Ventura Rips Media on Senate Story

ABC News' Teddy Davis and Alexa Ainsworth Report: Appearing Thursday on MSNBC, former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura ripped the news media for reporting Wednesday that he was running for Senate.

Ventura called it "not true" adding that he is only "considering it."

"I'm considering it," said Ventura. "But why did they run across the nation saying that I was? Again, it's a case of creating news. I think we would be far better served if the news media waited for something to happen."

Talk of Ventura entering the Senate race was stirred on Wednesday when the former wrestler went on National Public Radio and discussed a possible rationale for a Senate race as if he had already jumped into the fray.

"That's the reason I run," said Ventura, referring to Sen. Norm Coleman's, R-Minn., support for the Iraq war. "I run because it angers me . . . All you Minnesotans take a good hard look at all three of us. And you decide: if you were in a dark alley which one of the three of us would you want with you?"

After some media outlets, including ABC News had reported his declaration of candidacy, Ventura later clarified his intentions to the Associated Press.

Ventura book publicist Jen Hobbs tells ABC News that Ventura will announce whether he is getting into the Senate race on Tuesday, Minnesota's deadline for filing to run for the U.S. Senate.

Regardless of whether Ventura ultimately gets into the Senate race, the speculation has helped him promote his new book, "Don't Start the Revolution Without Me." The book covers his stormy tenure as governor as well as his life since deciding not to seek a second term in 2002.

If Ventura enters the race against  Coleman, the Republican nominee, and former comedian Al Franken, the Democratic nominee, he would run as an Independent.

Read Ventura's book, especially the part about 9/11. Franken would never have the ###### to question the official myth.

Coleman was installed after Paul Wellstone's 2002 "accident", tipping the Senate to R majority.

With a few Senators like Jesse this country might be able to get up off its knees before the coup de grace.

Take that comment about who you would want to be in a dark alley with. This guy is STUPID. He should be running against the Undertaker, not for Senate.

We all wish we could have the "intestinal fortitude" that Ventura has - for once, there is someone in the public eye who can (and does) tell it like it is. Go get 'em Jesse.

I thought this idiot was gone for good? No such luck I guess. He's a pompus self worshipping idiot who failed MISERABLY at governing. All the tremoring he does from his steroid abuse doesn't help his dark alley chances, either.
Would be funny at least, because are there two bigger losers on this planet than Jesse Ventura and Al Franken?

I think Ventura running for the senate would be the most entertaining thing around. I think he was considering running for President, but doesn't want to get in the midst of it all now, not with Obama making history, etc. That being said, Ventura loves the spotlight and actually would make a more effective Senator than Governor probably when you think about it. He's independent and more outspoken on national issues, than a true administrator.

I would like to see jessie run. He's not afraid to open his mouth and follow what his heart to what's right. I'm from minn and would vote for him.

You can Google this fact, Ventura ran for Governor of Minn on a whim, when he won, he was shocked. His ego got in the way of him really doing for Minn that his buddy Swarzteneggar (not sure of the spelling) did for California. Considering how lame our Congress is now, I would enjoy seeing him elected. It would be fun to watch. Anything would be better then Franken.

Note to Ventura: If you are going to run for the Senate, alienating the media is not a good strategy.

Dark alley? I would prefer Wynona Ryder /grin.

He was a Navy SEAL before he was a pro-wrestler. I'm tired of all these "pro-military" Republican idiots insulting veterans who they disagree with. They'll applaud a politician in uniform like Patreus or someone who talks tough but never wore a uniform like Cheney, but when real soldiers and sailors get fired for telling the truth the "conservative" Republicans keep quiet.
When did conservatives start to look at stupidity, ignorance, and submission to authority as positive attributes?

Its the bully's only trick. Devoid of anything of substance, you are left to attack your opponent's character.

Jesse Ventura will receive some of my hard earned cash if he decides to run and I don't live in Minnesota.

The press has sunk so low especially at the networks nothing surprises me. Dan took his hatred of the president too far and received what he deserved. He still lives like a king so don’t worry about old Dan. We have new comers like Gregory, Olbermann and the ever favorite Katie the moron (the worst) they try to act so clever but they are not reporting the news they slanting the news and they most likely don’t know they are doing it, they are so self involved. Olbermann is the fool of all fools – he could Sean Penn – Tim Robbins – Alec Baldwin – there is no difference.

The news people have this feeling that great unwashed need to be guided for they are way too stupid to figure it out for ourselves.

That is why everyone will miss Tim Russert even though he was a liberal he was fair and kept the playing field level. Why do you think that had to get Brokaw out of retirement? The next Russert will this guy Russert found named Todd, very smart and not like the others.

Such a shame – where have the news people gone?

The real proplem, it seems, it Mr. Ventura's imprecise use of the English lanauge. Choosing the correct verb tense makes a real difference.

I want the Undertaker with me in a dark alley. Maybe he should run for a Senate seat.
