Bayh News? 'It's Not Mine to Report'
August 22, 2008 9:31 AM
ABC News' Matthew Jaffe reports: As veepstakes speculation reaches a fever pitch all around him, Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., a rumored short-lister to share the Democratic ticket with Barack Obama, has managed to maintain a remarkably low profile.
Even despite the around-the-clock presence of reporters outside his Washington, DC home, Bayh has stayed mum about the buzz that builds with each passing day and his every move, no matter how minor.
Asked Friday morning if he had any news to announce, Bayh replied, "It's not mine to report."
Then, perhaps aware of the news-less nature of the week, the senator, wearing a faded red polo shirt, khaki shorts, and maroon baseball cap, thanked the ever-growing media throng for their patience.
"You've been very patient," he said. "Thank you for being here all night."
As he and his twin 13-year old boys hopped into their Hoosier red Jeep Wrangler, Bayh cautioned, "Just taking the guys to camp," and drove away.
On Thursday evening, Bayh was also asked if he had any news to divulge, but "not tonight" came the reply. He and his wife, Susan, then went for "a quick drive", with the media once again left wanting.
Such has been the case all week as reporters have been expecting Obama to reveal his running mate selection at any time, but to no avail. It now appears that the number-two will formally be introduced by Obama at a Saturday morning event at the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Ill., where Obama launched his presidential campaign 18 months ago.
While the media stakes out his every move, Bayh has calmly been going about his business at his red-brick Spring Valley residence. With Congress on recess, Bayh has used the break to spend time with his sons, take care of Senate business at his Capitol Hill office, and work off some stress by playing sports almost every day. On Monday, the senator went jogging. On Wednesday, it was tennis. And it has become a daily occurrence for the 52-year old lawmaker to emerge from his house wearing sports gear.
Although it remains unclear if Bayh will emerge victorious in the battle to be Obama's running mate, he is clearly skilled at playing the waiting game. He has said almost nothing all week since his Sunday appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation".
Whether that changes in the next 24 hours remains to be seen...

McCain, a war hero who was held prisoner by the Vietnamese for over 5 years, has a lifetime of foreign policy experience, not including the over 5 years the war hero spent as a POW in Vietnam. John McCain, former POW and war hero, also happens to be a war hero who was held prisoner by the North Vietnamese for over 5 years.
McCain is a war hero, do you hear me????
McCain was a POW. He doesn’t like talking about it

Bayh is my favourite, and I think he would be the best tactical choice due to his popularity in his state (which leans slightly McCain right now), and he might be a consensus builder in neighboring Michigan and Ohio areas.
P.S. bud day: Being a Hero & POW does not mean he would be a good president, it means he was a good soldier. And he does use the POW card ALL the time.

POW POW POW..... How many cards are in this man's deck ? ONE... the POW card.

Have you heard the latest ? John McCain's campaign said that Obama forgot to count another house.... The house that McCain had while he was prisoner of WAR. A prisoner of war that all he has in his mind is WAR. All of this talk about houses is overshadowing the fact that McCain wants to reinstate the DRAFT. No news coverage there. Now we really know the truth. The media is giving the impression that they are Liberal, when in fact it's impossible to find anything negative about McCain. I've searched and searched and searched.
NOTHING

Yeah, I notice that McCain has been playing the "POW Card" a lot lately. It's like all of his sentences consist of a noun, verb, and POW.
OBAMA/BAYH 08! If you want to win it, this is the ticket!

I'm not sure how you think being a POW five years equals experience in foreign relations... the fact that he WAS a POW 1) does not make him a hero, as the lovely swift boat people tried to claim about Kerry.
No one knows anything about McCain because he doesn't stand for anything other than dirty right wing politics as usual and beating that POW drum over and over again. A man who doesnt know how many HOUSES he owns (7, by the way) is not in touch with the struggles of middle class america. the senile guy thinks the economy is STRONG. Isnt that reason enough not to vote for this guy?

I'd rather vote for a liberal than a socialist. McCain 08.

It is obvious the McCains own several investment properties and that business is likely to be left to his wife. Why would McCain even have to know this? At least he was honest unlike Obama's comments regarding his close friends Pastor Wright, Pfleger, Ayers, Rezko, etc.

Being a POW doesn't mean that you have foreign policy experience.
Foreign policy experience refers to diplomacy.
