Schwarzenegger Blasts Bush on Global Warming

ABC News' Mary Bruce Reports: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-Calif., spoke out against President Bush this morning attacking his administration for its failure to counter global warming emissions.

"This administration did not believe in global warming," Schwarzenegger told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview that will air Sunday on ABC's "This Week."

"They just didn't believe in it or they didn't believe that they should do anything about it, since China is not doing anything about it and since India is not willing to do the same thing, so why should we do the same thing?" Schwarzenegger said.

"We don't wait for other countries to do the same thing. That's what makes America number one... And I think we have a good opportunity to do the same thing, also, with fighting global warming," he said.

Schwarzenegger's comments came in reaction to the Environmental Protection Agency's recent decision not to take further action against global warming during the remainder of Bush's presidency. "Well, to be honest with you, if they would have done something this year, I would have thought it was bogus anyway," he said. When asked why, the California Governor said, "because you don't change global warming and you don't really have an effect by doing something six months before you leave office."

Schwarzenegger argued that any action taken by the administration at this point would not have been sincere.

"I think that the way they have done it is much better...This administration did not believe that [carbon dioxide] and greenhouse gases is a pollutant. They fought this in court and then finally the Supreme Court had to tell them, 'Yes, it is a pollutant,'" he said.

He also highlighted the strides taken by California to counter global warming.

"I'm very happy that California is in the forefront," he said. "We are very aggressive. We have made a commitment to roll back our greenhouse gas emissions to the 1990 level ... We didn't wait for Washington.  I just felt that the administration and the federal government have been terrific partners in a lot of things for us and we have worked together very well, but environmental issues was not one of them."

Scott, I really hope you're not saying scientists have no useful skills and in fact you mean politicians. In which case, I could agree. However, regardless of whether or not the exponential increase in pollutants being emitted into the atmosphere by humans over the past hundred or so years is accelerating global warming is really irrelevant. We know that global warming is occuring. We also know that CO2 is at abnormally high levels and this is in large part due to humans. If you consistently put toxins into your body at abnormally high levels, what do you think that is going to do? It's safe to assume that there will be symptoms before you develop full blown disease. It's not any different with the environment. Just because you can't see the effects of those toxins today (or just don't want to see them) doesn't mean they aren't real. Maybe the increased levels of CO2 aren't contributing to global warming, but it just makes sense to find alternatives and to lower CO2 emissions since it's highly probable the increased CO2 in the atmosphere may be causing environmental damage and possibly human disease that we may not even yet know about.

those geniuses who support dubya and his "no global warming" stance are the same ones who believe him to be a great commander in chief despite the thousands upon thousands of body bags.....they ignore the horrific evidence because their pride matters more than the future of our children

California is a failed State and should be written off by the rest of the country.

After reading the prior comments knocking the one and only Republican that actually looks and talks sense about the horrible condition of the golden state he was honored! to be appointed to: all I can still say is that it took a big Man to confront the nay-sayers and run that home state of mine the way I still appreciate, and I don't mind if I do say so to all of you who aren't Californian for life.
It's amazing when a fellow human does that: so I recommend you reach real deep and come with something similar.

If Arnie wants help with the wildfires from Bush and the Feds, now is not a good time to blast him. I am from California and I fear he'll mess up Federal help if he crosses Bush right now. Mighta shoulda waited until after the help came and then blast away!!

Liberal Leftist Revolutionary Activists try to scare everyone to death so they can "help" the rest of us. America rejected Gore and Kerry, and will do the same with da Obmamma Empty Suit.

When Arnold makes his first intelligent and coherent statement, that will be news!

