The John McCain Workout

ABC News' David Wright Reports: John McCain fielded an unusual campaign question tonight from a sports icon.

McCain was attending a cancer summit in Columbus, Ohio, sponsored by former Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong's foundation, LiveStrong.

Armstrong said that he was asked on Wednesday at the National Press Club with whom he would rather work out: Obama or McCain.

So Armstrong asked McCain: What do you do for exercise?

"I hike, I swim, I do light exercises," McCain said, noting that he recently hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim with his son.

"I mainly enjoy hiking," McCain said, "so you can enjoy the outdoors." But McCain also acknowledged that campaigning itself is good exercise -- shaking hands on the rope line, traveling on the campaign trail.

"And," he said, "you don't eat much cause you are usually talking while others are eating."

McCain even suggested to Armstrong: "You could probably run [for President]."

The crowd applauded. Armstrong laughed and -- at least partly -- demurred.

"Well, maybe we'd start with governor first," Armstrong said.

For the record, his answer to the National Press Club was apparently that he wouldn't work out with Obama or McCain. The reason? "Neither one could keep up."

Wait a minute! Stop the presses! Is Lance Armstrong actually thinking of running for governor of Texas? As a Texan, I wish they would have followed up on that one!

Wow, not bad for a man getting a government pension for being 100% disabled. I'm sure it makes a lot of Viet Nam veterans feel good who suffered injuries and don't get a pension. But then again, only McCain had an Admiral for a father. The rest of the veterans unfortunately don't have that kind of hook or connection. Yeah, even my brother in law who spent 6 months in Japan from severe wounds in Viet Nam didn't qualify then nor when he he served in Iraq and got his leg shot up. Nope, only for the well connected. Damn shame how some of our real veterans are treated, while others live off the fat of the land.

I am sorry you are a clown davy it that some times you sound like you really belief that crap you say on the show.

McCain is the same kind of hero that John Kerry is.

Republicans can park that line of reasoning next to their Swift Boat.

McCain's candidacy is sunk.

It is amazing to read the kind of stuff that people put out and the way that people think. Take bigJohn for instance; Do you have any idea how much Obama works out? What the @#$%^&*( does chain smoking have to do with the price of gas or home foreclosures?

What the )(*&^%$# doesObama's middle name have to do with the price of milk or salmonella in tomatoes? Did he name himself?

I wish that Americans would stop and think about AMERICA first and its current standing in the rest of the world where it is hated and villified and will continue to be even more hated and villified if they were so stupid to elect John McCain as President. I live in the Middle East and I do not have enought fingers and toes to count the number of Americans that would not admit that they are Americans, for fear of people's reaction. So the quickest thing to come out of their mouths is "I'm South African" That is a fact. Americans abroad are ASHAMED of their country.
But Americans abroad are proud as hell of the possibility of a man called Barack Obama as the next president of the United States. you people at home who clamor for John mccain just have no idea of the implication, the fallout and the pain that it would cause around the world. Therefore I say, you have no pride in AMERICA. You are all just a bunch of critics and illiterate bigots.

What workout can John McCain do? Light exercises: Sure. He said he hiked the Grand Canyon rim to rim with his son; Ha! did he say how? Yea, yea, hicking assumes walking. With Mccain, it probably assumes being pushed. I still cannot understand why a 72 year old man, riddled with cancer, feeble to boot can't raise his hands, not to mention his serious bouts of lapsed concentration and memory loss, which can be a sign of premature alzheimer's, cause clearly, senility has already set in: Why would Americans want to send a semi-cripple as their Commander-in-Chief? What message are you sending around the world? What phone can Mccain reach out and answer at 3 a.ml when he cannot even stretch out his hand? I'm sorry, but Americans are just not thinking straight. I listen to a woman in ? the German haus; I think it was there, who said something about herself not being able to understand or trust Obama (those were not her exact words), but when I hear statements like that, it boggles my mind. If you are not interested in listening, If you just don't like a person, then your mind is CLOSED and nothing he/she does or says makes a difference. So if that woman would listen with an open mind (although I doubt she has the capacity) she miight discover who Obama really is.

McCain wants to increase the intensity of his workout after being elected President: he plans on hiking all 13 colonies.
