois hospital in 1999, I discovered babies were being aborted alive and shelved to die in soiled utility rooms. I discovered infanticide.

Legislation was presented on the federal level and in various states called the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. It stated all live-born babies were guaranteed the same constitutional right to equal protection, whether or not they were wanted.

BAIPA sailed through the U.S. Senate by unanimous vote. Even Sens. Clinton, Kennedy and Kerry agreed a mother's right to "choose" stopped at her baby's delivery.

The bill also passed overwhelmingly in the House. NARAL went neutral on it. Abortion enthusiasts publicly agreed that fighting BAIPA would appear extreme. President Bush signed BAIPA into law in 2002.

But in Illinois, the state version of BAIPA repeatedly failed, thanks in large part to then-state Sen. Barack Obama. It only passed in 2005, after Obama left.

Karl Rove...Abortion Somehow
they seem to be one of a kind

Posted by: spacerook1 | Jul 4, 2008 11:44:59 PM

karl rove is the devil himself. This is the same lying sob who smeared John mcCain in 2000 with the poll in New Hampshire calling and asking perspective
voters if they would be more or less likely to vote for mccain if they knew he had fathered an illegitimate black child? He was of course referring to mccains 8 yr. old adopted child from Bangladesh. But thanks to his false innuendos bush took New Hampshire because of misinformed gullible voters. Leave it to lucifer to come to you in God's holy name.

Obama is in favor of partial birth abortion. This is sick! Obama continues to lie and talk out of both sides of his mouth. I thank God that America is waking up, Obama is being vetted, and he is losing support daily! We don't need Obama in the White House. Thank you, America! Keep up the good work and vote against Obama!

It's too bad Roves mother didn't abort him. We'd have over 4000 still alive soldiers.

And than we still have a few dummies that refuse to take the blinders off and see what is REALLY happening in America.

We will see come November.

Karl Rove represents the *screw you* philosophy.

Witness the administration's opposition to such fundamentally moral issues as stem cell research and health insurance, for God's sake, for all of America's children.

Barack Obama represents the "one America" philosophy. Read, actually read some of the words from his 2004 speech:

"The pundits, the pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I’ve got news for them, too. We worship an "awesome God" in the Blue States, and we don’t like federal agents poking around in our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and yes, we’ve got some gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and there are patriots who supported the war in Iraq. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America."

WHICH DO YOU PREFER, A UNITED STATES of AMERICA, OR THE DIVIDED STATES OF KARL ROVE?

Posted by: John's conscience | Jul 5, 2008 12:16:59 AM

Merri;;;;;

believe what you want, I really dont care. Fact is, and can be proven, Obama is a liar and has misled his supporters. His credibility is diminishing and soon he will just fade away. He's a loser and yes, I'm glad that he is screwing up. Many people have known he was a fake all along. There's just a few of you Kool Aid drinkers left. If you choose to follow this Pied Piper to destruction, thats your choice, or should I say, "change".
"Yes you can"

Karl Rove has no moral standing what-so-ever.

Posted by: Thinking | Jul 5, 2008 12:18:12 AM

Do you see the way that Will and Merri enter the same post twice?

They are obviously the same person. How many other people are you pretending to be, Will/Merri?

Being a liar and a Republican. There is no difference.

Posted by: John's conscience | Jul 5, 2008 12:24:37 AM

Rove was much more effective when you never heard his voice.