Do you drive a hybrid, recycle, use absolutely no electricity? Do you live without refrigeration, walk to work, use just solar energy? Do you use only biodegradeable detergent, do you eat meat under absolutely no circumstances? You better not fly or use public transporation either. Plastic, ooh BIG nono. Lose that furniture and that computer your typing on as well. Better stick to cloth diapers and cloth garbage bags for what you can't recycle. Got any "waste"... compost it. Grow your food in it. (Without causing salmonella, Good LUCK!) These are just a few steps YOU can take to "solve global warming..." So what do ya say, are you ready to surrender your lifestyle, today, right NOW!?! No, ahh well nevermind, just go back to telling the rest of us how to live our lives and emmitting that terrible carbon gas every time you open your mouth. After all, it's not YOU that ever has to sacrifice, it's always somebody else. Shame them, ridicule them do anything to hold them accountable for their selfish acts. After all if THEY do there part, then YOU won't have to. And there we find the root of all of this hysteria. People scapegoating the unpopular for the sins of themselves. Some things NEVER change. But hey, at least Al Gore can make another buck or two at our expense. Now there's a cause worth fighting for!

riverman----you will be so diappointed when obama is pres because he will be because america knows it can not afford more bad republican leadership

Posted by: tom | Jul 11, 2008 7:36:22 PM

pity-------you have a problem with gore making money trying to cleanup the world but no problem with cheney making a fortune off haliburton and the war and bush making huge fortunes off of his big oil money.........wow talk about hippocracy.

Posted by: tom | Jul 11, 2008 7:37:52 PM

Bush and Cheney would never admit there's global warming. Then their oil and energy stocks might be compromised. Greed is what rule these too!

Global warming is not anthropogenic. It occurs due to a combination of cloud formation/dissipation and the sun's varying intensity and distance to the earth. Humans are as insignificant and as powerless as ants. We like to dance around and pretend the earth will end every time someone f@rts, but it is just an illusion. The average global temperature will continue to fluctuate as it has done throughout the earth's 4.5 billion year existence.

I have visited this blog for the first time and the only thing I can deduce from the comments is that we have no command of the English language nor of basic spelling. Forget warming...we apparently just need dictionaries. Long live Mr. Webster {grin}.

Global Warming is the biggest fraud ever perpetrated on the American public.

Speaking of frauds, Arnold the Austrian goofball is world class as well. But I'm glad he's the Governor of the State of Fruits and nuts, they richly deserve him.

S_Temper - Ignorance really is such an ugly color on you. Go back and change.

Posted by: Scott | Jul 11, 2008 7:53:20 PM

S_Temper is sure he's right, even though all major scientific groups say he's wrong. Remind you of the arrogance of any of our leaders?

Al Gore is the chief stockholder in Occiedential Petroleum, uh last I recall petroleum WAS oil. He also stands to benfit from the patents on the new carbon regulations, that he has been pushing for years. So yeah I think Gore is full of what they make compost out of, sure! The "hockey stick curve" he got from the IPCC report comes from knowingly false data. So false in fact that half of the names on the report don't even vouch for it's validity. So if half of the authors of the report disagree on it's central conclusion and accompaying data, then I have no choice but to find it and anyone who claims to vouch for it terribly mislead, if not patently dishonest. But then again I didn't write it, THEY did! How in the world can we base policy and introduce restrictions on the face of incomplete if not incorrect data?

Posted by: pity | Jul 11, 2008 7:59:44 PM

pity-------go check out zapata corp. on wikipedia and find out how crooked the bush family is and anybodt that supports them or the republican party

Funny thing is that although the US is not officially in a recession----------California is officially in a state recession. How long as Arnie been running California again? Hmmmmm?

Kim I can answer why they are making up the global warming nonsense-------------MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY.

It's a scam, lead by Gore (who has his company sell carbon credits which is basically building windmills and solar cells in China and India after charging Us and other companies because they produce Carbon and the UN...which is trying extort billions to a trillion $$$$$$$ "to research and combat Global Warming". It's all bs. There hasn't been any rise in temperature since 98 and just recently Nasa was finally forced to admit that the '30s were much hotter than now. The earths temperature has never constant, it flucuates. Vineland and Greenland (now cold and icy) were named during a time of warmer temperatures and hence their names. Other well documented studies show that the Earth has had many many warming periods---and guess what? Sometimes Carbon was less, sometimes more, and sometimes the same.

Oh and don't let me forget to mention Methane the primarey supposed warming gas which comes from cows, and mooses "farts" which contributes much more greenhouse gas than CO which only represents something like 19% of total green house gases.
