Romney's Moves Watched Closely

ABC New's Matt Stuart reports: As reports about Sen. John McCain's vice presidential selection reach a fever pitch, likely short lister Gov. Mitt Romney is heading to San Diego.

Following a raucous rally in Henderson, Nev., on behalf of the Arizona senator and presumptive Republican nominee, during which there were multiple calls for Romney to get the VP nod, the former Massachusetts governor sped off in a white SUV, flanked by police cars.

Just a day earlier, Romney was in Denver, providing counter programming to the Democrats' convention just a few blocks away.

Arriving at the terminal in Nevada this evening, Romney told ABC News that he was headed to San Diego, where the wealthy former primary contender owns one of several homes.  When asked if he would stay at his new home in La Jolla, Romney said he couldn't because the floors were being redone.

Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom earlier said that Romney was headed to California for private meetings and had no public events scheduled.

UPDATE:

Romney was followed to the airport by a grey unmarked Chevy SUV with police lights. Two men wearing suits using ear pieces were in the driver and passenger seats.

They did not appear to follow Romney into the terminal.

Has Romney come under the protection of the Secret Service?

No.

"In Nevada, [Romney] had local police in plainclothes who were nice enough to take him to the airport," writes Fehrnstrom in an e-mail to ABC News.

More Obama Chicago mob ties

One of the speakers at the DNC on Monday night was Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, whose speaking slot raised a few eyebrows. Not only is he very young and in a low level state office, his family’s business, Chicago-based Broadway Bank, has ties to organized crime.
Just how bad is Giannoulias’s reputation?

Giannoulias is so tainted by reputed mob links that several top Illinois Dems, including the state’s speaker of the House and party chairman, refused to endorse him even after he won the Democratic nomination with Obama’s help.

Obama's criminal and radical associations reflect on his judgment and on how he might lead. Hillary and Bill are sell outs and cannot be believed when they say Obama is fit to be President. Obama is unfit to be a junior manager at a grocery store much less President of the US.

We need Smarts and Mitt Romney can deliver....he will eat the Democrats alive and I can't wait to see it.

More on Obama and unrepentant terrorist Ayers connection:

Ayers designed and founded the Annenberg Challenge and Obama was selected to be Chairman of the Board in 1995. Obama and Ayers served on the Woods Fund board together and Obama was a director of the board from 1999 to Dec. 11, 2002.

The Woods fund gave a $40,000 dollar grant to the Arab American Action Network, aka AAAN in 2001 and another $35,000 dollar in 2002. The group's co-founder Columbia University professor Rashid Khalidi is a strong and vocal crtic of Israel.

I've never seen so many ignorant racists reply to a single news story.

Obama appears to be a pathalogical liar and just wait for the country to figure out his religion, war avoidance in Africa and his flip-flop count. He will say anything. He was the opposite of Hillary on most issues they discussed.

david from texas,

Your just like your candidate McSenile. You can't win on or even talk about the issues. So all you have left just like McBush and the Repuke-licans are personal attacks!

How Pathetic you loser....

Is it possible that the Reeps will really nominate an automaton to back up McTheuselah with Melanoma? Is Romney the Manchurian Candidate? He is so unbelievably stupid and is a cult member to boot. Go for it guys!

If they pick a cult member like Romney you can kiss off Virginia and likely Ohio. Christian fundamentalists wont vote for a Mormon, especially women who know how backward the Mormon Church is regarding women's rights

Candidate A. Cheats on wife, marries rich party girl coke-head in order to get her Daddies' money to buy his way into Congress as a carpetbagger. Graduates 894 out of a class of 899 at the Naval Academy where he only got in because his father and grandfather were admirals.

Candidate B. Grows up without a father, has no money. Puts himself through school with scholarships and student loans. Graduates from Columbia and is the top student at Harvard Law School. Marries another Harvard Law Graduate, have two great kids and are obviouly devoted to each other and faithful. Self made man.

Why is this even a contest at all? Scum versus quality.

If its Romney millions of Christians all across the country will not vote for McCain.

Posted by: Southern Baptist | Aug 28, 2008 12:52:17 AM

McTheuselah has said the following:

Concerned about skirmishes on Iraq/Pakistan border (there isn't one)

Made comments about President Putin of Germany (huh?)

Has no idea about the difference between Shia and Sunni (but claims to be the expert about the middle east)

CAN'T REMEMBER HOW MANY HOMES HE AND HIS WIFE OWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How pathetic a loser you would need to be to support such a "terrific candidate". Unless of course, you're a KKK member.

Oh God help me 2 millionares I don't have a chance to survive as much as a snowball does in hell. Just what is this country coming to be. A haven for Millionares and we poor bastards have to live with it or die trying.

McCain - Romney 08 !!!

Unbeatable and the Dems know it!!!

Posted by: Shelby | Aug 28, 2008 12:58:26 AM

It's him, the next US Vice President and then President because Hillary Clinton is no longer the Nominee of Dem Party.
We the middle and working class have no other choice but voting for McCain/Romney ticket. And Mitt Romney could be US President for the next two years because McCain might not able to finish his first term because of age.

As a Las Vegas resident, I can offer one explanation, the police department here has a number of undercover cars. After 15 years in LA, I can assure you that the cops are much more creative here. I have seen foreign cars, trucks, SUV's pick-up trucks with campers, etc. As such, it is quite possible that it was simply local police who were escorting him to the airport. Of course with his money, it could also be paid security or even the LDS community security.

Southern Baptist:"If its Romney millions of Christians all across the country will not vote for McCain."
Do they have other choice?

Posted by: stock_craft | Aug 28, 2008 1:28:41 AM

Hard to believe that ABC was the only news organization to notice this. There is nothing else on this on the web right now.
I think Romney would be a great choice. Please don't let it be Lieberman.
