With No Questions for Bush, the President Grows Nostalgic
July 29, 2008 5:55 PM
ABC News' Jennifer Duck Reports: While speaking to an audience in Cleveland, Ohio, President Bush stepped out of his normal routine of quickly exiting the stage after his prepared remarks, by offering to take a few questions.
Problem? The audience at Lincoln Electric Company didn't seem to have any questions to ask the President of the United States, and the president wasn't very patient in pausing for questions.
"And now I'd like to answer some questions, if you have any. After seven-and-a-half years, if I can't figure out how to dodge them, I shouldn't…" Bush said trailing off as he very briefly scanned the crowd for a raised hand.
"If you don't have any questions, I can tell you a lot of interesting stories," Bush said as the friendly crowd laughed.
The chosen presidential story was a trip to Bucharest, Romania when a crowd of 200,000 gathered to see President Bush speak.
"I walk up to the podium, and a full rainbow appears," Bush explained. "I'm talking full-spectrum rainbow. And it was a startling moment. So I turned back to Laura, who was sitting behind me there, and I said, 'Look at that.' Of course 200,000 heads whip around to look at it too."
Bush added, "I looked at it as a sign, that freedom is beautiful, that freedom brings peace, that freedom is not ours alone, that freedom is universal, and that it's in the interest of the world and the interest of the United States of America to fight and try to alleviate the tyranny of disease."
Sounding a little nostalgic about his last months in office, Bush continued, "I saw that rainbow and I said, I'm the most fortunate man, to be the president of this fabulous country. And to the best of my ability, I'll protect us from harm. And the long way to do so is to help others realize the blessings of living under liberty. It's a huge honor to be here with you today. It's a huge honor to represent our country."
The first half of the president's remarks focused on energy and his support for offshore drilling.

This man needs to take a ride on a rainbow and disappear in the clouds. We are sick and tired of him.

"help others realize the blessings of living under liberty"
Bot, he blew that one.
Maybe the only rainbow was in his empty head. I always thought the guy was brain damaged.

I'm an Obama supporter, but i think Bush deserevs some credit for keeping us safe these last 7 years. I also think he has done some decent work helping Africa combat AIDS. I mean, he's a terrible President, but he's not the devil. I don't hate Bush. I hate Cheney.

This is now the very definition of a lame duck that no one cares about.

"You've been left on your own
Like a Rainbow in the Dark"
Ronnie James Dio
Is this W. guy for real? So detached it's amazing that we, the people, will allow him to finish his term. Legacy will have a new definition.

I am an Obama supporter too and I don't feel any safer knowing that Osama Bin Laden, is, after nearly 7 years, still on the loose. Bush dropped the ball by invading Iraq instead of staying focused on Afghanistan...and unlike you, I hate his guts!

Bush is a tool and doesn't even realize it. I don't doubt for a moment that he thought he was doing what was "right" for the country; the problem is that he is a moron with advisors bordering on sinister.

If Senator Obama is elected in November, by next fall, the majority of voters will realize they made a mistake and wish GW Bush was back in office.
I don't feel safe with so many illegal aliens hanging around, looking for something to steal or drugs to sell. My car was stolen then wrecked by one. Neither candidate or our government care for our safety. Please enforce our laws about immigration, Obama and
McCain now. Obama wants to keep them here and give them health insurance. LOL

Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerers of deaths construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds, oh lord yeah!
Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor
Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait till their judgement day comes, yeah!
Now in darkness, world stops turning
As the war machine keeps burning
No more war pigs of the power
Hand of God has sturck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan, laughing, spreads his wings
All right now!

Folks blame the President for lost of freedoms in this country. Wait until you find what the Climate Change folks start telling you what to do. I am thankful that we finally had a President that took the fight to the enemy, instead of sitting an doing nothing. Name the last President that has had more natural disasters, 9/ll, assumed a recession, an still managed to give us until 2006 a booming stock market. When you put aside your hatred, an look at his Presidency in total, my guess history will judge him a lot more kindly. I may be in the minority but what the heck, I will always be proud to call him my President.

Ed sounds nostalgic towards the Bush presidency. Don't be afraid of these so called terrorists. Be very afraid of our oppressive foreign policy that makes people give their lives in order to kill us. Be very afraid of monetary policy which drives us into hard recessions. I don't think history will be kind to this president. Our skyrocketing national debt speaks to this fact. I don't blame Bush per say, but rather all those politicians that facilitated the mess that we are now in and will be in for quite some time.

Funny this is this, Bush said it will take a long time to clean this mess...LOL, he's the one who made most of it, if not all of it, after he's gone, he will be considered one of the worst presidents ever!!!

I don't know which of the above comments is more delusional -- Ed's or Kevin's?
Posted by: Cardsgal | Jul 29, 2008 11:24:35 PM
Wow, I finally realized the problem. If some american's would take the time and think about a situation versus having a quick angry reaction, we might be able to compromise and come to a solution. Democratic Oath: What is best for me is best for the country...I think they forgot what the President they ever had said".....It's what you can do for your country...Oh yeah the whole speech next time please not what you can pull out to say negative about our President..Remember you nay sayers he is The President of the United States.Have some respect..You HATERS!

Bush did not inherit a recession - his policies have helped create it. Granted he was following Greenspan like a rat following the Pied Piper, but it's not hard to see that a bubble economy was doomed to pop again and again.
As for natural disasters; the crime is not that they occurred but rather the ineptness of how it was handled. After 9/11, it is and was not acceptable to be ill-prepared for the aftermath of a severe storm that was tracked and predicted for days before landfall. Yes, the local and state governments are to blame as well, but if there is one purpose for federal government it is these sorts of scenarios.
The Bush doctrine of preemptive war in Iraq is not "taking the fight to the enemy" and will go down as one of the worst foreign policy disasters in the history of the U.S. If you are going to take over a country, at least be prepared to run it after you take it over. The worldwide disdain for our government only fomets future attacks.
The Bush administration's ignorance of climate change, whether man-made or not, and the deliberate distortions of facts also belie living in a fantasy world. I'm no fan of the climate crazies either, but facts are facts and being ignorant of them is folly at best and more aptly stupidity or malice.
Bush's disdain for the Legislative Branch is also noteworthy. Signing statements, executive orders, appointments during Congressional recesses, and legislation by his Majestic decree have polarized the politicians into feeble stagnation.
I could continue, but I think the point has been made... I'm not saying he's a "bad" person, just a terrible Executive.

@wow: Bush, the person, has demeaned the Office. It is not the Office we hold in low regard, it is the person occupying it. Pointing out the flaws of the man in charge of our great country is not unpatriotic.
On the other hand, I would not be one to "boo" him at a public ceremony (like the Washington Nationals baseball game) as that, to me, demeans the Office.

MIguy, you have blown my mind with your intelligence, all I have seen is anger in here..but i do disagree.I would rather fight a war in another country than our sand .I would rather gain massive amounts of Intelligence on terrorists, who did start this war,not Bush and by the way Osama B is not thewar here it is the battle, the war is terrorism as a whole.I think that the climate has been changing for years..The ice age! I wonder how they took care of global warming?....So pres Clinton is better..Example#1 NAFTA -This single handidly is bringing down the steel industry..#2had osama in his sights but did not pull the trigger...and of course took the most respected job in america and made it look like a playground for his sexual desire..Our Presidents's will make mistakes but if they do not move to solutions they are not doing their jobs and the one thing that you can say about GW is that he moves in that direction more so than any President in my lifetime..
