Schwarzenegger Blasts Bush on Global Warming

ABC News' Mary Bruce Reports: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-Calif., spoke out against President Bush this morning attacking his administration for its failure to counter global warming emissions.

"This administration did not believe in global warming," Schwarzenegger told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview that will air Sunday on ABC's "This Week."

"They just didn't believe in it or they didn't believe that they should do anything about it, since China is not doing anything about it and since India is not willing to do the same thing, so why should we do the same thing?" Schwarzenegger said.

"We don't wait for other countries to do the same thing. That's what makes America number one... And I think we have a good opportunity to do the same thing, also, with fighting global warming," he said.

Schwarzenegger's comments came in reaction to the Environmental Protection Agency's recent decision not to take further action against global warming during the remainder of Bush's presidency. "Well, to be honest with you, if they would have done something this year, I would have thought it was bogus anyway," he said. When asked why, the California Governor said, "because you don't change global warming and you don't really have an effect by doing something six months before you leave office."

Schwarzenegger argued that any action taken by the administration at this point would not have been sincere.

"I think that the way they have done it is much better...This administration did not believe that [carbon dioxide] and greenhouse gases is a pollutant. They fought this in court and then finally the Supreme Court had to tell them, 'Yes, it is a pollutant,'" he said.

He also highlighted the strides taken by California to counter global warming.

"I'm very happy that California is in the forefront," he said. "We are very aggressive. We have made a commitment to roll back our greenhouse gas emissions to the 1990 level ... We didn't wait for Washington.  I just felt that the administration and the federal government have been terrific partners in a lot of things for us and we have worked together very well, but environmental issues was not one of them."

Schwarzenegger has no qualifications and no business being governor of California. The fact that this moron was elected twice is a testimony to stupidity. He tries to sound progressive, but he's cut the public school budget by 10% across the board, while he swears allegiance to his Plutocrat friends and refuses to allow the astronomically rich billionaires in California to be taxed at anything near a progressive level. He is trash.

The Earth is 70% water. A majority of the weather stations that record temperature readings are in cities, otherwise known as "concrete jungles." Ever see a close up of the heat rising off of astroturf? Same effect with concrete and asphault. Naturally the temperature readings are gonna be a couple of degrees higher than in the outskirts where there is more open land with grass and soil to absorb the heat instead of reflect it back up. So if we can't get a good reading of temperature over the oceans (which are 70% of the Earth) and are a source of that dangerous "greenhouse gas" known as "deadly" water vapor. And still don't know the effect of clouds which absorb heat, on the level of temperature rise, I'd venture to say that there is ALOT we still don't know about what's causing "warming", or even if this level of warming is unnatural. The readings we had from the mideval warm period were far higher than what we are facing today. (remember he Vikings in Greenland, Newfoundland? They aren't there anymore, hmmn wonder why? Cause it wasn't human caused global warming that did it! Just how did the Vikings cause the Ice Age? Anyone...anyone?) So to say that it is definite that humans are causing a two percent rise in warming when the satelite data over the last fifty years doesn't even match the computer projections over that same period of time, I think shows that there is far more we still don't know, than we think we do. And to form policy off incomplete data is to say the least highly irresponsible. Question: How did we go from fearing the next "Ice Age" in the 60's, to apocalyptic Global Warming just in the last 30 years??? It just doesn't make sense.

Arnold drives a Hummer and shuffles around in a private jet everywhere...Bush and Arnold are both stupid...but Bush is just unfit to be president...they were both elected 2x which just amazes me...oh, wait, that's right, Bush cheated to get elected 2x...!

The democrats don't listen when it comes to this "faux" global warming. I'm calling Arnold a democrat, cause that's what he is. It's all so stupid and boring........

Arnold, roll those figures back to what you think are 1840 levels, of the jobs that don't run to China maybe some will filter out to Michigan and other places that need the jobs.

oh global warming is real. and ther eare very few stick there head in the bank vault republicans that can see it arnold and chuck hagel the rest of the republican party are evil rich basterds

I just got done razzing a co worker over this global warming BullS(*T. As Elaine said once in a Jerry Seinfeld episode, "What the hell is wrong with you people?!!!"
The wildfires in the past 2 weeks in dumb Arnold's state did more pollution damage than the whole country did in the past 10 years. MOTHER NATURE is responsible for any warming of the planet, and us lil' teenie humans cause very little that could change the climate on this planet.
When will people stop listening to people who have NO useful job skills at all tell the rest of us with brains and common sense that we're causing global warming. We need to put these A'holes out of a job.
One last thing...trees love CO2, and the last thing we need to do is cut off the planets plant food supply!!!

Arnold is one of the few Republicans I respect. He has the guts to face reality. Mr Bush does not, never has, and never will.

Why are the other planets heating up and Saturn losing its rings? Nothing to do with carbon emissions. This is all political BS.

I read such idiocy here. People claiming to be "conservatives" but who don't demonstrate the intelligence of a well-informed garden hose. Stick your head in the sand and pretend that the earth is not warming. Go ahead.

My goodness the conspiracy theorists and mud slingers are riled up today. The idea of government-led solutions is the only reason these conservatives and libertarians are howling; they could care less about the environment. Ignore their aluminum foil hats Arnold and get on with helping our California, the World’s 8th largest economy.

we should round up all republicans and send them to iraq and let them fight the terrorist then we can fix america and make us safe and good to the environment and create jobs like we always do when democrats control things

to Pity: I don't know how or where you educated yourself on global warming and climate change, but you might want to look a little deeper!

Astronomers say that Jupiter is experiencing Global Warming: The "red spot" has increased and there are several smaller red spots around it. The red spots are hurricane type storms - which is an indication that Jupiter has warmed. They say that Mars is warmer too, at this time. They say it's because the sun has had an active season of solar flares, which is dying down now. Since we are obviously not responsible for global warming on Jupiter and Mars, then maybe it's not as bad as we think it is, here on earth. Maybe earth will cool off as the sun quiets down for awhile.

Is Schwarzenegger still a Republican?
I know he's resided in the most liberal state in the union too long, but..

He might go over the principle that says we don't go whining to Washinton DC for permission to act.
He's in one of the earth's biggest emitters. Maybe he could stop emitting sound bites and actually DO something???
Naaaah its too far fetched.

Scott, we don't NEED an informed consensus on this at this point.
In fact scientific community consensus is turning into a dangerous political tool.
Who cares if the Inter Secular Prophets of Climate Catastrophies are "correct"? :)
We need to err in the right either way.

Thank you Arnold

Incredible that we have 2000+ of the best scientists in the world all saying the same thing and people still won't listen. Just amazing.

And sad.

Posted by: disgusted | Jul 11, 2008 7:05:56 PM

Pity, What doesn't make sense is people like you can't see cause and effect relationships. But you know what really doesn't make sense? WHY people would "make up" the concept of global warming. That makes zero sense. You know what else doen't make sense? In the mid 80s the normal summertime temperature for Orange County, California was 72 degrees and there might have been 2 or 3 days of weather over 90 degrees. Now, a little more than 20 years later the normal temperature is around 80 or so and we experience a good 20 days plus of weather over 95 degrees. So, why don't you explain that. Also, why don't you explain how the Titanic deteriorated more in the past 20 years than in the 70 years before that? Hmm. Water pollution too? Not accrding to Bush.

Posted by: kim | Jul 11, 2008 7:10:11 PM

Dumb Don, how about reciting information on the positive things Arnold has done which is the reason California has kept him as Governor, other than 10% of negative, which more than likely is 10% against the illegals living there and DO NOT BELONG. Don't post stupid things on here, you make yourself look desperate, IDIOT.
